Easter Swap Cards
Hello Stamping Friends,
HAPPY EASTER!! What a joyous time as we celebrate that Jesus is alive and He provided the sacrifice for all our sins!!
I will share my Easter swap card and the swap cards from the club. Jo and Sharon sent their April swap cards early so I have extra cards for you to enjoy!
The lily is the inside petals of the Poinsettia Place DSP we had in the last mini catalog.
I used several retired and retiring products knowing the message was more important than product presentation.
The base is Purple Posy which will retire May 3 but the Ornate Layers Dies do not retire so that is good news.
Recipe:
Note: DSP is an acronym for Designer Series Paper
- Stamp Sets: Easter Message, Teeny Tiny Wishes, His Grace.
- Ink: Gorgeous Grape, Memento Black.
- Dies: Ornate Layers, Stitched Rectangle Framelits, Detailed Bands (oval), Banner Blooms (stem).
- Embossing Folder: Tasteful Textile 3D or Subtle.
- Base: Purple Posy, 8 1/2 X 5 1/2, Scored at 2″, 3″, 5 1/2″ and 6 1/2″. Note: This is 3/8 inch more than a standard card but I found it was easy to fold our standard envelope just 3/8″ more to send the card. This size allowed the card to have a nice background for the Ornate borders without the lacy edges hanging over.
- Side Layers (X2): Plain Oh So Ombre purple, 2 (minus a hair) X 5 1/2. The score line creates the need for just a hair less than the 2″ side. I used the darker at the bottom and cut 1/2″ off the dark bottom of the 6 X 6 DSP to start (you will use part of this piece later so don’t toss it).
- Side Ornate Border (X2): Very Vanilla, 2 X 5, Die cut with Ornate Border.
- Inside Layer of Side Ornate Border (X2): Oh So Ombre circles on purple DSP, 1 X 4.
- Top Ornate Border: Very Vanilla, 5 3/4 X 2 3/4, Die Cut with Ornate Border.
- Inside Layer of Top Ornate Border: Plain Oh So Ombre Purple DSP, 3 5/8 X 1 1/2, Cut this piece in half lengthwise (3/4″) for each side of cross and then place both halves in your paper cutter at the same time to cut 1″ off the lighter end so that you have two matching pieces that are 1 X 3/4 and two pieces that are 2 5/8 X 3/4. Glue these 4 pieces to the edges of the wood tone paper leaving a 3/8″ cross.
- Cross: Natural Touch Specialty Paper, 1 7/8 X 4, glue this to the Ornate Border.
- Base of cross: Plain Oh So Ombre, 1/2 X 1 7/8, Use a piece of the dark end that you cut off, glue this piece to the Ornate Border leaving the same border as the top.
- Once all your pieces are glued to the Very Vanilla Ornate Border, run the layer through an embossing folder. I used Tasteful Textiles for this one but switched to the Subtle 3D embossing folder for the others I made to make the texture more — well — subtle! Glue this directly to the middle.
- Greetings: Very Vanilla Strip, 1 3/4 X 8 1/2, stamp the dove and John 3:16 from His Grace stamp set, He Is Not Here from Easter Message Stamp Set, and Happy Easter from Teeny Tiny wishes on the vanilla strip. Fussy cut the dove, and use the Stitched Rectangle to cut the two side greetings and the oval from the Detailed Bands dies to cut He is Not Here.
- Lily: Poinsettia Place DSP, fussy cut the inside petals of one of the poinsettias or cut one of the small poinsettias in the paper and add an extra petal since lilies have six petals.
- Greenery: Garden Green, 1 1/2 X 2, Die cut two stems using the solid stem in Banner Blooms. Attach to the back of the lily and then pop up the lily in the middle of the cross.
- Dove: Very Vanilla, fussy cut from the strip shown at greetings, color the branch green and pop up above cross.
- Embellshments: Heart Charm, use Tombow on the flat side and let it sit to get good and tacky then attach. I also added three rhinestones here and there.
The three greetings, the lily, and the dove are all popped up with dimensionals, all the other pieces are glued down. Try not to get glue on the sides of the ornate borders so they look a bit lacy. I put Tombow glue in the middle back of the ornate pieces and then use a scrap piece of cardstock to spread the Tombow glue just to the edge of the middles.
How did something that looks so simple turn into so many words?
I know, Sal, but I like to add all the little tips that can help someone else make the card; especially knowing that I am that someone and might want to make half a dozen more.

Lucille’s swap is the cutest little bunny!
Joy Meadow’s swap card looks quite springy with the Hydrangea Hill Designer Series Paper. She said this fun fold is quite easy to make; we will have to try it someday.
Jo Brook’s March swap was an adorable St. Patrick’s Day card using the Word Wishes Dies and a fun gnome/leprechaun!
Lori Moore’s swap uses the Pretty Perennials stamp set in the JJ mini. The set has the big ‘happy’ word and then little words you can use with it- ‘birthday’, ‘mail’, ‘for you’, ‘you make me’, ‘sending lots of’.
Suzi Walker used the Pretty Perennials set, as well, with the matching Perennial Petals Dies. The DSP on the white is embossed with the Tasteful Textile 3D Embossing Folder. I am longing for spring flowers like these:

Snowman Theater Card

Thank you to all who patiently watched the Tuesday Facebook Live that had about 4 technical glitches. Sigh….. I did subscribe to some new streaming software so next Tuesday will rock!
There are two videos since it didn’t refresh after one of the crashes. Also, the videos wouldn’t go to full screen so when you view the videos there is an extra screen in the background. Look below that screen for the scrolling bar so you can scroll past the parts where I am battling the software.
But this is your tenth video shouldn’t it be getting better and easier?!
Good point, but every time Facebook changes something I have to figure out how to do what I used to do or perhaps I click on something new and mess things up! Who knows!

Cuts:
- Base: Coastal Cabana, 81/4 X 11; cut 1/4″ off a full 8 1/2 X 11 sheet then cut that sheet at 5 1/2 and 4 1/4. You will have( two) 5 1/2 X 4 1/4 pieces for the front and back and (two) 5 1/2 X 4 pieces for the C-fold mechanism.
- Score the two 5 1/2 X 4 pieces at 1 1/4 and 2 3/4 on the long side then burnish your folds to make a C – fold.
- I-Beam: Coastal Cabana, 1 1/4 X 4 1/4; Place horizontally at the 1/2″ line on the Stampin’ Trimmer and make a 1/4″ long cut down from the top and 1/4″ cut up from bottom. Turn and do the other end. Then lay the I-Beam vertically on the Stampin’ Trimmer at the 1/4″ line and cut from 1/2″ to 3 3/4″. Repeat on the other side.
- Suspenders: Coastal Cabana, 5 3/4 X 5/8 scored 3/4 inch on each side; these are glued to the back of the front on each side as shown above
- Front: DSP, color A, 5 1/2 X 4 1/4
- Back of Stage: DSP, color B, 2 7/8 X 4 1/4
- Back sides of Stage, glued over the mechanism: DSP color B (make 2), 1 1/4 X 4 1/4
- Sides of Stage: DSP, color B, (make 2) 1 1/2 X 4, glue on mechanism before cutting I-Beam slots
- I-Beam Strip: DSP color B, 3 1/4 X 3/4
- Greeting Frame: DSP color A, 4 1/2 X 2 3/4, corner rounded on top right and bottom left
- Inside of the Greeting Frame: DSP color B, 4 X 2 1/4
- Merry Christmas Die Cuts: Whisper White, 4 1/2 X 1 1/4, use slightly smaller adhesive sheet backing before cutting. You could also use the cut our from the front rectangle.
- Optional curtain: color as desired; 4 X 2 3/4 embossed with Winter Snow Embossing Folder. I embossed the long portion of the mechanism C-fold with the Winter Snow Embossing folder and then drug the Whisper White ink across the snowflakes for contrast
Glue the front base and the front DSP, color A, together, placing liquid glue only on the outer edge. Do not get glue on the inside. (They should be the same size 5 1/2 X 4 1/4). Place the 4th largest rectangle stitched die 3/4″ from each edge and cut. The cut out is 2 3/4″ X 4″ Use the DSP cut out to punch three trees for the background with the Pine Tree punch:
If you prefer the words to match the base, cut a piece of double back adhesive sheet (page 162 of the Annual Catalog) just a little bit smaller than the rectangle cut out – 2 1/2 X 3 3/4 and glue to the rectangle stitched Coastal Cabana you just cut out. Then place the Merry Christmas dies from Word Wishes dies on the other side of the Coastal Cabana and cut.
For the side slits for placement of the I Beam: First glue the DSP stage sides on the middle section of each mechanism. Stand the mechanisms up in their C shape so that you see the smallest side is to the back, the middle faces inward, and the curtain goes to the front. Scroll back up to the picture that shows the C Fold. This is important so you make both slits at the bottom of the stage. Place the long curtain portion at the 3 1/2″ mark on your Stampin’ Trimmer. Double check that your mechanism’s score lines are at the 3/4″ mark to the right and 3/4″ mark to the left of the middle section where you are cutting. Start your cut up 1/2″ from the bottom of the mechanism and cut 1″. Now carefully move the piece 1/16 of an inch to the left and cut again 1/2″ from the bottom, cutting up 1″. Use your scissors to cut the little 1/16 portions out to make a nice slit.
The video next Tuesday will be a theater card with the Peaceful Nativity silhouettes. I will show the construction of the I-Beam and the I-Beam slits in that video. A picture is worth a thousand words and I think I just gave you enough of both! I hope you will make many versions of this card. It is really fun!
Here is the Nativity version of the Theater card:
It uses the ‘Brightly Gleaming Designer Series Paper’ and copper foil cut outs with the ‘Nativity Dies’. You do not make an I beam for this card so that you can see the palm trees and sheep on one side and the palm tree and donkey on the other. The theater curtains are embossed with the ‘Dainty Diamonds’ embossing folder and then versa mark is rubbed across the panels and copper embossing powder applied and heated.

Rustic Retreat Waterfall Card

The card I am demonstrating today is not hard- just a bit hard to explain. I will use many pictures to help you see the process since I have yet to take on the challenge of Youtube videos.
You just can’t find a way to animate me!
And a way to stabilize the camera and the time to learn to edit! Ah well….. It is good to have a goal.
This card will show you how you can think ‘outside the box’ to create stamped images of just pieces of a stamp. We are familiar with coloring on the back of our stamps to use only what we want but this card has the greeting stamped and then cut. Side-note: when you do color the back of your stamps, be sure and use the regular markers to color the stamps not the Stampin’ Blends as Stampin Blends will stain your stamps.
On page 49 of the 2019-20 annual catalog are the two stamp sets I used for this card, Rustic Retreat and Peaceful Place:
Patience, there is a way!
I used the Garden Lane Designer Series Paper (DSP) and Garden Green card stock layer on a Thick Whisper White Base. I have pictures of two different colors from the DSP. I made two cards and didn’t realize I hadn’t taken the main pictures of the one I mailed, but “serendipity” – you get to see two versions!
So let’s look at the waterfall:
Base: Thick Whisper White, 5 1/2 X 8 1/2 scored at 4 1/4
First Layer: Garden Green, 5 3/8 X 4 1/8
Designer Series Paper (DSP) Layer: Garden Lane, 5 1/8 X 3 7/8
Waterfall Strip: Regular Whisper White, 2* X 9 1/4 scored at 2″, 2 3/4″, 3 1/2″, 4 1/4″ (Basically, 3/4″ intervals); *I cut the 2″ width just a hair less so no white showed from the edge of the squares if they weren’t cut perfect. You could also sponge the edge garden green so the white isn’t obvious.
Belt: Garden Green, 4 1/8″ X 1″, punch two small holes 1/2″ from the bottom and 1/2″ from the left and right sides,
Background Squares for waterfall: Garden Green, make 4, 2″ X 2″
Background Bottom Layer for the “Loved”: Garden Green, 2″ X 3/4″
Top Squares for waterfall: Whisper White, make 4, 1 3/4″ X 1 3/4″
For the Braver, Stronger, Smarter, Loved banners: Whisper White, 1 3/4 X 4
Inside Strip Layer: Garden Green, 5/8 X 4 1/8
Inside Strip Top: DSP to match front, 3/8 X 3 7/8
Two brads and a 1/8″ hole punch
4″ of twine
Ink:
- Thinking Of You – Soft Suede, Garden Green pine boughs
- Deer-Chocolate Chip (retired) Garden Green trees at each side
- Bear- Early Espresso, Garden Green pine boughs
- Squirrel- Basic Gray, Garden Green leaves from the Peaceful Place Stamp Set
- River Scene – Memento Black so it can be colored if you like; I added one of the birds from the High Tide set and did color the back of the bird stamp with the Basic Black marker
- Happy Birthday – Soft Suede
- Cabin – Memento Black
- Banners – Soft Suede; stamped, cut apart, then mask just the words and stamp in Soft Suede with the Thinking of You stamp, pictures following
I used the Stamparatus for the Thinking of You and the A.A. Milne quote but mounted the other stamps on acrylic blocks.
We do a lot of cutting and assembling with dies and sometimes stamping is hardly used on our cards. Not this time!
Yes, Sal, that was exactly how my club ladies reacted when I showed them all the stamps they would use. But they seemed to have a really fun time stamping!
You will know for sure they didn’t when they drop out of club!
It is always a possibility but so far club is just growing so I think it is acceptable to do challenging cards. But as I said it really isn’t that hard. Let’s start by taking our waterfall strip and burnishing those score lines nicely. The folds all go one way so it looks like a candy cane:
Next, adhere all the green 2 x 2 layers to the strip like shingles. Put your adhesive on the white strip NOT the back of the green since only part of the green is adhered in all but the 2×2 section.
Now turn the strip over and stamp the river scene on the long part. Remember the candy cane shape? It seems like you are stamping on the wrong side but you aren’t. Take the ink to the stamp and don’t try and figure out what part is off the edge and not ink that part. Just ink the whole stamp completely and use grid paper to protect your work space. (We sell that!)
Use a sticky note to mask the bottom 3/4″ of the strip so that you have a nice white border between each of the pictures.
Also mask the bottom 5/8″ of the 1 3/4″ squares used for the bear and the squirrel to give that nice white border between pictures. The deer can be stamped without masking since you have three lines of words making the banner bigger to begin with. (Say that three times fast!)
Stamp each of your 1 3/4 X 1 3/4 white squares per the above details under inks used. I wanted a little more of the rock and flowers with the squirrel so I stamped the squirrel with his tail practically off the top, then masked him and stamped the rock only on the left side of the squirrel. Clean your stamp before inking the rock so you don’t get the squirrel’s paws on the left side.
Would you mind showing us the other squares so we don’t have to keep scrolling up and down?
I can do that!
Next, stamp the A. A. Milne quote on the Whisper White 1 3/4 X 4 strip in Soft Suede ink. I used the Stamparatus for this stamp and the Thinking of You stamp so I could restamp each to get a good image. With two Stamparatus plates I put a stamp on each plate.
Now cut each section of the saying. You will love the Stampin’ Up! cutter for this step, you can tell right where you are cutting.
Head back to the Stamparatus and put each of these sayings right where we stamped the ‘Thinking of You’. Mask the words, remembering the Thinking of You is a bit longer than some of the sayings so your sticky note will be as wide as the word ‘Thinking’ and then ink up the Thinking of You stamp in Soft Suede and stamp your banners.
Use a second sticky note to hold the mask in place since we can’t use a magnet.
Voila! You have banners with wood grain edges! Glue those at the bottom of your little white squares.
Take the little 2″ X 3/4″ Garden Green piece and mount the ‘Loved’ banner. Punch two little holes on each side of A. A. Milne and run a piece of twine up from the back and tie a double knot at the front leaving extra length down from the banner.
Glue this piece on the bottom of the river scene.
No, Sal, but this is a good place to stop and get some coffee and chocolate!!
The belt on the front is next and it is the critical piece to making the waterfall card work correctly and fit in our standard envelope.
Belt: Garden Green, 4 1/8″ X 1″, punch two small holes 1/2″ from the bottom and 1/2″ from the left and right sides. Each square on our grid paper is 1/4″ so that is helpful.

Sal, be nice, you’re the one who didn’t want to keep scrolling up and down.
Once you’ve punched the little holes in the belt, adhere the DSP to the Garden Green layer and then position the belt 1″ from the bottom of the belt to the bottom of the Garden Green layer. Mark through your holes in the belt with a pencil to show where to punch the other layers.
Punch holes through the Garden Green and DSP layers. Be careful here: add tear and tape to the back of the belt on the 1/2″ width between the hole and the side of the belt for extra stability making sure no adhesive gets between the two holes. Attach the belt with the brads.
You are ready to attach your waterfall strip! Place two pieces of tear and tape at the very center of the belt and no longer than the 2″ width of the waterfall strip.
Slide the waterfall strip behind the belt, peel off the backing of the tear and tape, and glue the end of the waterfall strip – the squirrel in our case- on the center of the belt exactly lining up the bottom of the belt with the end of the waterfall strip.
Stamp Happy Birthday on the inside in Soft Suede and the cabin in Memento Black, if you want to color with the blends. Add the strips at the bottom, stamp your name on the back and you really do have a masterpiece!
So now you know another way to use stamps! I hope you enjoyed the detail and are ready to make your own Rustic Retreat Waterfall Card.

Dino Days Birthday Cards

Hopefully you are finding time during these windy winter days to have fun with your Sale A Bration products.
I made birthday cards for my grandsons Jaxson -now 3- and Emmitt -now 2! They are really into dinosaurs. I preferred the Mickey Mouse days but like my hubby says – they are boys and love to roar like a dinosaur and take dinosaur bites at dinner and attack Grandpa with a roar and a dino toy! What fun.
So it is Dino Days stamps and Dinoroar Designer Series Paper (DSP) with Dino Dies to cut out the dinosaurs on the DSP. See page 99 in the annual catalog:
I made a pop up box card and a waterfall card. The DSP is so ‘Rawrsome’ itself. It is mounted on a layer of Pretty Peacock and a card base of Balmy Blue. The pop up box card fits perfectly inside our standard envelopes.
Pop Up Box Card:
We cut out dinosaurs from the DSP and another dino of the same in a matching card stock to glue behind the DSP for strength. The dinosaurs were mounted on a strip of window sheet to secure them to the box base:
The back of the box lends itself to more stamping and I used the Vertical Greetings (retired) for the Happy Birthday and the Dino Days stamps for the greeting, palm tree, and dino tracks. I hand drew the mountains.
We cut out several additional dinosaurs and backed them with cardstock to stick in the pockets of the clothes we bought for their birthdays so they had dinosaurs to play since clothes are just not the preferred gift for toddlers.

The pdf is from a past waterfall card. The difference on this one is that I used two layers on top of the base and increased the size of the little panel layers by 1/8″ so I could use a square Stitched Shape Framelit. I started with a small square Stitched Shape Framelit with a Pretty Peacock layer but I thought it was too small for the outside so I used it on the inside of the card and switched to a larger square Stitched Shape Framelit and used it to cut the Pretty Peacock layers behind the DSP squares which I just cut to size. I was able to get more of the dinosaurs on the top layer with a bigger square.
Base: Balmy Blue 5 1/2 X 8 1/2 scored at 4 1/4
First Layer: Pretty Peacock 5 3/8 X 4 1/8 (make 2 so you have one for the inside)
Second Layer: Dinoroar Designer Series Paper (DSP) 5 1/8 X 3 7/8 (make one of whisper white for the inside)
Waterfall Strip: Whisper White 2 1/8 X 9 1/4; Scored at 3/4″ intervals, 2 1/8—-2 7/8—3 5/8—4 3/8 (1/8 more than the standard directions), Burnish your score lines well going in one direction so the strip looks like a candy cane.
Front Belt: 1″ X 4 1/4″; punch a hole for the brad 1/2″ over and 1/2″ up on both sides of the belt.
Peacock Squares layered on the strip like shingles: (4) 2 1/8 X 2 1/8
Top Squares of DSP: (4) 1 3/4 X 1 3/4
Ribbon: Pretty Peacock 1/2″ scalloped linen ribbon: 3″ run through a ribbon hole punched at the bottom of the waterfall and then glued together with glue dots.
Adhere the DSP full sized layer to the Peacock front layer – NOT the Balmy Blue Base yet – and then place your belt 1″ from the bottom of the Peacock layer and mark through your belts’ hole punches with a pencil- see above- to punch the two layers for adding the belt with brads. I added a tiny strip of tear and tape to the back of the belt between the hole and the edge of the belt just to secure it in place and then put the brad through the three layers. Now you can attach the layers to the Balmy Blue Base- I suggest tear and tape for extra strength.
When gluing the Peacock squares, put adhesive on the white 3/4″ sections of the white waterfall strip not on the back of the Peacock squares. You will attach the TOP only of the Peacock squares to the 3/4″ sections. Slide the waterfall strip under the belt. Put tear and tape on the belt just the width of the waterfall (2 1/8″) and attach the bottom 1″ of the waterfall to the belt.
Be careful as you stamp the large section of the belt so that you do not get it on the wrong side of the white waterfall strip.
Placing the belt an inch from the bottom is critical to making the card work. I didn’t read my own directions and just placed it where I liked it. That is why I have two sets of brads so I could cover up my mistake and place the belt correctly.

#Elfie Diorama Card

It’s an Elfie day in the neighborhood, an Elfie day in the neighborhood, won’t you be my neighbor!
Yup! Elfie from my head to my toes! Ruger was the cutest elf of all!
‘#Elfie’ is a super cute stamp set (page 22 of the 2019 Holiday catalog). I am casing Michelle Andrews and the diorama card she posted on her blog: www.stamppraylove.blogspot.com. I changed the coloring and positioning and added puff paint to the bobbles on their shoes and hat. I used the ‘Birch’ background stamp set to add a faux wood frame look. The little elf in the stocking would be great on the back of the card but I can only expect my club to do so much fussy cutting.
The greetings on the front and back come from the ‘Perfectly Plaid’ stamp set on page 14 of the 2019 Holiday catalog.
- Base: Crumb Cake 4 1/4 X 11; Score at 5/8, 5 3/8, 6, 10 3/4, Use 3rd largest rectangle framelit to cut the front. Mask each section of the base and stamp with Soft Suede ink using the ‘Birch’ background stamp. Stamp the front and back greetings using Shaded Spruce ink. The Stamparatus helps you stamp the greetings and restamp them to get nice dark green images. Burnish all the score lines really well to assure the card moves well and lays flat.
- Back of the Diorama: Pool Party, 4 3/4 minus 1/16 (4 11/16) to allow for score lines X 4 1/4, stamp snowflakes in Pool Party Ink and adhere snowflake sequins.
- Elves: Whisper White, 4 1/4 X 5 1/2, Stamp in Memento Ink and color with Stampin’ Blends. Fussy Cut. Use a blender pen to dip in Pool Party ink and color the area between the elf and the Christmas ornament. Glue a strip of whisper white on the back of the two tall pieces for stability.
- Snow Mounds: Thick Whisper White, Make 2: 5 1/4 X 2 1/4; creatively cut a large right hand mound and a smaller left hand mound. Score each side of the mounds 1/4″ . Make a template and you can quickly cut out the snow mounds for each card kit.
The rectangle cutout uses the 3rd largest die in the Rectangle Stitched Framelits. It is 1/2″ down from the top leaving about 3/4″ on the bottom for your greeting. I was able to stamp the three elves and the package on one 4 1/4 X 5 1/2 ( 1/4 of a sheet) whisper white. I cut two little strips 1/4 X 4 to adhere to the back of the long elf images for a bit more stability. The snow mound on the left is 1 3/4″ at the peak and goes in front of the right hand snow mound which measures 2″ at the peak.
The snow mounds are glued together to make a box of sorts.
The snow mound “box” is decorated with elves and snow. Glue the elves to the snow mounds before adding snow. Make sure nothing is adhered to the pool party background or the card will not lie flat to go in an envelope. Burnish each fold really well to help the card move. Cut around the elbows of the ‘No Peeking’ elf and don’t cut off the words. The elbows go over the front frame and the words give you a tab to glue to the back of the frame. Likewise with the package – cut a little tab at the bottom to use for gluing to the front of the frame.
The Holiday catalog has ‘Shimmery Crystal Effects’ on page 41 which you will use to adhere the ‘Ice Stampin’ Glitter’ (same page). It is most remarkable how the Crystal Effects holds the glitter and so cool how sparkly the ice glitter looks! The puff paint (page 19) is so fun to add to the hats and shoes of the elves! We learned to hold the bottle almost horizontally and let gravity do as much of the work as possible instead of squeezing the bottle. The background is pool party stamped in pool party ink with the snowflake stamp set in ‘#Elfie’. The little teensy tiny snowflakes are from the ‘Snowflake Sequins’ on page 43 of the 2019 Holiday Catalog. (Or you may have some left from the October Paper Pumpkin).
Place ‘Tear and Tape’ on the outside edges of your snow mound box and adhere to the base in the middle on the right side. This leaves about 1/8″ on each side of the base. When you adhere the other side which has the seam, place tear and tape on the seam and then fold the right hand side over the tape to insure the box will lie flat. This is a view from the bottom:

Now that we know how to make diorama cards just imagine what other stamp sets we can use. My inspiration came from Lucille who had the absolute cutest little diorama card with doggies. Hmmm…….snowmen next – or deer??

“All That You Are” Box Pop Up Card – most popular on Pinterest

Did you overlook the stamp set on the inside cover of the Occasions catalog? The flowers in this set are beautiful and the font on the greetings is lovely. Take a look see! (the blue means there is a framelit to cut it out):
I cased several people and watched FrenchieStamps.com do an inside pop up flower box.
Can you distinguish that cute little flower in the box? It would even look great as a focal point with one of the Vibrant Vases stamps. The crafters had a choice of three colors, Balmy Blue, Calypso Coral or Gorgeous Grape and they all turned out phenomenal! Pictures of those are after the recipe below.
Do you think I can talk Paul into putting on his tux and serving us appetizers throughout the event? Hmmmm….. it is a stretch. You will just have to come see for yourself!
Now back to that card I want to detail for you.
Stamp Set: All That You Are
Tools: Rectangle Stitched Framelits, Stamp A Ma Jig Sheet, Stamparatus
Card Base: Gorgeous Grape 5 1/2″ X 8 1/2″ Scored at 4 1/4″
First Layer: Gingham Gala DSP in Highland Heather 4″ X 5 1/4″
Top Layer: Whisper White 3 3/4″ X 4 7/8″
Paper for stamping all the images to be cut out: Whisper White 4 1/4″ X 5 1/2″, Stamp, color and fussy cut, except the greeting – it is cut with the stitched rectangle framelit:
- 1 medium flower
- 1 small flower, put a yellow center in the flower to match the rest of the flowers; if you don’t have a dot, punch a bit of yellow with a 1/8″ hole punch
- 4 single leaves – two for the front flower, two for the inside flower in the box
- 3 six leaf stems – Color outside the lines with your Stampin’ Blend and fussy cut to leave green around the black
- 1 multi flower stem
- Greeting – leave a 1 1/4″ X 1 3/4″ corner of the sheet to stamp Happy Birthday (or grab another scrap of white)
Window Sheet for mounting greenery: 1/4″ X 8″ Cut to length for each piece as you fill your box.
Stampin’ Blends – Highland Heather, Old Olive, Daffodil Delight
Embellishments: Ribbon 7″ X 2; I wrap one ribbon around the top layers, the white and the DSP, and then tie a bow with the other length and adhere with a glue dot. The bow holds the ribbon in place a bit better. It is the retired Sale A Bration organdy ribbon. If you attend the craft sale you might be able to buy some…. hint hint. I also used retired glitter enamel dots. New colors of glitter dots are in the catalog!
Inside Layer: Whisper White 5 1/4″ X 8″ Scored at 4″ but do NOT fold on the score line until after the images are stamped on the left first and then the right hand side of the score line. You need the score line for positioning the stamp.
Box: Whisper White 2″ X 8″; Score at 2″ – 4″ – 6″; Use your cutter and shave 1/16″ off each end; burnish all the score lines really well with your bone folder.
Box Flaps X 2: Gingham Gala DSP, 2 3/4″ X 2″ minus 1/6″ so 1 15/16″ to be technical, score the flaps at 2″ ; fold and use a dimensional to hold the fold in place.
Box Strips X 2: Whisper White 1/2″ X 4″ , score at 1″ and 3″ and yes, shave 1/16″ off the ends. The score line takes room and we need to adjust everything for the score lines by shaving off a bit on the ends. Z fold the strips and burnish your score lines. (That means rub the folds really well!) Now adhere your strips inside your box, one strip just down from the top and the second strip right below the first strip). The penciled words say “Glued Down” to show you where to glue the strips. I used Tear and Tape. Place a second piece of Tear and Tape on the other end of the Z strip facing up, remove the backing and then fold the sides over to perfectly adhere the box to the strips so that your card lays flat.
Now your box should look like this with cross pieces to attach your greenery and flowers. The sides are being held with a yellow sticky note for the picture. When you are through stamping your inside images those two sides will be glued on either side of the score line in the middle of your card. I used Tear and Tape to adhere them.
Put your box aside for now and stamp and color your images with Tuxedo Memento black ink.
Stamp your outside image and your image on the left side of the inside first.
Now stamp the inside mirror image by using the Stamparatus and the plastic sheet from the Stamp A Ma Jig. Secure the plastic sheet to the Stamparatus with magnets and stamp the image twice to get lots of ink. Carefully position your sheet on the right side of the inside layer matching the left image and then burnish really really well with your finger or your bone folder or both! You must hold the sheet firmly with one hand while you burnish with the other so the sheet doesn’t shift and give you a double image. Use the black Stampin’ Up! marker to darken any lines that need it. Memento ink and the marker are water based so you can color the images with the alcohol based Stampin’ Blends without smearing the black. I wish I would have tilted the bottom of the stamp a little more to the right in making my mirror image so that the green leaf was outside the box like the left hand side.
Note: Other mirror image techniques use the silicone sheet, plumber’s gasket or the flat side of a photopolymer stamp. Our flower image was too big for a photopolymer stamp and you can’t see through plumber’s gasket so a silicone sheet or the Stamp A Ma Jig sheet work best. If you don’t have a Stamparatus, place the stamp face up, ink it well and then place the silicone sheet on top of the inked stamp and burnish with your fingers.
The Happy Birthday rectangle greeting is popped up with dimensionals.
The medium flower on the front has two leaves attached with glue dots and then it is popped up so it sits at the edge of the greeting.
The greenery and flower in the box are mounted with glue dots to a 1/4″ strip of window sheet in various lengths and then the window sheet is adhered to the strips with glue dots.
At club, we decided it needed something more so we added butterflies!
Do you like the butterflies? They are from the Sale A Bration Designer Series Paper and punch out with the butterfly punch. I hope you stocked up on this paper!
If you want to send a bouquet of flowers in sympathy for someone passing this is the perfect card with a greeting from the “Kindness and Compassion” stamp set:
Comfort and Healing words are in “Flourishing Phrases”. The greetings go together perfectly and yet are in different sets!

Let It Ride Z Fold

I have one more card to post from my April card class. This one uses the Let It Ride stamp set and is a case of Kim Baker at www.kims-kreative-korner.blogspot.com.
Stamps: Let It Ride, High Tide (birds), Barn Door, Crackle Paint
Tools: Sliding Door Framelits Dies, Pinewood Planks Embossing Folder,
Inks: Tuxedo Black, Crumb Cake, Garden Green, Soft Sky Blue
Stampin’ Blends: Dark & Light Soft Suede, Light Smoky Slate (hooves)
Special Technique: Sponging with saran wrap. I wadded up a piece of saran wrap and put it in one of those big black desk clips. I masked off the separation between sky and meadow and masked off the horse. I stamped the sky, changed saran wrap and switched the mask on the meadow to the sky and then stamped the meadow in green. It gave the card a textured sort of sponging and took much less time. Looks a lot like grass don’t you think?!
I used the Stamparatus to stamp the horse (and needed it) so I could stamp a second time and press a little extra on the mane. I triple stamped the trees using the Stamparatus so they would be a deep green and then moved the hinge on the Stamparatus and did a couple of shadow stamps to create a forest.
Dimensions: Note – the layers are flush to the bottom
- Crumb Cake: 11″ X 4 1/4″, Score at 2 3/4″ and 5 1/2″; Make a pencil mark 2 1/8″ down at the left hand side of the front and cut diagonally from that mark to the 2 3/4″ score line
- Real Red: 5 3/8″ X 4 1/8″, Score at 2 5/8″; Make a pencil mark 2 1/16″ down on the left hand side of the front and cut diagonally from the mark to 2 5/8″ score line. Emboss with the Pinewood Plank embossing folder
- Very Vanilla: 5 5/16″ (5 1/4 + 1/16″) X 4 1/8″
- Crumb Cake: 3″ X 4″ for the gate; stamp and cut the entire barn door then cut in half
- Black Scrap: 2″ X 2″ for hardware on the door
- Red Strip: 5/8″ X 2 1/2″, emboss with the Pinewood Plank, roll the paper with your fingers to create the look of the front of a post, place an adhesive dimensional strip down the middle to adhere; adhere a bit down from the top so you don’t see the adhesive.
Stamp your name on the back and send to your favorite horse lover!

Tea Together Bendi Card

May is zooming along and April projects are yet to be posted. To those of you waiting anxiously for some directions, thank you for your patience, and to those still looking for Mother’s Day inspiration I have a card or two that just might work.
I have seen several ‘Bendi Cards’ on Pinterest and when I saw Sara Levin’s Tea Together Bendi card I wanted to try it. She has a video at theartfulinker.com.
For those whose beloved mothers have passed away, the ‘Tea Together’ stamp set has an additional stamp that says “Love is a warm cup of tea”. A perfect saying for all those dear friends with whom we share a cup of tea and a listening ear!
Stamp Set: Tea Together, Amazing Life (for the corners on the back)
Designer Series Paper (DSP): Petal Promenade, Floral Romance, and Gold Foil Sheet
Dies: Tea Time Framelits (Pot and Cup), In The Woods (curves on the bendi arms), Be Mine Stitched Framelits (hearts), Sunshine Wishes ( Love), Celebrate You ( You). The club ladies also used the Happy Birthday framelit for an alternative saying.
Ink: Versa Mark, Old Olive
Tools: Gold Embossing Powder, Spritzer with Frost White Paint (Wink of Stella does the same), Tufted Embossing Folder,
Embellishments: 6″ of gold and white 1/8″ Tea Room ribbon
Card Base: Blushing Bride, 5 1/2″ X 4 1/4″
Layer 1: Old Olive, 5 1/4″ X 4 1/8″ – note: this layer has a 1/8″ border on the top and sides but is flush to the bottom. Lay this piece landscape on the Stampin Trimmer at 1 1/2″ from the left and cut from 2″ to 3 5/8″ to make a tab for the bendi arm, then run through the Big Shot with the Tufted embossing folder. (Alternatively, you could make your large bendi arm with its tab and lay the tab 1 1/2″ from the left edge and place pencil marks on the old olive layer at the widest parts of the tab and then cut.)
Bendi Arms:
Old Olive, 5 1/2″ X 4 1/4″ , Score at 1/2″ in landscape then turn to portrait and cut at 2 1/2″. You now have an arm that is 2 1/2″ X 5 1/2″ and an arm that is 1 3/4″ X 5 1/2″. The large arm is at the right side of the front and the small arm is at the left.
Place tear and tape on the 1/2″ scored section on the side that will wrap around the tufted old olive layer. This will help you keep from mixing up the arms. Oops, I mixed them up in the picture! The small arm goes to the left!
Score 3/8″ on the unscored side of the arms. Make a tab out of the 3/8″ scored edge by marking lightly with a pencil 1/2″ from the top and 1/2″ from the bottom of each arm. Fussy cut a tab on each arm by cutting a slight diagonal from the pencil mark to the edge of the arm. The larger arm will have a 1 1/2″ tab and the smaller arm will have a 3/4″ tab.
DSP for Bendi Arms: Petal Promenade 4 1/2 + 1/16″ (4 9/16″) X 1 3/4″ Small Arm, 4 1/2 + 1/16″ (4 9/16″) X 2 1/2″ for Large Arm. I know, I know, crazy measurements but we don’t want a green border where the small arm goes in to the large arm.
Cut both the DSP and the Bendi Arms at the same time to have a matching curve – the framelit will handle two layers. I used the curved die from the ‘In The Woods’ framelit set. Or fussy cut, making sure the curve on the small, left hand arm goes up at the right side where you will attach the teapot. If it is cut too narrow at the right side you won’t have room for the teapot above the cup. (yep-made that mistake!) Slide the DSP flush to the bottom of each arm giving you a border at the top and adhere. This picture shows the backside of the teapot and how important it is to curve up the bendi arm to give room to attach the teapot.
You have already made the slit for the large arm to slide into the Old Olive layer, now you need to make a slit in the large arm for the small arm to slide into. Lay the large arm on your stampin’ Trimmer at 2 1/2″ from the right edge (this includes the 1/2″ scored for the fold). Cut a slit from 1 1/4″ to 2″.
Work your two bendi arms into a curve with your fingers to break down the paper fibers so the arms curve easily.
Adhere the arms to the Old Olive layer. (Earlier you put tear and tape on the side that wraps around).
Now adhere the entire front to the Blushing Bride back. I used Tear and Tape for strength. Remember you do not have a bottom border, it is flush.
Teapot and Cup: Floral Romance DSP, 3 1/2″ X 12″ ; Stamp two pots and two cups with Old Olive ink. Cut with the framelits and then stamp with Versa Mark and gold emboss a large flower on the teapot and the small buds on the cups. I gold embossed both cups and both teapots so I could choose the best for the top. Spritz the cups and teapots or paint with Wink of Stella.
Teapot: Top layer has handle, base, lid cut off. Pop up on whole teapot with dimensionals.
Teacup: Top layer has handle, base, back of cup cut off. Pop up on the whole cup with dimensionals.
Both the teacup and the teapot are mounted on the small arm. Start by adhering the teacup 3/4″ from the left on the small bendi arm with glue dots. Now lay your bendi arms flat and mount the teapot on the top right edge of the arm tilting it to make sure no part goes outside the Blushing Bride layer so that it fits inside the envelope. Use a glue dot to put the hearts between the two layers of the tea cup and pull the tea cup handle in front of the teapot. The hearts are behind the teapot. Both the hearts and the teapot “float” with very little adhesive. Note the Dimensionals on the very bottom of the back of the teapot.
Embellish: Gold Foil, 2 1/2″ X 4″ Cut – love (Sunshine Wishes Framelit), – you (Celebrate You Framelit), and 9 hearts (on right hand side of Be Mine Stitched framelit). One of the punched out hearts was put between the words with a little bow underneath. The 9 open hearts are placed between the two layers of the cup to look like steam.
Embellish the back of the Blushing Bride with an Old Olive strip 7/8″ X 5 1/2″ and a Petal Promenade DSP strip 3/4″ X 5 1/2″. Use the corner stamps from the Amazing Life stamp set to make a nice corner with gold foil accent.
This special fold card is worth all the work when your mother or friend is astonished by your creation!!

Magic Shutter Easter Card & Mother’s Day Card

My Easter card this year was the Magic Shutter Card. There are many videos on pinterest by that name, though I found if I prop my smart phone up on a stand, I can scroll through the dimensions on a written post like this one as I construct the card. Then there is no stopping and starting a video and trying to take notes, just tap the screen and scroll to the next step. Do you like doing that?
The Delightful Daisy Designer Series Paper (#144137) matched with Wisteria Wonder card stock (#122922) does all the work of making the card beautiful. As you open the card the shutters open like the shutters on a camera for a great “ooooo….” moment. One designer put a picture of her child behind the shutters. With Teeny Tiny Wishes (#127802) this card could say Happy Mother’s Day or Happy Graduation or any of the other tiny wishes.
- The base is Thick Whisper White cardstock cut at 8 1/2″ X 5 1/2″ and scored at 2 1/8″ and 6 3/8″ Tip: After scoring the card base, gently fold the scores bringing the two sides to the middle to exactly match and then hold them in place and use your bone folder to firmly burnish the score lines.
Next let’s make the skinny panels on the fronts and the inside right and left. They are all four the same size. (Note: DSP means Designer Series Paper.)
- Wisteria Wonder = 1 7/8″ X 5 1/4″ make 4
- Delightful Daisy DSP = 1 5/8″ X 5″ make 4
Attach the DSP to the Wisteria Wonder layer and then attach each to the base.
Now let’s make the inside middle panel but it won’t be attached until after the shutters are attached.
- Wisteria Wonder = 3″ X 5 1/4″
- Delightful Daisy DSP = 2 3/4″ X 5″
Attach the DSP to the Wisteria Wonder. The circle in the middle is cut out with a 2 1/2″ layering circle framelit (# 141705) or the retired 2 1/2″ punch. Cut your circle out just slightly above middle. Tip: If you are using a punch, punch out a template on a sticky note and put it on your card panel to guide where you punch. Come down from the Wisteria Wonder top 1 1/4″ which will give you 1 1/2″ at the bottom of the circle cut out.
- Stamp the greeting on a Whisper White Strip 3 1/2″ X 1″ and punch it out with the Bow Builder punch (#137414). Attach it to the center of the circle cut out. The cut out will show behind the shutters so choose what you want to show, or match, as you glue on the greeting. Draw around the greeting with a Wisteria Wonder marker or sponge the greeting edges before gluing to the circle cut out.
You are not going to attach the middle panel yet, but you need to use it to guide where you glue the circle cut out. Hold the panel in place with a sticky note, put glue on the back of your circle cut out with the greeting, and carefully press your circle directly through the opening. Put the panel aside as you make the shutters.
Shutters:
- Wisteria Wonder = 4″ X 3 1/2″ Make two. Mark the center of one piece by coming down 1 3/4″ on the short side and over 2″ on the long side. Use a ruler and draw a line from the middle mark to the top and bottom corners on the short side. Cut out this triangle which you can then use for cutting the other shutter piece. (Save your template for future cards.)
Clip the pointy ends off the shutters. Score the uncut side at 1/2″.
Fold your score line and burnish well then unfold it and place the shutter right along the edge of the fold on the base. Put a piece of sticky tape on the 1/2″ edge.
Remove the sticky tape cover and then fold the side over pressing it onto the sticky tape.
Repeat on the other side. Layer the shutter’s points with one point on top of the other shutter and one point below.
Most of the cards online use a belly band but I prefer a ribbon that stays attached. I used the retired ribbon punch and punched the edge of the fold on each side. The Pretty Label punch (#143715) would work almost as well. Close each side and punch a little slot in the Whisper White base. I marked 1/2″ up from the bottom with a pencil so both sides would be in line.
Run the ribbon (20″) through the slots. Now you are ready to mount the middle panel. Place an Adhesive Foam Strip (#141825) at the very top of the panel and the very bottom of the panel and then mount the panel over your shutters and ribbon. (You could use the Stampin’ Dimensionals as well but it would take quite a few.)
After the inside was done, I put pearls on each end and tested to see if they would interfere with the shutters. They didn’t –so it worked!
The Card Front
The “Celebrate” thinlit was a Sale A Bration free product that will be available in the new catalog June 1st!
- Three “celebrates” were cut out – two with Wisteria Wonder 3″ X 4 1/4″ and one with Thick Whisper White 1 1/2″ X 4 1/4″. The purples were glued on top of each other and the white was offset a little. I used Tombow liquid glue and drew a thin line of glue on the letters – counted to twenty to let it get tacky- and then glued it on. If you wait just those twenty seconds the glue won’t gush out on your project.
The butterfly is stamped with the “You Move Me” stamps (#144002) and cut out with the “Move Me Thinlits” (#143732).
- Whisper White 1 1/2″ X 3 1/2″ will do both the butterfly and the He Has Risen greeting. Stamp the butterfly first with the solid stamp in Crushed Curry and then stamp the wing detail in Tangerine Tango. (I love two step stamping sets, and the butterfly thinlits even have antennae!) I used a Tangerine Tango marker to draw a thin line on the antennae then attached the little beauty with a glue dot under one wing.
- The greeting is from the retired “Easter Message” stamp set and cut with a Stitched Shape Framelit (#145372).
My Mother’s Day card uses the current Lovely Words Thinlits (#143733) and the Whisper White 1/4″ Organza Ribbon from the Occasions Catalog Page 23 (#145590). The “For You” greeting is from the So Many Shells stamp set (#143695).
The little heart is from the Subtles Enamel Shapes (#141679).
After I had taken pictures I added another heart on the greeting and one down in the bottom left.

Hearts Come Home
Hello Stamping Friends,
Today I send you the Hearts Come Home Christmas card I designed. I am sure you all have your cards made and mailed so you may want to consider these products for next year! Imagine being that far ahead…. so Merry Christmas and may your heart find its home in the Father as your family returns home to celebrate with you!
I enjoy this card style with its flap on the front that reveals all the layers on the inside to make an eye pleasing card.
The stamp set and framelits are on page 39 of the Holiday catalog, bundled for a 10% discount- wood #146065, clear #146068.
The inside greeting and the bow are from Holly Berry Happiness, pg. 118 of the Annual Catalog – #142061
The medallion is made with the hearts square from Window Box Thinlits and then cut with the #3 Regular Circle Framelit and backed by a red foil circle cut with the same framelit and offset just a little.
Card Base – Thick Whisper White, 7 3/4″ X 4 1/4″ Score at 5 1/2″
Red Foil Inside Layer – 4″ X 5 1/4″
Top Layer Inside – Regular Whisper White, 3 3/4″ X 5″ First, stamp the greeting and run through the Big Shot to cut out the village, then emboss with the Softly Falling Embossing Folder #139672. Pull back slightly on the village pieces to make them stand out.
First Layer of the outside panel – Red Foil – 2″ X 4″
Second Layer of the panel – Regular Whisper White – 1 3/4″ X 3 3/4″ – Embossed with the Softly Falling Embossing Folder
First Layer of the outside flap – Red Foil – 4 1/4″ X 3″
Second Layer of the flap – Regular Whisper White – 4 X 2 3/4″ Stamp the greeting close to the right edge so you have room for the church. After stamping, emboss with the Softly Falling Embossing Folder.
Third Layer of the flap – Village Cut out – regular Whisper White – 4 1/2″ X 3″ The trick here is to line your framelit up so the tree on the right side of the house is just at the right edge of the paper. The framelit will not reach to the left edge so you will fussy cut to the edge and then you will cut off the tree at the right hand side and mount it at the edge of the left hand side, covering up the dent made by your framelit. The goal is to move the church to the right to leave room for the medallion.
Behind the scene – Red Foil – 4 1/2″ X 3″ – use the same alignment as you did with the white top layer detailed above.
Medallion – Red Foil – 2″ X 2″ Cut with #3 circle framelit, (old set) – 1 1/2″ circle framelit in the new set. The Window Box Thinlits dies #142762 is used with a 2″ X 2″ piece of regular Whisper White. The hearts are cut and then they are cut again with the circle framelit.
The bow is white embossed with the Holly Berry Happiness #142061 outline bow stamp on red foil – 1 3/4″ X 1 1/2″ and punched with the Holly Berry Builder Punch #141843.
A touch of grey on the bell topped with the Wink of Stella Clear Glitter Brush #141897 finishes up your card!
