More Dainty Delight Cards

I have two more Dainty Delight cards to share today, one using the Dainty Delight stamps and one using the Dainty Delight Dies!  This is a Triple Time Stamping Card where you layer the three white pieces together with temporary glue, stamp the images and color them, then take the three white pieces apart and layer them on the base and two purple pieces.

.

Recipe for Triple Time Stamping Layers

  • Stamps:  Dainty Delight, Shaded Summer for the Happy Birthday
  • Base: Highland Heather; 11 X 4 1/4, scored at 5 1/2
  • Mats: same cardstock as bases
    • 3 1/4 X 4 1/2
    • 2 1/4 X 3 1/2
  • Artwork Layers:  Basic White, Temporarily adhere together with temp glue or use just a bit of snail and then use your fingers to rub the snail so the oil in your fingers makes the glue less sticky
    • 2 X 3 1/4
    • 3 X 4 1/4
    • 4 X 5 1/4
  • Inside Layer: Basic White, 4 X 5 1/4
  • Embellishments:  Highland Heather Open Weave Ribbon, Brass Butterflies;
  • Copic Markers:  BV00-flowers, Y06-centers, YG13 for the greenery
  • Ink:  Highland Heather and Shaded Spruce for front greeting; the flower stems are also stamped in Highland Heather
  • Markers:  I used Stampin’ Up! watercolor markers for the little inside flowers at the bottom

Which do you like better for triple time- the Dainty, the Color Contour or the butterflies?

Dainty has its place depending on the person.  I guess that is why we choose to make cards that we can personalize!

This next card uses the dies instead of the stamps:

For this card I cased a card made by Jan Clother of New Zealand!

Recipe

  • Base:  Thick Basic White, 5 1/2 X 8 1/2, scored at 4 1/4
  • Layer (X2):  Basic White, 5 1/4 X 4;  Use the 3D Brick & Mortar Embossing Folder to emboss the front layer
  • Flowers:  Die cut with Dainty Delight dies
    • Blushing Bride – 1 1/2 X 2, 4 full flower cut, 1 flower bud cut
  • Vine:  Old Olive, 8 X 2 1/2, die cut 3 with Dainty Delight vine die, use cut off edge of one for the inside
  • Butterflies:  Blushing Bride, 2 X 1, Butterfly Brilliance Dies, Die cut one tiny and one small
  • Front Greeting:  Basic White, I reached in my container of greetings from More Messages and then punched two backgrounds in Blushing Bride cutting them and  layering them
  • The Thank You Greeting on the inside is from Go To Greetings stamped in Old Olive
  • Embellish:  clear jewels for the inside of the flowers and sparkly jewels for the butterfly and card front

So is the Dainty Delight bundle going to be put in the bake sale since you used it more than most?

Oh my, Sal, that is the best reason to keep it in the stash.  So many of the BAKE SALE items I never used or only used for one workshop.  Friends, if the item is in bold it is still available at http://stampinup.com

Check out the BAKE SALE today for great deals on products.  I am listing the rest of the stamps on Facebook today.

Thank you for checking out my blog!

SAL,  Sacrificing A Lot of the stash today

Dainty Delight Stampin’ Up!

The Dainty Delight bundle at Stampin’ Up! carried over into the new catalog and I am definitely delighted!  I am casing a Wyermann’s Whimsey card design and she has a great tip for us on her youtube channel.  I will include those links further down the blog.

Here is a thank you card just like Lorraine Weyermann’s with just a few of my own changes:

.

Wait!  You used a die cut for the greeting that isn’t symmetrical?!

Yes, Sal, it is from the Beautiful Shapes Dies from Stampin’ Up! – retiring May 3!

The stamping on the inside of the birthday card is from the Stampin’ Up! Artistically Inked Stamp Set and it is not retiring.  The little flowers and grass at the bottom of the inside of the birthday card are from the Dainty Delight stamp set and I colored the back of the stamp with markers.  The front greetings are both from the Dainty Delight stamp set stamped in Memento Black on a Basic White Beautiful Shapes Die- (the one I said I would never use-ha -never say never)!

Recipe

  • Base:  Basic White, 5 1/2 X 8 1/2, scored at 4 1/4
  • Layer (X2):  Designer Series Paper (DSP), 5 1/4 X 4 (cut with the yellow at top left for a bit of sunshine)
  • Flowers:  Die cut with Dainty Delight dies
    • Flirty Flamingo – 1 1/2 X 2, 1 full flower cut, 1 half flower cut
    • Melon Mambo – 1 1/2 X 2, 1 full flower cut, 1 half flower cut, layer behind Flirty Flamingo
    • Fresh Freesia – 1 1/2 X 2, 1 full flower cut, 1 half flower cut
    • Highland Heather – 1 1/2 X 2, 1 full flower cut, 1 half flower cut, layer behind Fresh Freesia
  • Vine:  Old Olive, 5 X 2 1/2, die cut with Dainty Delight vine die
  • Centers:  Daffodil Delight, 1 X 1, die cut with the center which has four centers together – 2 full and 2 half centers
  • Greeting:  Basic White, 3 1/4 X 1 1/2, stamp greeting in Memento Black, die cut with Beautiful Shapes die and adhere direct to the DSP
  • Embellish:  brass butterfly and flower resin shape – retired

The vine is glued direct to the DSP.

Layer the flowers with glue dots and then pop up with dimensionals.

Lorraine Weyermann’s  video below shows this presentation of the dies:

And one more video from Melanie Coverston using a background with a brick embossing folder and sunflowers:

.  You found some beauties!

Yes, thanks to the ladies who post videos for us to learn from.

My Bake Sale tab now has the products I am selling so let me know if you would like anything.  I will eventually post to Facebook and Ebay but I wanted to let my loyal followers have first pick.  I accept paypal, so send me your requests and your zip code and I will invoice you.  When I receive payment, I will immediatly ship the product(s).

Best Friends’ Birthday Cards

There are little daffodils poking up through the ground; poor things got covered with 4″ of new snow yesterday.

From a distance the bare branches of the bushes with clumps of snow look like we are growing cotton!

Let’s head south! Way south!

Now Sal, this is just springtime in the Rockies!  In another week we will be out getting flower beds ready for planting.

Today, I would like to show you a couple fun birthday cards and alert you to new postings in the ‘Bake Sale’ tab with many of the items I am purging.

You can’t call them ‘new’ postings when there haven’t been any postings of sale items for eons.

True!  Folks, there are postings in the Bake Sale of items I am selling. Better, Sal?

Just trying to be helpful!

Back to the birthday cards!  The first is a slimline card for Paul’s birthday with a stamp set from Whimsy called “Best Friends”.

Recipe

  • Base:  Thick Basic White, 8 3/8 X 6 3/4 scored at 3 3/8; (Note: 8 1/2 X 7 scored at 3 1/2 is the standard slimline but I wanted a 1/16″ reveal of the base)
  • Border (X2): Early Espresso, 8 1/4 X 3 1/4
  • Top Layer:  Designer Series Paper, 8 X 3
  • Inside Top Layers:
    • Designer Series Paper, 4 X 3
    • Basic White, 4 X 3
  • Blue Cut Outs:  Pacific Point, 8 1/2 X 3 1/4,  Die Cut 2 large and three small shapes with Stampin’ Up! Diorama Dies then emboss with Stampin’ Up! 3D Cane Weave embossing folder
  • Outside Greeting:  Rectangle Stitched Framelit in Early Espresso 2 3/4 X 1 1/2, with Basic White Top Layer, 1 X 2 3/8
  • Inside Greeting: Rectangle Stitched Framelit in Early Espresso, 3/4 X 2 7/8 with Basic White Top of 1/2 X 2 1/2
  • Images: Basic White, 4 1/4 X 5 1/2, stamp in Memento Black, Color with Copic Markers
    • YG03-straw; C3-milk & egg outlines using 0 to lighten and blend; B000-Cup
    • Y13-butter; C5-legs & arms; V15-Jelly; R00-Tongue; E33-PBtr & Bacon
    • E31-Toast top & cookie; E18-Toast crust & Chocolate chips; E15-Syrup
    • B24-Together coloring after stamping in memento ink
  • Happy Birthday – Stampin’ Up Hey Chick stamp set, all other greetings are from Whimsy Best Friends set
  • Embelishments – 5 swarovski crystals

The characters and hearts on the front are popped up, the other pieces are adhered directly to the paper.

Here are individual pictures for the sake of looking closely at the coloring – I am new to these Copics and will need to refresh my memory frequently until I get used to numbers- plus, they are just cute to look at separately.

.

.

.

.

If you stamped me in black, could you color me with Copics?

We’ll try someday!  For now I have another birthday card to show and this time I used some foiling.  I have a special friend’s husband who has the most adventurous stories imaginable and he was a pilot so I put the two together to make his birthday card.  It is a ‘never ending card’.  We made this card at club for Valentine’s Day in 2016.  Here is a hint – to effectively use the blog, go to the recipe box and find the thumbnail picture of the card you remembered making and click on the picture and you will go to that posting so you can make another card like it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZF-FGBX_Cis

.

Don’t let the picture fool you- this is a standard A2 card!  Fold the top flap up and the bottom flap down and voila:

.

I stamped the plane from Stampin’ Up!’s retired ‘Sky Is The Limit’ stamp set onto Shrinky Dink Paper, colored the back side, cut it out, and then cooked it to make a cute little card size 3D plane!

I stamped the clouds and then decided they needed to be a little 3D also so I added our puff paint.  It stuck to the top of the paper so that wasn’t the best idea but it gives the cloud a little blue dimension.  Now let’s fold the card again:

.

Then once more up with the top and down with the bottom so we go to the back for a greeting:

.

The foiled paper is from a retired Stampin’ Up! designer series paper and the gold ADVENTURE was a card front sent with my new Minc machine that we ran through the machine with gold foil.   Paul figured out how to get all the large letters on the front flaps by cutting and gluing each one separately.  I’ve ordered more foils so stay tuned for fun cards with foil embellishments.

Never Ending Card Recipe Basics (watch the video for construction)

  • Base:   Basic White, 4 1/4 X 11
    • Cut in half for two 4 1/4 X 5 1/2 bases
    • Score one of the half pieces at 1 3/8″ on 4 1/4 top & bottom then cut that piece in half at 2 1/8,
    • Score the other half piece on the 5 1/2 side at 1 1/16″ at top and 1 1/16″ at bottom, then cut in half at 2 3/4″
    • Add two pieces of sticky tape right up to the score line on the two 4 1/4″ pieces
      •
      • Burnish all your score lines both ways
  • Now the two pieces you cut in the first step that are 2 1/8″ X 5 1/2″ will go on top of the 4 1/4 X 2 3/4 pieces
    • first adhere each piece to the bottom corner of the piece that has the sticky strip, laying your 4 1/4″ in line with the edge and bottom.  The two pieces should meet in the middle
    • then slide the top piece of the 2 3/4 X 4 1/4 piece in alignment with the bottom that now has the two pieces attached and then press the top onto the sticky strips

If you get all the pieces cut and scored with the sticky strip added, then it would be best to watch the video (at point 2:43) for how to lay the first two strips on top of the second two strips.

What the video doesn’t show is decorating the many sections and their dimensions so I will list those here. Note:  If you like the design to exactly match, multiply the sections by 2 and then cut in half to match designs.

  • Front Middle (X2):  Blue foil DSP, 2 X 2 5/8
  • Front Sides (X4):  Blue Glimmer Paper, 7/8, X 2 5/8
  • First Fold Middle (X2):  Blue Sky DSP, 2 X 2 5/8
  • First Fold Top & Bottom Sides (X 4):  7/8  X 1.1/4
  • Second Fold Middle (X2):  DSP, 2 X 2 5/8
  • Second Fold Sides (X4): DSP,  7/8  X 1.1/4
  • Back Middle (X2):  DSP,  2 5/8″ X 2″
  • Back Top and Bottom (X4):  DSP, 1 1/4″  X 2″

And your next fold will bring you to the front again!  Have fun.  It should be marketed as a stress relief tool as you play with folding it back and forth!  My first Never Ending Card (also called a Perpetual Card) was a Valentine card and I started with colored card stock bases so I could just add embellishments whilly nilly!   You can click on the blue to see that card.

http://stampalosopher.com/?p=787

You had to make an extra base so you could give instructions so why not make another?!

Well, Sal, I do need a birthday card!  Let’s do it!

.

.

.

For this card:

  • Basic White Base
  • Purple Ombre Glimmer Paper
  • How Sweet It Is Designer Series Paper
  • “This Calls For Confetti”, So Sentimental stamp set with oval punch
  • “Happy Birthday”, Birthday Chick Dies
  • “Hope Your Day is…..” Postcard Pals with Tailored Tag punch
  • “Hugs, Prayers, Love”  Positive Thoughts with Peek A Hoot Dies Rectangle
  • “Let’s Celebrate You”  Birthday Chick Stamp Set
  • Streamers, Birthday Chick Stamp Set
  • Balloons with double balloon punch
  • Vellum tiny envelope with punch and butterflies with retired butterfly thinlet
  • Gorgeous Grape Ink

That could be your  graduation cards, too!

A valid possibility!

I taught the Shrinky Dink technique several years ago in a technique club.

Are we able to go somewhere on your blog to see all your technique sheets?

That is a great idea, Sal!  I will work on doing that, right after I get the products I am selling on the ‘Bake Sale’ tab.  I could at least create a new tab and add this Shrinky Dink technique sheet.  I need a short name to fit the tab so ‘technique’ is out – any suggestions?

Well, you have a ‘Recipe Box’ and a ‘Bake Sale’ so how about ‘Cookbook’?

Great idea, Sal!  Consider it done!

The first of many products have been added to the Recipe Box!

Toodoloo friends!  I hope you have found a pinch of creativity today to spice up your crafting world!

Bee With Heart

Let’s take a trip to a fantasy land where bees are pink!  I used a digital stamp by Connie Fong called Bee With Heart!  I saw this cute pink bee on a card by Gloria Shirr and just “had to have whatever stamp it was”.  You all know that feeling!  Little did I know it would lead me to a new world– digital stamping!

.

.

After printing the digital images on Basic White cardstock, I cut them out with a Stampin’ Up! ‘Deckled Rectangles Die’ and adhered to a layer of retired pink marble designer series paper.  For the inside greeting I used Stampin’ Up!’s ‘Prized Peony’ stamp set.  By duplicating the images and printing landscape I could print four fronts to a sheet of 8 1/2 X 11.  The digital stamp set has a boy bee and a girl bee with two greetings and a flower.  Here is the second greeting on a card for my mother.

.

.

The inside greeting is a stamp Lucille gave me before she moved far far away to New Jersey.  Miss you, friend!  The clear heart and pink pearls are retired Stampin’ Up! embellishments.

Wait just a cotton pickin’ minute!  If you had just one girl bee stamp, how did you get two facing each other?

Well, Sal, we learned to do mirror images with regular stamps using the stamparatus and a silicon sheet,  but with a digital stamp it is just a click of a button!

Recipe

  • Base:  Basic White 5 1/2 X 8 1/2 scored at 4 1/4
  • Border Layer:  Designer Series Paper (DSP), 5 3/8 X 4 1/8
  • Top Layer:  Basic White 5 1/2 X 4 1/4  cut with Second Largest Deckled Rectangle Die
  • Inside Strip: DSP, 1/2 X 5 3/8
  • Embellishments:  3 pink pearls for outside, 4 clear dots for middle of flowers and 1 clear heart on inside
  • Copic Markers
    • RV10 and RV23 for the bee’s body and heart
    • RV09 for the Nose and Inside of the flowers
    • R00 and a tiny touch of RV10 for the wings and then a coat of Wink Of Stella

I hope you enjoyed a trip to fantasy land!

Here I am adding a sympathy card made with one of the digital images from Connie Fong Art but this time in more traditional colors:

.

  • Copic Markers
    • R27 for the heart, flowers and tiny touch on nose
    • Y13 Inside flower
    • C9 Black on Bee
    • YR12 Yellow on Bee
    • E000 Face
    • R00 and a tiny touch of RV10 for the wings and then a coat of Wink Of Stella
  • Deckled Rectangle Dies are used to create the frame with a piece cut out of the middle of the front used to borde the back
  • Inside Greeting:  Kindness & Compassion stamp set, love how it ties to the digital greeting on the front.

By combining digital with the dies and stamps I have in my stash I have a new realm of card making!

SAL,  Sending A Lot of Love

Having fun with Leprechauns!

Did you all eat corn beef and cabbage and look for leprechauns?  Nor did I, however, I did have fun with leprechaun cards!

Last month at the Shoebox event, Jo Brooks was the hostess and we made two St. Patrick’s Day cards to which I added leprechauns to delight the hearts of the grandkids!  The Whimsy stamp set “Lucky Leprechauns” had  fun images to stamp which were even more fun to color!  I just put a leprechaun over the greeting on Jo’s design- sounds like a trick a leprechaun might do -popping up just anywhere!

I added two more on the inside and stamped a couple leprechauns on a separate sheet to send in the envelope for the little ones to color.

The shamrocks and greeting are from the Stampin’ Up! ‘Lucky Clover’ stamp set.  I just colored the back of the stamp to say ‘sending love’ instead of ‘sending luck and love’.  Jo’s black and white plaid/dots and those bright green sequins were the perfect accents!

Jo’s second card was as beautifully designed as the first:

.

I just modified the inside with a leprechaun and the ‘Lucky Clover’ greeting!  It was fun to have two different color schemes on the cards!   Thank you, Jo, for a fun time and two great cards!

Having just purchased a Mini Minc Machine for foiling as well as a roll of bright green foil, I designed a few cards using the Whimsy “Lucky Leprechauns” stamp set and the Whimsy Toner Card Fronts – 8 to a pack, 2 each of 4 designs.

.

The toner fronts from Whimsy are a full A2 card size so I had to cut off a strip to have a border on front so I used that strip on the inside of one of the cards.  ‘Sending Love’ is from Stampin’ Up!’s Lucky Clover set, the ‘Lucky to have U’ and the ‘happy St. Patrick’s Day’ are from Whimsy’s Lucky Leprechauns. The front leprechaun is on a craft spring for extra fun!

Cute!  But you could have just put a green hat on me!

Hmmmm…… let me think about that.

I tried to catch the beautiful foiling on this next card front:

.

It is a white card toner front from Whimsy on a gold foil layer on a black base.

.

Just looks stamped with garden green to me.

I know; maybe that is why foiling is not promoted very highly by some.  Trust me, it is beautiful in real life.  I used an oval to cut out the ‘Happy St. Patrick’s Day’ on the second card front from Whimsy so I could use it next year and yet have a matching  border for the inside of this card.

.

The greeting is from Stampin’ Up!’s ‘Pansy Patch‘ stamp set.

You should name your leprechauns!

Let’s see, the bowler hat, the top hat and the beanie hat?  How about O’Pat, O’Reilly and O’Gill?

Which hat do you like best?

I used Copic Alcohol Markers for the coloring:

  • YG17 – Hats and Jackets
  • YG13 – Shamrocks
  • Y35 – Gold (I don’t recommend the gold Wink Of Stella- it was too dark, but the clear Wink of Stella worked well.)
  • YR00 – Face
  • E13, E15 – Shoes and Hat Band
  • YR 18 – Beard
  • C9, C7 – Pot

I am new to Copics but I found that I could use one marker for different shades just by adding additional layers.

Will you ever be ahead of the celebration instead of behind?

It is fun to ‘scrapbook’ what I have done here on the blog.  Hopefully others enjoy looking back and smiled seeing these cute little characters!

Happy Spring everyone!

Cherished Friend Valentine

Our stamping group met together on the traditional second Tuesday of the month and it just happened to be Valentine’s Day this year!  I pulled out my ‘hearts’ collection and created a heart of hearts Valentine similar to a card made by Mary Herdt only monochromatic red and white with different embossing folders, a different background for the hearts and hearts instead of flowers for bling.  I will note the products I used in the recipe.

.

. Let me guess…. you forgot to take a picture of the inside before you wrote in them?!

Yes, and handwriting is not my forte.

Recipe

  • Base:  Thick Basic White, 4 1/4 X 11, scored at 5 1/2
    • Stamp the lace look 1 1/2 down from the top and 1 1/2 up from the bottom with retired Delicate Details stamp (note: I used the Stamparatus so I could stamp twice for a darker image)
    • Stamp ‘Cherished Friend’ with greeting from Lovely You stamp set
  • Inside Layer:  Basic White, 4 X 5 1/4, stamped with Real Red using 2 stamps from the retired Valentine Love
  • Sparkly Background:  Red Glitter Paper, 2 1/2 (minus a hair so 2  7/16) X 4 1/4 (minus a hair so 4 3/16)
    • It is a good idea to cut your background paper just slightly smaller than the top layer
  •  Top Layer:  Basic White, 2 1/2 X 4 1/4, die cut with Blooming Happiness Die
    • after rolling out the little cuts, push the little leaves up from the backside for more texture
  • Three Smallest Hearts:  Basic White, 2 1/4 X 2 1/4, Cut and embossed using the retired Embosslits Fashionable Hearts
  •  Large Hearts (X2):  Basic White, 2 X 2, punch with the retired heart punch which measures 1 3/4 across at the top
    • Emboss one with the Ornate Flower 3D embossing folder
    • Emboss the other with the Dainty Diamonds 3D embossing folder
  • Bling it up!
    • Two red Glossy Dots
    • Two connected hearts die cut from the Many Hearts Die (from the long die of hearts cut just the two connected hearts fussy cutting the two away from the other hearts

I bet they can use any of their heart’s stash of stamps and dies to make a similar card!

Yes, Sal, and any embossing folder could be used!

Thank you for sharing a bit of your precious time today as Sal and I strive to bring a pinch of creativity to your crafting world!

Sal,  Send A bit of Love

Love Cats Card

The cutest kitty cat stamp set is available in the Stampin’ Up! Mini Catalog!  It is callled ‘Love Cats’ -quite appropriate for a title!

I saw a card made by Jenny Boyle with one cat holding the tail of another cat and loved that idea so I changed colors, flowers, background, bling and greeting to make this:

The flowers and paper for the oval frame are from the Hues of Happiness Designer Series Paper.  The flowers are fussy cut and the oval frame is made using the Oval Framelits.   It is amazing how one little idea can lead to a very different card!  I was making this for a get well card and used a greeting from the ‘Beautifully Happy’ Stamp Set in the Sale A Bration catalog:

I was experimenting with oval sizes and had an extra oval so I stamped the third kitty cat on it, put tear and tape around three edges and added it to the inside left of the card for the gift card.

This is the stamp set:

It is a great stamp set, and with the Stamparatus you can get perfect placement of the kitty so that you can stamp a couple of times for a nice black image.

The ‘Beautifully Happy’ Stamp Set is free with a $100 purchase.  It has 17 stamps and is a two step so you can ‘stamp to color’ the  flowers and leaves after first stamping the outside!

Stampin’ Up! has a new set of ovals which you can get separately or as a bundle:

Wow, that is tiny – I need a magnifying glass to see the ovals!

Better?!

Yes!

So let’s look at this from a Sale A Bration standpoint.

-Framed Florets Bundle. $54. #162407.  This has the oval you need, mine is retired.

Sale A Bration ends on February 28 so don’t delay!  Check out the Catalog Tab here on the blog if you don’t have a hardcopy of the catalog.

The hostess code for February is C3XMWVCS.  This code is used if your order is under $150 so all the little orders add together to give someone (might be you) hostess dollars!  Over $150 and you get the hostess dollars yourself to spend on anything you would like from the Annual Catalog or the Mini Catalog.  Both these catalogs end on May 1 when the new Annual Catalog comes out.

Click on little Sal in the computer to go to the Stampin’ Up! site and order.   Thank you so much for supporting me!  If you don’t use the host code you will need to select me as your demonstrator.

Surprise!

I have a treat for you today!  I joined a Quill-A-Long event on Facebook taught by Kelly Foulk.  She uploaded clear instructions to a file on her facebook page “Quill-A-Long” and then held the live event which you can still watch on Facebook.  After making the rose from her design, I made it into a card!

I took multiple pictures trying to show you the quills a bit better and wasn’t successful.  I will have to work on my photography or choose quilling strips of a lighter color.

Be sure and visit Kelly Foulk at Quill-A-Long on Facebook for all the directions and the replay of the Facebook live.  Click on ‘files’ in her Facebook Quill-A-Long page to get the directions and a pattern to follow.

I am confused!  Why would you want to do something like quilling?  You are a stamper!

I know, Sal, but check out the card, quilling and stamping can be used together!  Here is a side shot but the dark green is too dark to show the quilled leaves.  I used Kelly’s colored pattern but perhaps if I used the pattern on plain white the quilling might show.

For the inside of this sympathy card I used the retired Thoughts & Prayers stamp set.  The outside greeting is from the retired Many Messages stamp set.

Recipe:

  • Base:  Thick Basic White cardstock, 5 1/2 X 8 1/2, scored at 4 1/4.
  • Layer 1: Hues of Happiness Designer Series Paper,  3 1/2 X 5, Die cut with Ornate Layers Die.
  • Layer 2: Thick Basic White, 2 1/4 X 3 5/8, I printed Kelly’s rose design on 8 1/2 X 11, constructed the rose and then used a ruler and scissors to cut to the correct size since you can’t cut with the rose attached.  In the future I will cut the base of the design first and then build the rose. I corner rounded top left and bottom right .
  • Inside Layer: Thick Basic White, 2 1/4 X 3 5/8, corner round top left and bottom right to match front.  Sponge half with Polished Pink ink and half with Crushed Curry ink.  Stamp greeting in Evening Evergreen.
  • Outside greeting:  Basic White, 5 1/2 X 4 1/4, Stamp Many Messages in Evening Evergreen and die cut with Messages Die which gives you 19 little greetings, a little heart and three stars.   The greeting is sponged on top with Polished Pink ink and half with Crushed Curry ink matching the designer series paper colors.  Pop it up with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  • Pink and yellow jewels were added for a bit of sparkle.

Will it mail in a regular A2 envelope?

No, Sal, unfortunately it needs a padded envelope and the ‘nonmachineable’ postage stamp.  The post office can also stamp the outside with their ‘nonmachineable’ word stamp but you have to have them look for the stamp as many workers forget that it exists.  I’m sure it was in their training but it is used very seldom.

Have you made other projects?

I started a kit I purchased at Michaels that looked intriguing to do outline letters for Joy’s name filled in with lovely quilling.  I followed the instructions from a Youtube that showed putting straight pins around the edge of the quilled strips to make the letters.  The paper showed every single pin mark so it was awful.  The glue technique I used didn’t work either and glue showed everywhere.  Thankfully there was a second pattern in the kit so Joy might get it by her next birthday in December.  Sigh…..

See what I mean….

Ugh… lots of work and no way to fix it with all those holes everywhere!

I saw another technique where the lady used a scoring tool to indent where she wanted the strips for the letters. I’ll let you know how that works!  Hopefully, following Kelly will help me with the art of quilling.

For now, thank you for spending a bit of your precious time with me as I present my very first completed quilling project!

Elephant Parade Pop & Twist Birthday Card

Happy New Year!  Let’s start it out with a Pop Up and Twist Birthday Card.  I used the Elephant Parade Stamp Set and Elephant Dies for Emma’s fourth birthday card as well as the retired Mischievous Mouse Hostess Stamp Set.  I wanted 4 mice – 4 elephants – 4 peanuts – 4 butterflies – 4 balloons and 4 bits of bling.   Thanks to Jaime Marsh for the front design on Pinterest and Teri Pocock of Stampin’ Magic for a great Youtube video showing how to make the card.

.  So…. who couldn’t resist counting?

Sort of like the joke.. “The first sign of craziness is a hair on your finger knuckle, the second sign is looking for it!”

Here is Teri Pocock’s youtube video- you will need this for construction of the mechanism.

    • Color with Stampin’ Blends, Lt Smoky Slate, Dk Petal Pink, Mint Macaron
  • Peanuts:  Stamp 2 with Memento on Mint Macaron and stamp 2 on Flirty Flamingo; die cut
  • Grass:  Mint Macaron, die cut 5, one for outside, four for inside
  • Outside circles:
    • Basic White, 3 3/16 die cut circle (retired circle dies)
    • Flirty Flamingo, 2 3/4 die cut with layered circle scalloped die
    • Basic White, 2 1/16 die cut with layered circle plain circle die
  • 4 green sequins

Note: The E, M, M, A and the ‘4’ stamped on the balloons is from one of Stampin’ Up!’s very first photopolymer sets- retired.

“It’s your birthday” is from Mischievous Mouse stamp set.

What about the outside greeting?

Oops, I forgot to list that in my notes.  The greeting is in the Elephant Parade stamp set and the die is the Pretty Pillowbox die, stamped with the greeting in Mint Macaron on Basic White and then die cut, and a second die cut with flirty flamingo, cut in half and then layered under the basic white.

The heart for the inside greeting is a retired heart punch.

I love this cute animal card! It could be for an adult with a sense of fun!

That’s true!  “We don’t quit laughing because we grow old; we grow old because we quit laughing.”

May we keep the childlike love of life!
