For those of you who have followed me for years, it seems repetitive to say these things every time I post, however my circle of followers keeps growing so I need to help those who are new to blogs and such. Thank you for your patience!
So where are you going to start today with so many cards to show everyone?
Well, Sal, I had better start with my swap since I have two youtube videos to upload. I had trouble when I did an unscheduled Facebook Live. Facebook cancelled me when they decided I had gone long enough and I had to start a second Facebook Live.
The first video is the long one showing the coloring and cutting. The second shows the assembling.

- Tools: Small Brad, 1 3/4″ circle punch, Foam Adhesive Strips and Stampin’ Dimensionals, Masking Paper, Purple Tape, Cut and Emboss Machine, Stamparatus, Scissors, Tombow adhesive, Picker Upper Tool
- Stampin’ Blends:
- Lt Misty Moonlight (coat)
- Dk & Lt Pumpkin Pie(pumpkins)
- Lt Cinnamon Cider (gloves)
- Lt Cherry Cobbler (two sprigs, stocking stripes and scarf)
- Lt Mango Melody (stripe on sock)
- Lt Daffodil Delight (two outside branches & one stripe on sock)
- Lt Shaded Spruce (one sock stripe, four spruce branches)
- Lt Old Olive (two branches)
- Lt Soft Succulent (Pumpkin Leaves)
- Black Marker for drawing the arrows and adding detail between circle and the top layer
- Base: Cajun Craze, 8 1/2 X 5 1/2, scored at 4 1/4
- Layer: Beauty Of The Earth Designer Series Paper (DSP), 3 7/8 X 5 1/4, cut with large rectangular Give It A Whirl Die
- Top Layer: Basic White, 2 3/4 X 4 1/4, Cut with 4th smallest Stitched Rectangle Die
- Inside Layer: Basic White, 4 X 5 1/4, Cut with largest Stitched Rectangle Die
- Circle for the Spin: Basic White, 3 3/4 X 3 3/4
- Copy Paper: 5 1/2 X 5 1/2 for masking the die cut opening and a scrap to die cut a second circle for positioning foam strips
- Little Leaves: 2 1/2 X 3/4, punch three little leaves for embellishments (I used the retired pillow box dies)
- Circle Punch: Basic White, 2 X 2, punch with 1 3/4 circle punch
- Greeting: Pumpkin Pie, 3 1/2 X 1 1/2, stamp with greeting and pencil draw around the stamp to fussy cut
Tips:
- Mount the Delivering Cheer coat stamp on one stamparatus plate and mount the greenery stamp on the second stamparatus plate to stamp in line with the coat. Keep the greenery stamp in place. Once you have the pumpkins stamped on each opening, you will mask the pumpkins and stamp the greenery over the masked pumpkins.
- Cut the shape for the opening in the DSP and Basic White top layer (after stamping the coat), lining up the little circles
- Place a template of the large die cut circle on the back of the DSP to know where to put strips of foam adhesive so the circle will not touch the adhesive and get stuck
- The brad goes through the middle circle cut by the big circle die and then through the middle of the punched 1 3/4 circle (in which you created a little circle in the middle with the Take Your Pick tool or a hat pin). Place Stampin’ Dimensionals around the brad and mount to the base, temporarily holding the DSP in place to position the circle
- Summary of Layers:
- Base
- 1 3/4″ punched circle attached with Stampin’ Dimensionals after attaching to large circle with brad
- Large Circle attached to little punched circle with the brad
- DSP cut with the rectangular Give it a Whirl die with the opening cut, mounted with foam adhesive strips to base after mounting the whirly circle
- Stitched Rectangle stamped with coat and cut for opening, adhered with Tombow glue to the DSP
- Greeting attached with Stampin’ Dimensionals
. I think you may have gone over your word limit just like you went over your time limit on Facebook
It was really hard to explain in words and so much easier to show in the video. I make it sound complicated and I don’t want to scare people off when the Give It A Whirl dies lend themselves to so many fun cards and just making one shows you how easy it can be.
Let’s look at some of the other’s swaps:
Joy made a fabulous friendship card using Blackberry Beauty DSP, Be Dazzling DSP, and a Blackberry Bliss base. The circle is cut with the Encircled In Beauty dies and the leaves are cut with the Intricate Leaves dies. The stamps she used are Gorgeous Leaves and Quiet Meadow. I love how Joy used the background stamp with the little dots especially on the inside behind the little leaf.
. I have four fun Halloween swap cards; let’s take a look:
Jo made this fun monster card with the retired Stampin’ Up! Hallows Night Magic Stamp set (inside stamps), the retired Stampin’ Up! Boo To You, and the Peek A Hoot Dies from last year’s mini catalog. Love those googly eyes!!
. 
Heather used the Clever Cats stamp set, Frightful Tags Dies and the retired Spooky Bats Punch with nested circle dies for the card. The stars are from a Paper Pumpkin set, the blue layer is Island Indigo with miscellaneous scrapbook paper on top. I must show you the inside so you see how she stamped those bats around the greeting:
. Ann used the Frightfully Cute stamp set and the Textures and Frames stamp set with witches embossed with black embossing powder! She used Rectangle Stitched Dies, Black Glitter Paper, Cute Halloween DSP, Cute Stars Sequins and Old Olive Ribbon. The greeting is Zing! Leaf embossing powder and look at her bats on the inside flying toward you!
. Sharon’s card uses almost every one of the Frightful Tags Dies with a 3D sticker spider from her stash:

. Lori is getting a head start on Christmas cards with a card made with the Whimsical Trees Bundle in the mini catalog. The blue DSP is part of the Whimsy and Wonder Specialty DSP – special because it has lots of foil embellishing the paper. The dies have six different sizes of Christmas trees and then fun embellishments to die cut.
. Why are the pictures of your cards not focused?
Well, Sal, I am cutting corners by sizing the cards for the blog with the tools in Word Press. If I size them using Gimp they are focused a little better but I would be here much longer and I have a Mystery Card to show everyone!

. It is a full pleated front card! I used the Expressions In Ink DSP and Artistically Inked stamps and a Pretty Pumpkin stamp. Which do you like better the one with dots of gold foiling on the Pale Papaya or the gold bling?

I don’t know when I have had as much fun with a stamp set as I had with Stampin’ Up!’s ‘Merriest Moments’! Usually I search and search for just the right card to teach at club and then I combine different ideas from different cards to come up with what I like. This time was different; I found so many cards that I loved. If you are still on the fence about which stamp set to buy to make your Christmas cards, I recommend the Merriest Moments bundle. It has a stamp set, a set of dies and a hybrid embossing folder. You could make dozens of Christmas cards without a hint of boredom.

Let’s start with the Poinsettia Petals-

Recipe
- Stamps: Poinsettia Petals
- Tools: Poinsettia Dies, Ornate Layers Dies, Stitched Rectangle dies, Double Oval Punch, sponge daubers
- Ink: Shaded Spruce
- Base: Shaded Spruce, 5 1/2 X 8 1/2 scored at 4 1/4. Cut 1 1/2 inches from the score line to the front bottom edge on both the right and left sides. Cut 1″ off the middle flap front edge then score 2 1/4″ from the score line to the cut edge. Glue down the side flaps.
- Side Flaps: Expressions In Ink DSP, 4 1/8″ X 1 3/8″
- Ornate Layer: Shaded Spruce, 5 X 3 1/2, Use the 2nd largest Ornate Layer Die to cut. TIP: Place a dryer sheet folded in half under the cardstock before die cutting to hold all the little pieces. Also place a piece of copy paper 2 1/2 X 1 3/4 under the cardstock on top of the dryer sheet to prevent a film on the back of your die cut piece since it will be visible from back.
- Middle Greeting: Basic White, 2 3/4 X 4, Die cut with the fourth from smallest Stitched Rectangle die; I usually say stamp first then die cut but in this case it is better to see the actual corners for stamping
- Oval Greeting: Basic White, 1 1/2 X 3, stamp then punch with the double oval punch
- Stitched Rectangle, three leaves and leaves for tiny flower : Just Jade, 2 3/4 X 5 1/2; picture below; cut one large and two small leaves and one tiny flower to be the leaves behind the poinsettia. Sponge the edge with Shaded Spruce and they come alive!
- Poinsettias: Cherry Cobbler, 4 1/4 X 5 1/2, Die cut four smaller flowers, 4 tiny flowers and 2 circle tops; picture below. TIP: place double back adhesive tape under the cherry cobbler on the 2 circle tops so you can easily glue them to the gold centers; if you are really careful you can place the tape so it only covers 2/3 or so of the circle and then it is easy to pull off. Happened by serendipity for me. The poinsettias are layered with two same size flowers offset and then a tiny one on top with gold solid centers covered with the red center with holes. TIP: Roll the edges of the flowers toward the middle with a pencil and sponge the edges with Cherry Cobbler.
- Gold Sprigs and centers: Gold Foil, (X2) 1 1/2 X 2 1/2, Die cut one solid round center and one sprig. TIP: cut two separate foil pieces; running foil through the cut and emboss machine can show lines from the cutting pad. Cut one little ball off the sprig for the center of the tiny poinsettia
- Inside Greeting: Basic White, 2 X 2 3/4 (Or use the stitched rectangle in the Merriest Frames dies)

. The Just Jade rectangle is a duplicate. If you have a scrap you won’t need the length shown on the right. You need two of the gold foils and don’t forget to back the tiny Cherry Cobbler circles with double back adhesive tape.
The gold foil in the designer series paper and the gold sprigs make this card a wow!

. Don’t you just love those large greetings! Our cards today will use almost everyone of those stamps. So let’s start with the club card:

Merriest Moments Center Panel Easel Card
Recipe
- Stamps: Merriest Moments
- Tools: Merriest Frames Dies and Hybrid Embossing Folder, Stitched Rectangle dies,
- Ink: Shaded Spruce, Cherry Cobbler, Evening Evergreen, Versa Mark
- Base: Shaded Spruce, 5 1/2 X 8 1/2 scored at 4 1/4. Cut 1 1/2 inches from the score line to the front bottom edge on both the right and left sides. Cut 1″ off the middle flap front edge then score 2 1/4″ from the score line to the cut edge. Glue down the side flaps.
- Side Flaps: Expressions In Ink DSP, 4 1/8″ X 1 3/8″
- Gold Foil Layer: Gold Foil, 5 5/8 X 4 3/8; place the border die inside the embossing folder and you can cut and emboss the gold layer at the same time. Of course, in our instance we really just need to cut the layer using the border die from the gold foil but it is so cool to see how it looks embossed! Just playing….
- Detail Layer on the gold: Shaded Spruce, 5 1/2 X 4 1/4, Two steps – 1-cut with the detailed die, 2- place in embossing folder and emboss
- Front and Inside Greeting: Basic White (X2), 2 1/4 X 3; die cut with stitched rectangle in the Merriest Frames Dies
- Bottom Greeting and Easel: Just Jade, 2 3/4 X 1 1/2, Stamp ‘Joy’ with Versa Mark, apply gold embossing powder, heat
- Stamped Images: Basic White, 5 1/2 X 4 1/4; I set up the Stamparatus with all the geenery on one plate and all the flower and berry parts on a separate plate. Stamp the greenery in Evening Evergreen and the Flowers and Berries in Cherry Cobbler. With the stamparatus, I could stamp the Evening Evergreen more than once to get a darker color. Stamp one of each of the greeneries from the set, one large and one small flower, one flower middle and one set of berries.
I used a little extra spacing so we could be sure and die cut each stamped image.
Glue the layers, embellish with three of the In Color jewels and you have one more Christmas card ready to send.
Oh yes, Sal, just remember that many are duplicates of what is on pinterest and all I had to do was add my special touches with different embossing, different DSP and of course – an inside!

Inspired by StampWithTami.com using the detail cut out and a separate piece of Night of Navy for the greeting

. There is a separate full card front layer of Night of Navy that is embossed with the Wintry 3D boughs embossing folder. Don’t be afraid of this mini embossing folder. You can run it through twice to cover the front. I stamped the “Glory to the Newborn King” in versa mark, embossed with white, then fussy cut around the words.
Stamps: For Unto Us, Music From The Heart (retired – but I really wanted music notes)

Red Velvet meets Merriest Moments inspired by Margi Stamps:

The pictures don’t do justice to the simple beauty of this card. The outside is embossed on a separate layer of Basic White. Look at all the little snowflakes or stars around the embossed greenery. Love it! The greeting is stamped directly on the embossed front. Red Velvet Paper is on page 41 of the mini. I suggest stocking up.
I wanted to carry the idea of the frame to the middle so I cut a piece of basic white 3 1/4 X 2 1/2 expecting to trim off the edges but I loved the extra embossing around the frame and left it untrimmed.
The outside greeting is ‘Merriest Moments’ and inside is a greeting from the ‘Snowman Season’ stamp set with the Merry Christmas from ‘For Unto Us’. Together is the best place to build heartwarming memories!

Jenny Hayward at A Stamping Journey inspired this partial die cut:

I used the center ‘frame only’ idea and ‘Painted Christmas’ Designer Series Paper (DSP) with the detailed Merriest Moments die- cut first, then embossed and cut in half for a side partial die. There is an additional layer of Basic White added on the inside and a matching piece of DSP cut with the stitched rectangle in the set. I used the bough stamp in the Merriest Moments stamp set to do 2nd and 3rd generation stamping for the boughs. The inside greeting and the pinecone are in the ‘Perfectly Plaid’ stamp set. The boughs Wintry 3D embossing folder is used on the right edge.

Another partial die cut layered on the side inspired by Jenny Hayward at A Stamping Journey:

I used the ‘Snowflake Wishes’ stamp set for the outside greeting and inside snowflakes, The inside greeting is Merriest Moments and the side DSP is from the ‘Gingerbread and Peppermint’ DSP. The large snowflake comes from the set of 24 iridescent snowflakes called Wonderful Snowflakes. (see page 25 of the mini) One of the Stitched Rectangle Dies cut out the greeting perfectly!

Inspired by Lori Pinto at Lolly Pop Papers & Ink:

Similar to our easel card in its layering and yet exceptional in the use of Evening Evergreen for the background and Crumb Cake for a layer and the greeting. The greeting is a separate stitched rectangle cut and popped up on the detailed embossed layer.
A ‘Snowman Season’ greeting is used for the inside and Merry Christmas from ‘For Unto Us’. I wanted to bring the outside colors in so I cut Crumb Cake squares diagonally in half and layered them with a little larger diagonal cut square in Evening Evergreen.

Here is a different use of the dies by Stamp It Up With Jamie. She cut out the middle and popped up the embossed detail with stampin’ dimensionals (lots) on DSP. I didn’t have the DSP she used so I came up with this using ‘Painted Christmas’ DSP:

The greeting comes from the ‘Frosted Gingerbread’ stamp set. The pine cones are fussy cut from the DSP.

Jenny Hayward at A Stamping Journey used vellum so I had to give that a try.
. 
Isn’t it beautiful?! The inside greeting is from ‘Perfectly Plaid’ but everything else is ‘Merriest Moments’. The base is Fresh
Freesia as are the stamped flowers. The greenery is stamped in Soft Succulent and Evening Evergreen. I used three of the smallest In Color gems for the inside of the flower.
You know, it is a good thing they don’t limit you to the number of words you can use!

Pop Up Bouquet Birthday Card with Artistic Dies

I have a very special card to show you today using the Artistic Dies! Spoiler alert – if you have an October birthday, you will see your card!

Good question, Sal! And here are pictures of the card:

Recipe
- Base: Shimmer White, 8 1/2 X 11, scored at 4 1/4
- Layer: Shimmer White, 4 X 4, Embossed with the 3D Tasteful Textile folder
- Front Flower: Shimmer White, 4 1/4 X 4 1/4, Die Cut with large Artistic Die bouquet layered on a double back adhesive sheet to make things easier
- Rose- color with Lt Cherry Cobbler Stampin’ Blend
- Daisy- color with Lt Polished Pink Stampin’ Blend
- Circles- color with Lt Highland Heather Stampin’ Blend
- Sprigs- color with Lt Misty Moonlight Stampin’ Blend
- Lg Leaves- color with Dk Granny Apple Green, reversed from the video colors
- Sm Leaves- color with Lt Old Olive, reversed from the video picture
- Inside Leaves: Granny Apple Green, 5 1/2 X 4 1/4; die cut 2 long leaves placed on card stock with a dryer sheet under the card stock and die. Layer the card stock on a double back adhesive sheet for ease of adhering. Tip: after cutting out one of the leaf stems, turn it to the back side, place it on a shim of card stock and run it through the Cut and Emboss machine to give it a nice flat look since we are placing it on the card with the back side facing up.
- Greeting stamps and ink: Pansy Patch with Smoky Slate; stamp the outside greeting then emboss; stamp the inside greeting and then apply your flower
- Ribbon: 5″ to wrap the front, 4″ for the tied knot and (X2) 1 3/4 for inside
- Embellishments: Rhinestones and butterflies
- Pop Up Flower: Copy Paper (copy paper can be brayered to color) or Envelope Paper, (7) 2 3/4 X 2 3/4
- Fold Corner to Corner three times
- Holding point cut like an ice cream cone then use that cut as template to cut additional six flowers
- Unfold your flowers and fold each flower in half repeatedly to give crisp folds on all of the flower folds
- Stamp the middles of each with the largest ‘beard’ of the Pansy Patch stamp set; or sponge, or draw stamen
- Cut out one of the petals on each flower and then glue the two petals on either side of the cut out together- neighbor on neighbor
- Fold each flower in half
- Step 1 – place a bit of tombow glue on the two petals on either side of the middle petal of a folded flower and place another folded flower on the glue on each side
- Step 2 – place a bit of tombow glue on the middle three petals and place a folded flower on the glue
- Step 3 – repeat step 1
- Step 4 – repeat step 2
. It is so hard to explain even with pictures, Sal, which is why the video on this one is so important.
- Keeping the flower folded, place a dot of tombow on the middle petal of the seven petals and lay the flower on the inside right of the card by placing the flower with the open ‘V’ 1/8″ away from the middle fold. Hold to dry. Place another dot of glue on the middle petal that is now the top of the folded flower and then close the card front over the flower and hold to let the glue dry. When dry, open and gasp at the awesomeness!
- Add a leaf stem on each side of the bouquet and two lengths of ribbon to the bottom of each side of the inside
. Could you make a poinsettia bouquet for a Christmas card?
Maybe, Sal. I do have red envelope paper from Stampin’ Up! a couple years ago. We’ll see. It sure was a fun one to make!

September Swaps and Mystery Card #16-Origami Frame Card

It is almost over- September – and summer – and ….. boo hoo
. NO it is “Woo hoo” – that means fall is here, with its pumpkins and scarecrows and pumpkin spice lattes and …..
. And only 86 days until Christmas! Just sayin……

Mystery Card Challenge #16 printable pdf file
It is an Origami Frame Card (also called Shadow Box Technique, Folded Paper Frame, and Origami Window Frame)!
This is the one I created with the specific instructions. I used the wintry 3D embossing folder and since it is made for the mini machine, I just rotated the folder 180 degrees so there were no half embossed images and ran it a second time. I used the Baby Wipe Technique for the greeting from the Frosted Gingerbread stamp set by placing a baby wipe on our largest acrylic block and then drip dropping red and green ink from the reinkers on the baby wipe to create my own mixed color ink ‘pad’. The base is Cinnamon Cider and the DSP is Gingerbread & Peppermint DSP from the mini catalog.
- The 4X4 DSP is folded lightly in half and then opened up and folded lightly in half again to find the middle point, or use a pencil and a ruler to draw diagonal lines from each corner to corner to find the middle, then erase the pencil mark.
- Unfold and fold each corner with its point exactly in the center. Burnish well with your bone folder (1st folds)
- Fold back the corner points to about 1/8″ over the 1st folds and burnish well.
- Place at least two glue dots underneath the frame folds at the very edge of the 1st fold, you want the folds to pop a little at the second fold but be held in place at the first fold. Glue dots were less visible than when I used the mini dimensionals.
There are several different ways to place the frame on your card. In the card above, I used the 3X3 square offset from the frame to make added points to the frame but in this card I placed the 3X3 exactly under the frame for just a border:
I used an extra layer of Old Olive since I was using DSP from the Gingerbread & Peppermint DSP which was a bit busy.
- Old Olive Layer, 4 1/8 X 5 3/8
- DSP Layer, 4 X 5 1/4
- Basic White for stamping the greeting, 2 3/4 X 2 3/4 (I had fun with all the dies in the Gingerbread Dies!)
This next card uses the 3X3 for a border again instead of extra points since the back of the DSP that folds out is the same blue and got lost when I looked at having the extra points with blue on blue. This uses the Back On Your Feet stamp set.
Differences from the original:
- Beauty of The Earth DSP, 4 X 5 1/4
- Cinnamon Cider, 3 3/4 X 5, embossed with Painted Texture 3D embossing folder
- Basic White for stamping the greeting, 2 3/4 X 2 3/4
The Origami Frame would also fit on a card with a horizontal alignment.
Sharon used the 3X3 for extra points and made a stunning card with the Sale A Bration Peaceful Prints DSP, Cherry Cobbler and Basic Black:

Sharon’s card celebrates the beauty of fall with gorgeous die cut leaves on fall DSP and she used the Autumn Wheelbarrow Dies from last year’s holiday mini, Pierced Blooms Dies, Seasonal Layers Dies, and Autumn Wishes from Close To My Heart.
Jo’s Card uses Stampin’ Up! Reflected In Nature stamps on Thick Basic White with a full panel of brown embossed with the Wood Grain embossing folder. The shiny strip is Stampin’ Up! Rose Specialty Paper:
I wish you could see the sparkle on Joy’s card. She used the Triple Time Stamping Technique with the Stampin’ Up! Daisy Garden and Vine Design stamp sets with a border between her layers of Blackberry Beauty DSP. The little dragonfly is punched in black and then sparkled with the gold!
Ann’s card is a fun Halloween card using Pumpkin Pie and Basic Black. She sponged the edge of the Pumpkin Pie with black for a smoky look. She used Stampin’ Up!’s Frightfully Cute stamp set, the Scalloped Contour Dies, the Frightful Tag Dies, the Cute Halloween DSP, and Black Glitter Paper. The star sequins and black and white gingham ribbon are the perfect embellishment!
Your blog is like a virtual scrapbook of cards!
So true! And for you travelers and out of staters who missed the Mystery card, you can still make one and send me the picture and I can add it to the ‘virtual scrapbook’. I think it really helps everyone see the amazing things we can do with a bit of paper, stamps, tools and ink. An added benefit of our card scrapbook is to go back and see a card that we may have already mailed out but now want to make one like it. Well, here is your place to go to see those past cards. My cards are in the recipe box because they are linked to the full directions but you can always do a search by “swaps” and find the others.

Pinwheel Tower Cards

The little pumpkin sandwiched nicely in the dash of my car made little Emma in the back carseat giggle as we headed to Steamboat Springs. She helped with the construction!
Pinwheel Tower Card
These cards are the new rage on social media so I had an open house crafting day to gather together and make one. There were so many different versions online that I sent out three videos and the stampers picked the style of their choice and brought the kit components to the house. It was a fun morning!
This is how my work table looked to start:
The card cuts here are those used by Meg Loven though all the colors are different:
Recipe:
- Tower Base: Granny Apple Green, 4 1/4 X 4 1/4; Score at 1″, 2″, 3″ and 4″. This leaves a little 1/4″ tab on which you will put a piece of tear and tape, then lay it flat on your work surface and bring the opposite side over and press it down on the tab. This works so much better than trying to hold it in your hands and match the sides.
- Panels (X4): Granny Apple Green, 4 1/4 X 2 3/4
- Borders (X4): Basic Black, 4 X 2 1/2
- Borders (X4): Basic Black, 4 X 1 1/2
- Layers for stamping (X4): Basic White, 3 3/4 X 2 1/4
- Layers for pretty (X4): Pattern Party DSP, 3 3/4 X 1 1/4
That’s really all there is for pieces and now comes the fun part of decorating! I used the Counting Sheep Stamp Set and Sheep Dies, (each are free during Sale A Bration (ends September 30) with a $50 order). Emma’s birthday is this month and she turns 3, so the three sheep were perfect! I used the streamers and bow tie from the Birthday Chick Dies and stamps from the Hey Birthday Chick stamp set.
The sheep are all stamped directly on the Basic White, however, by outlining the image with a Light Smoky Slate Blend and then using the Color Lifter to soften the shadow you create a look of a whiter white. The candles are from a retired punch and the frosting is a piece of doily. The flames are made real with a drop of our Shimmery Crystal Effects.
Even if you don’t need the sheep, the sheep dies have this cool pennant, the sun, the balloon, clouds and the birthday hat. The grass, the greeting and the birthday hat come from the Counting Sheep stamp set. The streamers are in the Birthday Chick die set.
On this side I used a number 3 from the Playful Alphabet set, more Hey Chick streamers, a doily and a cute bow tie from the Birthday Chick Dies.
The Happy Birthday is another die in the Birthday Chick die set and the balloons are in the Sheep Dies. I cut the words once in basic black and once in the Pattern Party paper with horizontal stripes for a different look.

Ugh — I thought all the skeletons and halloween decorations were scary but this is worse.

Ann Hausmann made a Halloween card as well! I must say, the Black Glitter Paper just makes the card awesome as does the Designer Series Paper with bats and cute little ghosts. Of course without the dies to cut the glimmer paper into owls and spider webs, and a witch hat and a tree and a fence, well — yes, my pretty, we must have dies! (she says in a witch’s voice!)

Paper Piecing with Summer Shadows Dies

Paper Piecing with Summer Shadows Dies:
I had fun yesterday making this video to show you how to do Paper Piecing with the ‘Summer Shadows Dies’ . They coordinate with the Shaded Summer stamp set.
Your customers keep asking about that technique.
I know, Sal, and this is the perfect set of dies to help out with paper piecing. There is a set of background dies and a set of detailed dies in exactly the same size! We can cut the backgrounds using the double back adhesive sheets and then die cut two colors in the detail dies for the paper piecing.

An alternative using a different stamp in Shaded Summer:
That doesn’t look like the stamp in the set. It is not on two lines.
Shhh, Sal. I took my snips and cut the stamp apart so it would fit on the Tailor Made Tag.
Recipe:
This card was inspired by the diagonal strip that I saw on a card by Mary Deatheridge.
- Stamps: Shaded Summer
- Dies: Summer Shadows Dies, Tailor Made Tags Dies
- Markers: Cherry Cobbler, Flirty Flamingo, Granny Apple Green (DO NOT USE BLENDS-blends stain stamps)
- Base: Flirty Flamingo, 4 1/4 X 11, scored at 5 1/2
- Layer 1 (make 2-one for the inside): Cherry Cobbler, 4 X 5 1/4
- Layer 2: Designer Series Paper (DSP)- Painted Christmas, 3 7/8 X 5 1/8- NOTE: Do not mount until diagonal strip is on
- Layer 2-Inside: Basic White, 3 7/8 X 5 1/8
- Layer 3-Inside: DSP, 1 3/4 X 3 7/8 cut diagonally, Hint: if you make two cards, this is the remainder of two 3 7/8 X 5 1/8 pieces; Tip: Make sure when you cut your diagonal it runs the same way as the diagonal on the front. Yep – made that mistake.
- Diagonal Strip: Basic White, 2 X 5,
- Emboss with Tasteful Textile 3D embossing folder
- Border on Strip: Cherry Cobbler, 2 1/8 X 5 1/8
- Adhere the Basic White strip on this small Cherry Cobbler border
- Mount this bordered strip of Basic White on the DSP diagonally, the left side is about 2″ down from top, 3/4″ up from bottom
- Turn to the back and cut off the excess strip
- Now mount to the main Cherry Cobbler layer
- Tag: Basic White, 1 1/2 X 2 3/4, Stamp then die cut with smallest of the straight top Tailor Made Tags Die
- Flowers: the dies on the left are background dies, the dies on the right are detailed dies for the top and the two at the bottom are just cute dies I layered together without any paper piecing.

- Adhesive Sheet, 3 X 4, Die cut the two background flowers and the large leaves background from the sheet. Place the die on the side that is NOT shiny when you cut.
- Cherry Cobbler: 4 X 2 1/2, die cut two large flowers and the little flower with the detailed dies; adhere to the adhesive sheet background
- Flirty Flamingo: 4 X 2 1/2, die cut two large flowers and the little flower with the detailed die;
- NOTE: Layer a piece of dryer sheet underneath the cardstock of the large flower detail dies before cutting; after cutting use tweezers to pick each inside piece off the dryer sheet and place on the adhesive backgrounds
- Layer the little flowers, no paper piecing with these, with a bit of the Cherry Cobbler peeking out from the Flirty Flamingo little flower
- Leaves:
- Garden Green, 2 1/2 X 2, Die cut with the detailed triple leaf die and the little leaf die; place the triple leaves on the adhesive background cut from the adhesive sheet shown above
- Granny Apple Green, 2 1/2 X 2, Use a dryer sheet underneath your cardstock and die cut with the detailed triple leaf die and the little leaf die
- Layer the little leaves, no paper piecing with these, with a bit of the Garden Green peeking out for a layer to the Granny Apple Green little leaf
- Flower Stamens: (sounds more scientific than the ‘inside of the flowers’) Daffodil Delight, 3 X 2 1/2, place the cardstock on a dryer sheet before die cutting
- Inside Stamping:
- Mount your large flower stamp from Shaded Summer on the Stamparatus and color your stamp with MARKERS in Cherry Cobbler and Granny Apple Green, then stamp the top left edge of the inside
- Color in the flower image with Flirty Flamingo marker
- Embellishments: 9″ Cherry Cobbler Twine, 5 Rhinestones
What if I don’t have double back adhesive sheets?
Good question, Sal. In that case you would cut the background pieces from a Basic White sheet, apply glue to the background pieces and then adhere your pieces starting with the color you want on the outside.
Start your bouquet at the left edge by gluing down the little leaves, then glue the little flower directly down. Here’s another conundrum – dimensionals don’t stick to the adhesive backing so if you want to pop them up, as I did here, you need to cut some of the larger dimensionals in half and place them where the cardstock shows through and not remove the adhesive backing sheet. I positioned the two flowers where I wanted them without gluing them down so I could place the triple leaf correctly. The leaf adhesive backing can be removed for a nice flat mounting. When it was mounted, I then mounted the two flowers.

Now– let’s go on to today’s agenda of posting the Mystery card and the swaps from August. We meet on the second Tuesday of the month for club, or for some event I conjure up, and then we meet by Zoom on the fourth Tuesday of the month for a Mystery Card challenge and to share our swaps. September 14 we are having casual crafting at my house to make a Pinwheel Tower Card at 9:30. Prepare your own kit and we will work together to make the cards. The tower card is the new rage on social media and I think every video I have watched uses different measurements. Choose one of the videos you like and make a kit to bring on the 14th at 9:30. I will put on the coffee!
Mystery Card Challenge #15 printable file
Step 1: Adhere the large DSP (Designer Series Paper) section to the front of the card base.
Step 2: Adhere the 1″ scored section of the card base strip at the middle of the inside of the card base 1/8″ over from right
Step 3: Turn the strip of DSP over to its other side and adhere to the neutral 4” X 5 ¼” piece on the right side
Step 4: Adhere the neutral and its DSP on top of the strip glued on in step 2
Step 5: Add a greeting or an image on the strip that folds over the front and decorate
I used the ‘Gingerbread & Peppermint’ DSP from the Mini Catalog and fussy cut out the ornaments and peppermints. If I had purchased the bundle or the entire suite I would have had dies to cut out both. There are five 5! sizes of circles in this die set so imagine the possibilities! Do you know where that tag comes from? It is in the new ‘Pretty Pillow Box Dies’. The greetings are in the ‘Snowman Season Stamp Set’, a carryover in the Annual Catalog.
It isn’t even September and you have a Christmas card made! I am impressed!
It is a record, Sal! Maybe next year I will do a ‘Christmas in July’ like so many others like to do.
Sharon Fincham used the ‘Turtle Friends’ stamp set on retired Whale of A Time DSP. She hooked her flap under the ‘Story Label Punch’ to keep the card shut. Great idea, Sharon.
Heather Guitreau used the ‘In The Wild’ DSP and ‘Big Cats’ dies. She made a great closing flap and used a greeting from the ‘Wild Cats’ stamp set:
She made a second card thinking she needed to follow directions but we all know that the best creativity often happens outside the box!
Joy Meadow’s card uses the ‘Pansy Petals’ DSP with the greeting from the ‘Pansy Patch’ stamp set on a ‘Story Label’ punch.
. Ann Hausmann used the ‘Beautifully Penned’ DSP that is free with a $50 purchase during this round of Sale A Bration which goes through September 30. I love the pop of color on the black and white.
Jo Brooks’ card made me wish I had purchased the Playful Pets DSP from the last catalog. However, we have pets DSP in our new mini called ‘Sweet Stockings’ and it is now on my wish list!

August 2021 Swaps
Jo Brooks used the ‘Stitched Triangle’ dies and for the bouquet of flowers, the stamps in ‘Welcoming Window’. It is the great two step stamping that we love with a stamp for the greenery and another stamp for the flowers. Adding the lace was genius!

. Joy Meadows used the ‘Pattern Party’ DSP available to hostess’ and the ‘Dragonflies’ punch with lots of added sparkle on the black. Note how she used a flap on the front of the base instead of the standard base. Very cool and shows off both sides of the pretty DSP.

Ann Hausmann found the cutest little lip gloss containers that looked like popsicles at Target and made a fun popsicle card with Very Vanilla and Pool Party. The popsicle images are in the ‘Sweet Ice Cream’ stamp set, retired from the last mini, but Ann hand drew all the faces to match the lip gloss container. You are the cool one, Ann!!
Lori had fun with the ‘Nothing’s Better Than’ stamp set which carried over to the Annual Catalog. She formatted the front words on her computer, printed them on card stock then added the words and images which she cut with her Brother Scan and Cut. The coloring is awesome as she matched the coloring on the words to the colored images. So Creative!

My swap card was a clean and simple card. I wanted to show the swappers the beautiful ‘In Color Shimmer Vellum’ (the pink layer on the card) and the ‘Expressions In Ink’ DSP with its gold foil on the pink that looks like the alcohol ink on vellum technique we just learned. I used the ‘Tailored Tags’ dies with a cutout of gold for the reinforcement ring. The ribbon is the In Color 3/8″ Open Weave ribbon. To get the ribbon to lay on the tag the way I wanted, I used two pieces. I used glue dots to loop the bows on the right and left with nice little tails and then used a second piece and more glue dots to tie a middle around the bow. I secured the knot and the tails of this piece of ribbon on back of the tag. The good sized thanks is in the ‘Artistically Inked’ stamp set. Can you see the shimmer of the pink vellum?

- Layer: Polished Pink Shimmer Vellum, 5 1/2 X 4 1/4

Shaded Summer Partial Die Cut & Shadow Stamping

At our July Club we made a special card using the Shaded Summer stamp set and the Summer Shadows dies to do a Partial Die cut and Shadow stamping
Why didn’t you just run the ribbon under the top layer?
Ahh, Sal, I love to find new ways to do things so I have something new to teach my customers. I used a 3/8″ circle punch and punched a little hole on the right side between the images and then, with the card closed, and a pencil line marking a straight line from the right, I punched the left hand side.
Recipe for Shaded Summer Partial Die Cutting and Shadow Stamping
- Stamp Set: Shaded Summer in the Annual Catalog
- Tools:
- Summer Shadow Dies – Free during Sale A Bration with a $100 purchase
- 3/8″ Circle Punch, pencil, ruler, scissors
- Stamparatus
- Stampin’ Cut and Emboss Machine
- Inks: Evening Evergreen, Craft White
- Base: Just Jade, 5 1/2 X 8 1/2, scored at 4 1/4
- Top Layer: Experessions In Ink Designer Series Paper (DSP) 4 X 5 1/4
- Inside Layer 1: Mint Macaron, 4 X 5 1/4
- Inside Layer 2: Evening Evergreen, 3 3/4 X 5
- Ribbon: Soft Succulent 3/8″ Open Weave Ribbon, 12″
- Embellishments: 3 In Color Jewels
To do a Partial Die Cut on the front:
- Temporarily glue DSP Top Layer flush to the right hand side of front card base.
- Set up Stamparatus to stamp the two Shaded Summer flower images, small at top, larger at bottom, as close as possible to right hand edge. Add the greeting to the stamparatus plate so you can stamp it at the same time.
- Stamp the images with Evening Evergreen until images are dark. If DSP has the darker portion at right it may take three times to stamp the images.
- Pencil a line with a ruler, 1″ over from right hand side. You will line the cutting plates up on this penciled line.
- Make your standard sandwich on the cutting machine with the platform #1, and #2, and then the #3 cutting plate.
- Place your open card on the cutting plate with right side of card base going in head first and secure your dies on the images with sticky notes or tape.
- Place the top cutting plate with its edge on the 1″ penciled line. I found it easiest to go in with the plate from the back of the cutting machine. Hold securely as you start to cut. The plate pops out the back rather hard so don’t have your machine where something could get broken with a flying cutting plate.
- Die cut the images and then fussy cut the sides and middle.
- Take the DSP off base and move over to the left to leave a nice border on the images. Glue in place.
To do Shadow Stamping on inside:
- Use the Stamparatus as above with the two flower images in same place yet position your Evening Evergreen inside layer 1/4″ less than where you positioned your card base, I made lines on the grid sheet so I knew where to line up the base and where to line up the Evening Evergreen remembering that we have a Mint Macaron layer as well.
- Clean off the stamps and then ink them up with Craft White ink and stamp several times.
- Move the card just slightly to the right.
- Clean off the white ink and reink with Evening Evergreen .
- Stamp several times.
- Mount the inside greeting on a separate Stamparatus plate and repeat steps 2-5.
- When you attach your Evening Evergreen layer make sure it is positioned where the inside stamping doesn’t show.
You make it sound really easy!
It is, Sal, and the DSP does the rest of the work to make a beautiful card!

- Base: Just Jade, 4 1/4 X 11, scored at 5 1/2
- Layer 1 (X2): Misty Moonlight, 4 1/8 X 5 3/8
- Layer 2 (X2): Basic White, 4 X 5 1/4
- Cardstock Vellum: 4 1/4 X 6 (This gives you 3/4″ to trim off after creating your background and 1/4 for trimming edges)
- Double Back Adhesive Sheet: 41/4 X 6
- Front Greeting: Basic White, 2 1/2 X 3/4 (I used a ‘Many Messages’ greeting)
- Seahorse: Blue Ombre Specialty Paper, 4X2
- Note: you will need to fussy cut two tiny sections on the belly and two sections around the fin since this is a partial die
- Fish (X3): Blue Ombre Specialty Paper, 1 1/2 X 2
- Seahorse Backing: Be Dazzling SAB specialty paper, 4 X 2
- Note: Cover the back of your 4 X 2 Be Dazzling paper with scotch tape before die cutting
- Seaweed: Evening Evergreen Shimmer Vellum, 3 X 2 1/2
- Easel (X2): Misty Moonlight, 2 3/4 X 4, score at 2 3/8 and 1 5/8 and then cut with largest hippo die lining up the middle
- Stampin’ Blends Alcohol Markers: Lt Misty Moonlight, Lt Night of Navy, Dk Shaded Spruce, Dk Night of Navy
- Ink: Shaded Spruce
- Tools: Sea Life Dies, Messages Die, Hippo Die for Easel, Medium Tip Water Painter, Basic Black Journaler to dot the eyes
- 91% Alcohol
- Stamp Sets: Many Messages, Friends Are Like Seashells
- Embellishments: Three Basic Rhinestones
To make an alcohol ink on vellum background – Prepare your surface. I have a thin plastic quilting sheet I use.
- Place a piece of copy paper underneath your vellum to soak up the excess that hits the edges of the vellum
- Use a small container with a little alcohol in it for dipping your Water Painter
- Have a paper towel next to the container to clean the Water Painter often so you don’t mix colors
- Scribble on your vellum:
Place your copier paper under the vellum and dab alcohol one color at a time on the vellum. Be generous with the alcohol and dab starting with all the Light Misty Moonlight scribbles, then Light Night of Navy, Dark Shaded Spruce and ending by dabbing all the Dark Night of Navy scribbles. Use your breath or a straw to blow the alcohol so the colors blend. Blow any excess build up off the edges so you don’t get a solid line at the sides.
Add additional scribbles if you have areas that are ‘blah’ and repeat.
When you are pleased with the result make it a “wow” by dipping your clean brush in the alcohol and then flick the brush on your finger, staying about 6″ over the vellum. For small bubbles use just a little alcohol and stay a good distance over the vellum, for large bubbles use a little more alcohol in the brush and be closer to the vellum. Scroll back up to my card front and you will see I have pretty large bubbles and then as the alcohol in the brush ran out the bubbles are smaller.
Let the vellum dry or use the lightest setting on the heat gun to dry the vellum.
Attach the vellum to the double back adhesive sheet, trim to 4″ X 6″ and then cut 3/4″ off the bottom for an inside strip. You should have a 4″ X 5 1/4″ to mount on the Basic White by removing the other side of the double back adhesive. If you have trouble attaching it squarely to the Basic White just trim the edges after attaching as needed.
The rest of the construction is pretty basic. I used Tombow liquid glue to attach the seahorse blue top to the Be Dazzling paper. Before popping up the seahorse with dimensionals I attached the seaweed at the bottom in just a few places with Tombow glue and then wrapped the seahorse around the left branch I left unattached. The seahorse, fish and greeting are all popped up with dimensionals. Don’t forget to dot little black eyes on the seahorse and fish with the Basic Black Journaler. Since the fish are popped up, the eyes seem to follow you as you move the card – cute!
I guess they’ll just have to make one to see if it’s true.
Remember to add your three rhinestones for more bubbles!
Lastly I added my new type of Easel to the back of the card using the largest of the Hippo Dies. I cut two and glued them together for a little extra strength since the front was pretty heavy.

Today’s inspiration comes from the July swaps! Let’s look at the red, white and blue ones first! I love to decorate the house with cards for the season and now I have some to save forever and put on the end tables and shelves around July 4th. Do you decorate with cards?
Joy’s card feels like a 4th of July picnic with a plate of goodies on a red and white tablecloth amidst a garden of flowers! Love it! She used the ‘Encircled In Friendship’ stamp set and the ‘Encircled in Beauty’ dies with Basic White, Paper Blooms DSP, Berry Delightful DSP, Crinkled Seam Binding and Opal Rounds.
Jo’s card is another ‘save forever to decorate’ card. She used the ‘Ornamental Christmas’ framelits for the stars, the ‘All Around Wreath’ dies for a red and white layered wreath, the ‘Playful Alphabet’ dies for the lettering of July, and ‘Family Party’ for Happy 4th. Inside she used the ‘Celebrate You’ dies. She sponged with Pacific Point ink to get the shaded blue look on the base!
The inside of Sharon’s card was as decorated as the outside and both were beautiful! She used the’ American Celebration’ holiday stamps from Close To My Heart and a 4th of July block stamp for the inside. She used silver, white and aqua tinsel embossing powders with Carousel & silver sparkle embossing glitters. She has a silver star embellishment on the flag, a gold star brad on the fireworks, and blue and red stars from a roll of stickers for the inside. She used a Spots and Dots cuttlebug embossing folder and square dies from Hobby Lobby. Her cardstocks are Whisper White, Cherry Cobbler and blue.
Lori’s swap card would put a smile on anyone’s face! She made watermelons from the ‘Layering Circle dies’ and a ‘Tasteful Label Die’ for the sentiment. She also used ‘Create With Friends’ stamp set and a Close To My Heart ‘August Word Puzzle’ for sentiments. She used a small flower punch and the ‘Pattern Party’ hostess DSP with Whisper White, Polished Pink, Garden Green and Blushing Bride card stock.
Prepare to be wowed, awed and inspired by Ann’s fabulous diorama card! She used the ‘Mountain Air’ stamp set and ‘Majestic Mountain’ dies with a sentiment from Happy Trails by Simple Stories. Her cardstock is Old Olive, Crumb Cake, and Basic White with inks of Early Espresso, Shaded Spruce, Mossy Meadow, Balmy Blue, Pool Party and So Saffron.
My card is a ‘sort of’ case of one I saw Frenchie Martin post at Frenchie Stamps.com. I used her idea of the ‘Stitched Stars’ with the medium ‘Daisy Punch’ and ‘Daisy Punch’ to layer red, white and blue on top of the stars, but I cut the stars in half so they covered more of the card front and I added a different sentiment and ribbon. The dies cut out stars that I used on the top of a 1/2″ Basic White circle and on the inside red and white strips. Do you recognize that Stampin’ Up! red, white and blue ribbon? No? It is the 1/4″ ‘Quilted Ribbon’ in red and green and I used our ‘Dark Night of Navy Blends’ to color the green to make it blue! The sentiment is from the ‘Hey Birthday Chick’ stamp set stamped on a ‘Stitched So Sweetly Die’ with a sponged edge of real red.

Recipe for 4th of July Card:
- Base: Thick Basic White, 5 1/2 X 8 1/2 scored at 4 1/4
- Layer 1: Real Red, 5 1/4 X 4
- Layer 2: Basic White, 5 1/8 X 3 7/8
- Swirly Star: Night of Navy, 4 X 2, cut in half and adhere to red daisy then adhere to card front
- Daisy:
- Real Red 2 1/2 X 2 1/2 punched with larger daisy punch
- Basic White 2 1/2 X 2 1/2 punched with larger daisy punch
- Night of Navy 2 X 2 punched with medium daisy punch
- Circle on top of daisy: Basic White, scrap, with 1/2″ punch layered with a small star cut out from the die
- Greeting: Basic White, 2 1/2 X 2, Stitched So Sweetly Die, stamped in Night of Navy, sponged with Real Red
- Stamp Set: Hey Birthday Chick
- Inks: Night of Navy for sentiment and Real Red for sponging
- Dies: Stitched Stars Dies, Stitched So Sweetly
- Punches: Daisy Punch, Medium Daisy Punch and 1/2″ circle punch
- Ribbon: 1/4″ Quilted Ribbon, 6 1/2″ with the green stripe colored with a Dk Night of Navy Stampin’ Blend
- Inside strips:
- Real Red 4 X 1/2
- Basic White 3 7/8 X 3/8
- 3 Night of Navy stars from the die cut outs used for the swirly stars on front
- Embellishments: 3 holiday red rhinestones
