Mystery Card Challenge #11
Hello Stamping Friends,

I have another Mystery Card for you today. Our club members (and guests) meet by Zoom on the last Tuesday of each month and share the cards we have been making along with the swaps we have received, and then some choose to do a Mystery Card challenge. I send out the card cuts ahead of time, everyone chooses colors and papers and greetings and then I walk them through how to put the Mystery Card together.

Here are the ones I made followed by the cards made by those who joined me on Zoom!
I used the Tasteful Labels Dies for the front greeting layers with a Thank You from the ‘Handsomely Suited’ stamp set. The Wishing You The Very Best greeting is in the ‘Friends Are Like Seashells’ stamp set and the STAMPING sentiment is in the ‘Stamping Your Way To The Top’ stamp set. The Designer Series Paper is from a Sale A Bration (SAB) 12 X 12 paper pack. The papers were just beautiful this year. I hope you have more than one pack in your stash!
Joy Meadows used a different DSP from the same 12 X 12 SAB pack and used Glittered Organdy Ribbon. I like how she put a little piece of the ribbon on the top of the insert!
Sharon Fincham added extra layers and used the greeting from ‘Hey Girlfriend’ with beautiful Organdy Striped Ribbon!
. Lori Moore used paper from a different pack of Sale A Bration DSP and cut flowers from the Pretty Perennials stamp set (with dies) in the Jan-June mini catalog and layered the flowers on a Tasteful Labels die.
. Jo Brooks had a designer series paper with a white back so she stamped a design to add beauty! She used the Story Label punch for the greeting.
Do we sell those pretty ribbons?
Yes, Sal, we do and they are carrying forward in the new catalog that starts May 4! There is a wonderful pack of Baker’s Twine in the new catalog as well.
Yes, again! It is a privilege of being a demonstrator and we will be able to preorder from the new annual catalog April 1 so we can prepare for our events.

Easter Swap Cards
Hello Stamping Friends,
HAPPY EASTER!! What a joyous time as we celebrate that Jesus is alive and He provided the sacrifice for all our sins!!
I will share my Easter swap card and the swap cards from the club. Jo and Sharon sent their April swap cards early so I have extra cards for you to enjoy!
The lily is the inside petals of the Poinsettia Place DSP we had in the last mini catalog.
I used several retired and retiring products knowing the message was more important than product presentation.
The base is Purple Posy which will retire May 3 but the Ornate Layers Dies do not retire so that is good news.
Recipe:
Note: DSP is an acronym for Designer Series Paper
- Stamp Sets: Easter Message, Teeny Tiny Wishes, His Grace.
- Ink: Gorgeous Grape, Memento Black.
- Dies: Ornate Layers, Stitched Rectangle Framelits, Detailed Bands (oval), Banner Blooms (stem).
- Embossing Folder: Tasteful Textile 3D or Subtle.
- Base: Purple Posy, 8 1/2 X 5 1/2, Scored at 2″, 3″, 5 1/2″ and 6 1/2″. Note: This is 3/8 inch more than a standard card but I found it was easy to fold our standard envelope just 3/8″ more to send the card. This size allowed the card to have a nice background for the Ornate borders without the lacy edges hanging over.
- Side Layers (X2): Plain Oh So Ombre purple, 2 (minus a hair) X 5 1/2. The score line creates the need for just a hair less than the 2″ side. I used the darker at the bottom and cut 1/2″ off the dark bottom of the 6 X 6 DSP to start (you will use part of this piece later so don’t toss it).
- Side Ornate Border (X2): Very Vanilla, 2 X 5, Die cut with Ornate Border.
- Inside Layer of Side Ornate Border (X2): Oh So Ombre circles on purple DSP, 1 X 4.
- Top Ornate Border: Very Vanilla, 5 3/4 X 2 3/4, Die Cut with Ornate Border.
- Inside Layer of Top Ornate Border: Plain Oh So Ombre Purple DSP, 3 5/8 X 1 1/2, Cut this piece in half lengthwise (3/4″) for each side of cross and then place both halves in your paper cutter at the same time to cut 1″ off the lighter end so that you have two matching pieces that are 1 X 3/4 and two pieces that are 2 5/8 X 3/4. Glue these 4 pieces to the edges of the wood tone paper leaving a 3/8″ cross.
- Cross: Natural Touch Specialty Paper, 1 7/8 X 4, glue this to the Ornate Border.
- Base of cross: Plain Oh So Ombre, 1/2 X 1 7/8, Use a piece of the dark end that you cut off, glue this piece to the Ornate Border leaving the same border as the top.
- Once all your pieces are glued to the Very Vanilla Ornate Border, run the layer through an embossing folder. I used Tasteful Textiles for this one but switched to the Subtle 3D embossing folder for the others I made to make the texture more — well — subtle! Glue this directly to the middle.
- Greetings: Very Vanilla Strip, 1 3/4 X 8 1/2, stamp the dove and John 3:16 from His Grace stamp set, He Is Not Here from Easter Message Stamp Set, and Happy Easter from Teeny Tiny wishes on the vanilla strip. Fussy cut the dove, and use the Stitched Rectangle to cut the two side greetings and the oval from the Detailed Bands dies to cut He is Not Here.
- Lily: Poinsettia Place DSP, fussy cut the inside petals of one of the poinsettias or cut one of the small poinsettias in the paper and add an extra petal since lilies have six petals.
- Greenery: Garden Green, 1 1/2 X 2, Die cut two stems using the solid stem in Banner Blooms. Attach to the back of the lily and then pop up the lily in the middle of the cross.
- Dove: Very Vanilla, fussy cut from the strip shown at greetings, color the branch green and pop up above cross.
- Embellshments: Heart Charm, use Tombow on the flat side and let it sit to get good and tacky then attach. I also added three rhinestones here and there.
The three greetings, the lily, and the dove are all popped up with dimensionals, all the other pieces are glued down. Try not to get glue on the sides of the ornate borders so they look a bit lacy. I put Tombow glue in the middle back of the ornate pieces and then use a scrap piece of cardstock to spread the Tombow glue just to the edge of the middles.
How did something that looks so simple turn into so many words?
I know, Sal, but I like to add all the little tips that can help someone else make the card; especially knowing that I am that someone and might want to make half a dozen more.
Let’s look at some swaps.
Jo Brooks used Mountain Air and His Grace stamp sets with the Majestic Mountains dies, the Cross of Hope Dies and the Word Wishes dies. I love how she sponged the background!

Sharon Fincham used the Wreath Builder dies for her Easter card swap, the dies make perfectly shaped eggs!
Lucille’s swap is the cutest little bunny!
Joy Meadow’s swap card looks quite springy with the Hydrangea Hill Designer Series Paper. She said this fun fold is quite easy to make; we will have to try it someday.
Jo Brook’s March swap was an adorable St. Patrick’s Day card using the Word Wishes Dies and a fun gnome/leprechaun!
Lori Moore’s swap uses the Pretty Perennials stamp set in the JJ mini. The set has the big ‘happy’ word and then little words you can use with it- ‘birthday’, ‘mail’, ‘for you’, ‘you make me’, ‘sending lots of’.
Suzi Walker used the Pretty Perennials set, as well, with the matching Perennial Petals Dies. The DSP on the white is embossed with the Tasteful Textile 3D Embossing Folder. I am longing for spring flowers like these:

This card is cased from Mary Deatherage at Stamps N Lingers with changes to the greeting and the greenery, the number of butterflies and the inside but essentially the same.

- Base: Misty Moonlight, 5 1/2 X 8 1/2, score at 4 1/4
- Border Layer: Basic Black, 4 X 5 1/4, you will build your card on this layer and then pop it up on the base
- Top Layer: Butterfly Bijou, 5 1/8 X 3 3/4, die cut with second largest Stitched With Whimsy Die and then cut at 1 1/2 to make two top pieces glued directly to the Basic Black with a 1/8″ gap. This gives a 1/16″ border.
- Greeting: Basic White, 3 1/4 X 2 1/4, die cut with second largest Stitched Shape Oval Die
- Greenery: Mint Macaron, 1 3/4 X 3 1/2, stamped with a Forever Fern stamp and die cut with Forever Flourishing Die
- Inside Layer: Basic White, 5 1/8 X 4, Die cut with the 2 3/4 X 1 1/4 Stitched With Whimsy Die to make a frame for the inside greeting. Two small butterflies are fussy cut from a sheet of the Butterfly Bijou DSP.

February Mystery Card #10

Hostess code for March: A3VBV4QZ
On the last Tuesday of each month I have a Zoom meeting to chit chat with one another, talk about the swap cards we made and do a Mystery Card Challenge. Those challenges started up during COVID and were a fun way to craft together on Zoom.
Does that mean you won’t be doing Mystery Cards in the future?
Good question, Sal! We have one last rotation on this club in April (retirement list!) and then we start all over with a new rotation and new plans for meeting depending on the wishes of the members. Give me a shout out if you want to be part of the new club!
January’s Mystery Card is a great one for using up those little strips of paper you have left from a 6 X 6 DSP after you use a 5 X 4 piece for the front of a card.

Lucille made a fun card with bumble bees on blue! So cute !!

Jo made an Easter card! The greeting is from ‘Fable Friends’ stamped and punched with the ‘Story Label’ punch.
I made a thank you card using scraps left over from the Hydrangea Hill paper and Flirty Flamingo:
. I decided to embellish it a little and add another quarter sheet of black on the back of the Flirty Flamingo. I just shaved off a little on each of the sides to give a slight border. I used Versa Mark to make a little flower using a stamp from the ‘Lots of Heart’ stamp set. The Matte Black Dots are on page 11 of the JJ Mini. The scalloped Basic White is cut using the Stitched So Sweetly Dies. The ‘thank you’ and the ‘you’re all heart’ are both from the ‘Lots of Heart’ stamp set.
. Since I had left over Sale A Bration DSP from another project, I made another card using the same ‘Lots of Heart’ stamp with all the little dots, I connected the dots to make a smiley face and stamped greetings from the same stamp set. The ‘Thinking of You’ is from the ‘Happy Thoughts’ stamp set and punched out with the ‘Tailored Tag’ punch.
. The ‘Lots of Heart’ stamp set is so versatile you won’t want to label it as just a valentine stamp set. For this next card I used Night of Navy for the base and background layers and I used the edge of my Night of Navy marker to barely color the edge of the greeting.

February Club Swaps

March’s hostess code is: A3VBV4QZ
Check out these beautiful swap cards made by the club members and come back tomorrow to see the Mystery Card #10 that is a fun part of being in club. Each month I make cards and deliver kits to the club members; then we gather on the second Tuesday of the month at 9:30 via Facebook Live to construct the kits. On the last Tuesday of the month we meet via Zoom to share our swap cards, chat a bit, and do a Mystery card challenge. I send the instructions for the card and then each person gathers the supplies and we put the cards together on the Zoom meeting. Each person chooses their own color of cardstock and designer series paper and it is so fun to see all the different cards made with the same set of measurements.
Before you show and tell February, shouldn’t you tell them about March?
I almost forgot! We are ready to celebrate and get together again. Since March is a non-club month I am having my first in-house stamping event to stamp two cards with the Hey Birthday Chick bundle and two cards with the Butterfly Brilliance Bundle – (available to purchase March 2). Space is limited to four people but there are four sessions. Stampers will each be seated on one side of a large table so we are still distanced from each other. Cost is $15. How many of the members swapped?
We had six members swap and myself. Let’s start with Lori’s ‘Everything Is Rosy’ Gatefold Card. There was a ‘Rosy Suite’ that you could purchase last year and after it retired, the whole suite was in the clearance rack. I hope some of you were able to get this amazing set of products. The outside sentiment, flowers and Everything Is Rosy DSP are all from the suite. The inside sentiment is from the current ‘So Sentimental’ stamp set. Night of Navy is the base cardstock.
Next we have Jo’s card using the Flight of Fancy and Heartfelt stamp sets with gray for the base and a sponged white Layering Oval as well as Stitched Shapes and Be Mine Stitched Framelits. Inside has “so lucky to have a friend like you” in pink.
Suzi used the current JJ Mini Flowering Cactus Product Medley for her swap card on a layer of white card stock embossed with the Dainty Diamonds embossing folder. This medley has dies, twine, DSP-designer series paper, a lovely cactus stamp set and die-cut felt sheets. See page 9 of the JJ mini. There is also a refill kit!
Joy used the oh so beautiful heart from the Stitched Be Mine Dies which carried over to the Annual Catalog! If you were in club a couple years ago you will remember this beautiful DSP. Hopefully you have some in your stash.
Lucille’s card uses paper that is quite similar to our Forever Greenery DSP. The sentiment is from Stampin’ Up’s Quite Curvy Stamp set and the hearts are from her Framelits Heart Collection.
. Sharon has outdone herself once again with the Wreath Builder Dies and the Arrange A Wreath stamp set. I didn’t notice that little heart with the love cut out until I saw her card. I had to go see those dies (pg. 173).
. My card uses the ‘Floral Heart Dies’ In the JJ MIni page 12 and is a case of Kylie Bertucci with a bit different pink. The sentiment is from the ‘Always In My Hear’t coordinating stamp set. I die cut the floral heart in basic black and then cut another in Flirty Flamingo, popped the pink heart up with dimensionals over top of the black heart and then ‘paper pieced’ the little flowers with the Flirty Flamingo sections. The key is to use the double back adhesive on the card stock and a dryer sheet to keep the pieces together. Stay tuned for a future video on paper piecing.
. Recipe
- Base: Basic Black, 11 X 4 1/4 scored at 5 1/2
- Layer: Basic White, 5 1/4 X 4
- Floral Heart: Basic Black, 4 1/2 X 4 1/4, place the cardstock on a piece of double back adhesive sheet 4 X4 1/4, die cut with the Floral Heart Die
- Pink Heart and Flowers: Flirty Flamingo, cut a full piece of the Floral Heart Die and paper piece on top of the black or Die cut the heart with a 2 1/2 X 2 1/2 piece of Flirty Flamingo and (2) 1 X 1 pieces cutting just the flower portion. Use double back adhesive on the flowers and die cut on top of a dryer sheet to keep the pieces together.
- Greeting: Basic Black, 1 X 2 1/2, stamp the greeting in Versa Mark ink and heat emboss with white embossing powder. Hint: stamp your greeting at the top corner of your rectangle then fussy cut the bottom and sides.
- Embellish: Various, I used black ribbon, pink ribbon, or black ribbon on a Flirty Flamingo strip and three rhinestones

In the Floral Heart Dies is a cut out for just the flower so I cut it once in black and then again in Flirty Flamingo placing both on the adhesive sheets and a dryer sheet before cutting. The little hearts are in the coordinating ‘Always In My Heart’ stamp set. Purchased together, you would get a 10% discount. The Happy Valentines Day is from the ‘Heartfelt’ stamp set currently in the Annual catalog page 75. As catalogs retire, you can look at the date of the post and go to the catalog tab to find the catalog I refer to and see other examples.

Valentine Slimline Popup Card and a True Love DSP All Occasion Card

Thank you to those who were able to join me for yesterday’s Facebook Live! Here is the recording followed by pictured directions:
We have done front panel cards before but this one is a bit different because it has a ‘false’ bottom that does not attach to the panel. You put an extra piece of black cardstock at the bottom to give it the dimensional look (and a great way to line up the white inside piece).
So we really don’t need to watch the video, do we?!
Besides showing off the beautiful True Love Designer Series Paper, in the video I taught:
- how to make a three loop bow with your fingers- the video is a great way to learn and practice.
- how to use the edge pieces of your Designer Series Paper- obvious in the picture, but we sometimes forget.
- how to make a pop up slimline card with interesting folds that are a bit complicated to describe with words.
True Love Designer Series Paper Any Occasion Card
This card was cased from Peggy Noe of Pretty Paper Cards. I added the bow where she put a greeting and I used three flowers and an inside flower to remind us why we don’t throw away those scraps.
- Base: Basic Black, 7 3/4 X 4 1/4, score at 2 1/4 on the vertical
- Bottom Base: Basic Black, 2 X 4 1/4
- Panel: Basic Black, 1 3/4 X 4
- Top Border: Highland Heather, 2 X 4
- Bottom Border: Highland Heather, 1 3/4 X 4
- Top of the top: True Love Designer Series Paper, 1 3/4 X 3 3/4
- Top of the bottom: True Love Designer Series Paper, 1 1/2 X 3 3/4
- Top of the panel: Whisper White, 1 1/2 X 3 3/4
- Inside: Whisper White, 3 3/8 X 4
- Ribbon Strip: Whisper White, 1 X 3 3/8
- Message: Whisper White, 2 X 2, Cut with Tasteful Labels Circle or use a Merry Message
- Ribbon: Gorgeous Grape 3/8″ Sheer, 8″ to wrap the ribbon strip and 18″ for the three loop bow

The slimline envelope was purchased at Hobby Lobby but you could also use a legal envelope.

Slimline Valentine Pop Up Card

Good thinking, Sal, I saw the base for this card on Karen Aicken’s Painted Mountain Cards site. The ‘Many Hearts Dies’ , ‘Floral Heart Dies’, Hydrangea Hill Designer Series Paper and the Pastel Pearls were used.
- Base: Highland Heather, 3 1/2 X 8 1/2 and another piece 3 1/2 X 6 scored on the longside at 1/2″; fold on the score line and glue to the longer piece. The short side is the front.
- Front Border: Seaside Spray, 3 1/4 X 5 1/4. (the video uses Misty Moonlight)
- Front Layer: Hydrangea Hill Designer Series Paper, 3 1/8 X 5 1/8
- Right Side Border: Seaside Spray, 3 1/4 X 2 3/4 -or Misty Moonlight
- Right Side Top Layer: Hydrangea Hill Designer Series Paper, 3 1/8 X 2 5/8
- Heart Backing: Seaside Spray, 3 1/4 X 3 3/4 cut with the scalloped heart from the ‘Many Hearts Dies’
- Heart Front: Hydrangea Hill Designer Series Paper, Use the plain heart die from ‘Many Hearts Dies’ to cut a bouquet from the Designer Series Paper. There are two different designs as you can see by the heart inserts in the pictures, one is the muted, water color look and the other is a rich, bold hydrangea design.
- Greeting on the front right: Whisper White, 1 1/2 X 2 1/2, die cut with the ‘Stitched So Sweetly Die’ and stamp with “Be My Valentine” from the ‘Always In My Heart’ Stamp set using Gorgeous Grape Ink
- Inside Pop up base; Seaside Spray, 3 X 8 or Misty Moonlight
- Inside Top: Hydrangea Hill Designer Series Paper, 2 7/8 X 7 7/8
- Embellishments: 5 Pastel Pearls, 16″ White Twine wrapped around front and back as a belly band
Let’s make the inside pop up:
- Temporarily adhere your DSP Pop Up piece (2 7/8 X 7 7/8) to the Cardstock 3 X 8 piece. I use a touch of snail on each corner and then rub it with my finger so the oils in my finger take away some of the stickiness. Dotto is also a temporary adhesive. You want to cut both pieces together so the cuts line up nicely but you will pull off the top DSP piece to cut the fancy hearts with your dies. Make an arrow on your base and the back of your DSP to realign them after die cutting the hearts.
- Using your paper trimmer, start your cut 1/2″ down and 1″ over on the long side at the right and cut to within 1/2″ of bottom (7 3/4).
- now turn your paper to the other side and do the same, starting the cut 1/2″ down and 1″ over and cutting to within 1/2″ of bottom.
. - After you make both cuts, score the two attached pieces at 2″- 4″ -6″. Then score the little section at the very middle, 1/2″ over. You will reinforce those scores again later but you need to see that middle 4″ score to line up the hearts die.
- Separate your two pieces and put a piece of double back adhesive on the back of the DSP (page 162 of the AC).
- Die cut the hearts. I used the die from the ‘Many Hearts Dies’ for the middle, centering the very middle of the die on the middle of the DSP; four hearts on the right and four hearts on the left. The little row of hearts on the top and bottom are from the ‘Floral Heart Dies’. Both are in the JJ Mini.
- Remove the adhesive backing and attach the DSP to the pop up base. Paper piece the middle hearts in place.
- Run the piece through the cutting machine with no dies. This pushes the adhesive into the cardstock so the pieces stay well adhered.
- Rescore your pieces. 1/2″ at the middle sides and then at 2-4-6. The paper trimmer score blade works better than the Simply Scored to do this because you can line the edge exactly with the inch marks.
- Now you are ready to fold the pop ups. Start with the partial 1/2″ on each side as a valley fold-downward then take each strip and alternate valley, mountain, valley…..
Okay, now I see why the video is so important!
Yes, Sal, it is easier to understand while watching me do the folds, and you can stop the video, fold, and then restart the video.
- Train your pop up. You want the middle section mountains to go out when folded to even the bulk of the pop up.
- Now that you have it trained, let’s push all the folds back and make a half fold. You need to fold all the sections back down flat and fold the piece in half.
- Put adhesive on the back of your right hand side backwards C.
- Line the middle of the pop up just a couple hairs to the right of the middle fold of the base. It is bulky so you don’t want it directly on the fold.
- Now put adhesive on the back of the left hand side C.
- Fold the left side of the pop up on top of the glued down right hand side and then shut your base on the pop up to adhere the left side. This is critical for placement of the pop up.
- Retrain your folds!
Now you can layer up all your fronts, add a greeting and bling, tie twine around the middle for a belly band and prop it on your mantel to admire before you send it away to some very special person!
You always wanted to write a book. I think you are practicing on your stampers!
An editor would groan, but friends, if you ever see an error in my dimensions, please let me know so I can fix it. The recipe box is like a scrapbook of cards where you can click on one you like and get the dimensions even years later.

Well, not for this post, Sal. This post will highlight the swap cards and the Mystery Card #9. For those who are new to the blog, each month we have two events- one Facebook Live event on the second Tuesday of each month and one Zoom event on the last Tuesday of each month. Accordingly, the schedule for February is:

My event calendar shows the monthly Paper Pumpkin kit as a Facebook Live for the third Tuesday of the month but since the delivery times are so slow right now I haven’t received my kit in time to have the event.
. Why don’t you do a YouTube live whenever you get the kit?
That is a possibility! Especially with the January kit which has some beautiful valentine cards! Stay tuned!

Recipe:
Base: Either – Blackberry Bliss/Rococo Rose/Granny Apple Green/ Bermuda Bay, 8 1/2″X5 1/2″ scored at 4 1/4″
Starburst Base: Whisper White, 5 1/4″X4″, Mark the center bottom at 2 5/8″ to show the starting point of your strips
Starburst Strips: Oh So Ombre Designer Series Paper (DSP), 1 1/2″ X 6″, make sure your strips are cut to go vertically light to dark or dark to light. Cut each strip diagonally. Line the opposite corners in the track of the paper trimmer and cut. You will use 13 cut strips. Make a pile of 6 light to dark pieces and 6 dark to light pieces and use the 13th piece for the middle
Using liquid glue cover your Whisper White base. I used a sponge to spread Tombow so it didn’t have clumps of glue.
Place your 13th diagonal half with the point at the 2 5/8″ mark on your now ‘gluey’ piece of Whisper White. Work from that center piece alternating light and dark points. Work quickly so you can slide each piece tightly to the previous one before the glue gets hard to work with.
When done, turn the base over and burnish the back to make sure all the glue spreads evenly and the pieces are tight to base.
Now cut all those starburst pieces to the size of the base using the back of the base as a guide. Scissors work fine because you have the base to guide your cuts.
Note: The Oh So Ombre paper is 6″X6″ so you have 4 strips on each sheet. Each strip is cut diagonally making 8 strips per sheet of DSP so you need two sheets to make 13 strips. Do not cut the last 1 1/2″ strip diagonally – cut it in half horizontally to give you a nice 3/4″ strip for the inside of your card. You will have one starburst strip left over.
Star Top, Numbers and Scrolly at the bottom: Pearlescent Specialty Paper, 4 1/2″ X 4″. Use the double back adhesive paper just slightly less than that size and adhere it to the Specialty Paper, Die Cut your images, remove the five stars for the inside, and then place the die cut images on a piece of scrap cardstock and run them back through the Cut and Emboss machine to flatten the little dots that show up in the cuts and to adhere the images tightly to the adhesive sheet. Use a hat pin to remove the adhesive sheet backing from your die cut images by sticking it through the adhesive baking in the middle of a wide part. The stars and the scrolly are from the Stitched Stars Dies, the numbers are from the Playful Alphabet Dies; both are in the Annual Catalog. The Pearlescent paper is in the Mini JJ catalog.
Inside Happy New Year: Oh So Ombre Designer Series Paper, 1 1/4″ X 6″, Apply double back adhesive sheet to the back and then cut using Word Wishes Dies, trim off the ‘s’ on ‘years’ since you are not using the ‘day’ die. The stars are from the star cut out we made for the top. The Oh So Ombre paper doesn’t show the little dots from the die like the pearlescent paper so I didn’t need to run it back through the machine to flatten but you do need to burnish the pieces well to adhere them to the cardstock.
Good question, Sal. I do use that term often. It is a technical way of saying ‘rub’. Sometimes we use our fingers and sometimes we use the bone folder. Most often the term is used when we score a piece of cardstock and want the fold on the score line to be nice and crisp and lay down flat.
Let’s look at this month’s Mystery Card, shall we?
Base: Granny Apple Green
I used the Sale-A-Bration Flower & Field Designer Series Paper which is free with a $50 purchase.
I punched and layered two large daisies in Whisper White, one small daisy in Pool Party and one in Whisper White. Both the small and large punch are in the Annual Catalog.
The bee is from the Dandy Garden DSP in the Mini JJ Catalog, die cut with the Dandy Wishes Die.
The ribbon is the Ornate Garden Ribbon Combo Pack in the Annual Catalog (AC).
The jewel on the little heart is the “Flowers For Every Season Gem” in the AC.
The greeting is from the Many Messages bundle in the JJ catalog, page 35. What an awesome set of greetings all cut out at once with the die!

Beautiful cards! Though the construction was basic, the mystery was in the different designer series paper that each chose!

Lions & Dragons – Oh My!

Let’s have some fun with Lions (dandelions) and Dragons (dragonflies)!

Yesterday I was live on Facebook with January’s club cards. Each club member had kits with all the supplies so this time my presentation was different with just the construction of the card without going from the beginning to the end and listing all the sizes of the card cuts, so this blog post will fill in the gaps!
Dragonfly Z Fold Club Card Introducing The Dandy Garden Suite
This suite is on Page 25 of the JJ catalog (Jan-June mini)!
Recipe:
Base: Bumble Bee, 5 1/2 X 10 7/8, Lay the base horizontally at the 7 1/4″ mark and cut down 1 1/8 inch, then score the rest of the way.
Secondly, mark the left hand side down from the top at 3 3/8″ and cut the base from 1 1/8″ to the 3 3/8″ mark. (Note: the tip of the cut is at 1 1/8″).
Score the base at 3 5/8″ from the left. You now have two score lines: one at 3 5/8′ and one at 7 1/4″.
Your base is done!
Let’s mount our little dragonflies and the bumblebees on little strips of window sheets.
Window sheet strips (X2): 3/8″ X 1 1/4″
Bumblebees: Use the Dandy Wishes Dies little Bumblebee die to cut two bumblebees from the Dandy Garden DSP (Designer Series Paper). Color the back of the bumblebees with Mossy Meadow. Place glue dots on the top of one of the window sheets, one on the front and one glue dot on the back, and then adhere your bumblebees back to back. The “Garden Wishes” stamp set has a bumblebee image to stamp if you would rather have a stamp set than a die set.
Dragonflies: The Dandy Garden DSP has sheets that match up with the Dragonfly punch (which is bundled with the ‘Dragonfly Garden’ stamp set for a 10% discount) and you will punch out two matching small dragonflies and mount them on your window sheet strip with a glue dot on the window sheet front and on the back.
Back Layer of the Z fold: Dandy Garden DSP, full rectangle – 3 3/8″ wide X 5 1/4″ tall. The DSP is directional.
Middle Layer of the Z fold (which is on the back of the base): Dandy Garden DSP, Start with a piece of DSP, 3 3/8″ wide X 4 1/8″ tall, Mark down 1 1/8″ on the right hand side and cut from the tip of the left hand side to the mark on the right hand side. Flip your base over and place your bumblebee where he will be on top of a dandelion at the back when you fold the card flat. Use a glue dot to position the bumblebee and then adhere the DSP.
Front Layer of the Z fold: Dandy Garden DSP, 3 3/8″ wide X 3″ tall to start. Mark 1 1/8 ” down -this time on the left hand side and cut a diagonal from the tip of the 3″ to the 1 1/8″ mark. Before adhering, wrap your linen thread around the DSP and tie a bow.
Note: On both the middle and the front layer, you can place your DSP where it will go, and make your marks for your diagonal cuts without measuring so that if your diagonal cut is not quite perfect your layer will be and will have a nice 1/8″ border.
Greeting Border: Bumblebee, 3 1/4″ X 3 1/4″, cut with the Largest Square Stitched Shape Die (2 5/8″)
Greeting Top Layer: Whisper White, 2 1/2″ X 2 1/2″, cut with the 2nd largest Square Stitched Shape Die (2 1/8″). I stamped the greeting from Dragonfly Garden, “May Good Things Grow All Year Long”, in green, and then did a stamp off of the dragonfly cluster across the greeting in Bumble Bee ink.
Embellishments: One little ladybug mounted with a glue dot. 16″ of Mossy Meadow Braided Linen Trim.
Alternative Cut: Diagonal Z fold with the diagonal from the back to the front.
The base of this card uses just 1/2 of a piece of cardstock so you can make two cards from one sheet.
Base: Bumble Bee, 5 1/2″ X 10 7/8″ scored at 3 5/8″ and 7 1/4″ with a diagonal cut from left to right at the 5 1/2″ cut down to 1″ from the bottom on the right.
Note: I have a 1/8″ border on the right, left and tops but did not have a border on the bottom.
Back Layer: DSP, 3 3/8″ wide X 3 1/4 ” tall, cut diagonally left to right from the 3 1/4″ tip to 1 3/8″ down from the top.
Back Greeting: Shimmer White, 3 3/8″ wide X 1 7/8″ tall, For this greeting I stamped the “Thank You For Your Kindness” from Dragonfly Garden in blue and then added a punched out dragonfly.
Middler Layer– goes on the back of the base: DSP, striped in this case, 3 3/8″ wide X 3 7/8″ tall , diagonally cut from the right to the left from the tip to left marked at 1 1/2 “. Tip: place the top of your layer with a nice 1/8” border and trim the bottom since it is flush to the bottom.
Front Layer: 3 3/8″ wide X 2 3/8″ tall, cut diagonally from the left to the right marked at 1 3/8″ from the top. Now wait — don’t adhere yet.
Dragonfly: Dandy Garden DSP, punch two large dragonflies and mount them with glue dots on a strip of Window Sheet 3/8″ X 1 1/4″. Use another glue dot to adhere the window sheet to the front of the base.
After the Dragonfly is adhered – adhere your front layer.
Embellishments: Die cut a bumble bee from DSP and adhere to front; adhere a ladybug trinket with a glue dot to front; tie a little bow with 8″ of Mossy Meadow Braided Linen Trim and adhere it to the back.

Sand and Sea Club Cards Introducing The Sand & Sea Suite
This suite is on page 41 of the JJ catalog.
I used the Whale Of A Time Designer Series Paper instead of the paper in the suite so I had a smaller background behind the shells. The cards shown above have three different backgrounds from the Whale of a Time DSP:

Recipe:
Base: Pretty Peacock, 5 1/2″ X 8 1/2″, Scored at 4 1/4″
Layer 1: Whale of a Time DSP, 5 3/8″ X 4 1/8″
Layer 2: Garden Green, Start with 5 1/2″ X 4 1/4″ and cut with the largest Seaside Seashell Die to make a base.
Layer 3: Granny Apple Green, Start with 5 1/2″ X 4 1/4″ and cut with the largest Seaside Seashell Die, then cut out all the little vines and glue them to the Garden Green base. This gives you a nice contrast of greens. Note: you can cut into the seashells to give more area to adhere the vines since the seashells will be glued on top.
Layer 4: Pearlescent Specialty Paper, Start with 5 1/2″ X 4 1/4″ and cut with the largest Seaside Seashell Die, then cut out all the seashells and glue them on the base over the greenery.
Greeting: Shimmery White, Start with 1 X 2 1/2″, stamp the greeting, and then cut with the rectangle stitched die to make a perfectly sized rectangle. Cut one end, stop halfway, reposition the die on the other end and cut that half. I demonstrate this in the video.
Inside: Shimmery White, 5 3/8″X 4 1/8″
Inside strip: DSP cut from the same piece as the background, 5/8″ X 4 1/8″

I do so love fall! However, I would really like fall to come before winter, yet yesterday and today we have had snow here in Castle Rock, CO, so it looks like winter.
Maybe it is all those Christmas cards you are making that brought on winter.
Now Sal, let’s just call it coincidence and Colorado’s unpredictable weather, okay?
We have two fall cards for you today and a Facebook Live video if you prefer videos over words, though the recipes follow.
Someday I will teach Sal to push the ‘Go Live’ and ‘Start Streaming’ buttons so I can look at the camera. I have heard there is a way to edit the Facebook Lives and delete the first part so that is a skill I need to learn.

Simply Thankful
I am casing a card that Rosanne Mulhern of Heartfelt Stampin’ made last year but changing the products to current products and using the Mini Curvy Keepsakes dies to make a pumpkin instead of the Apple Builder punch she used.
- Stamp Set: Country Home
- Punches: Medium Daisy Punch, 3/8″ Circle Punch for the Black Eyed Susan
Dies:
- Mini Curvy Keepsakes Box Dies for the pumpkin and its stem
- Gathered Leaves Dies for the five leaves in different colors
- Banner Blooms Dies for the pumpkin vine
- Forever Flourishing Dies for the little crumb cake accents
- Rectangle Stitched Dies

Recipe for Simply Thankful:
- Base: Basic Black, 5 1/2 X 8 1/2 scored at 4 1/4.
- Barnwood Layer: In Good Taste Designer Series Paper (DSP), 4 X 5 1/4.
- Black Layer: 3 1/2 X 4 3/4 cut with the Rectangle Stitched Die; TIP: use wax paper between the die and the cardstock. Emboss the greeting in white slightly to the right and then use Black Stampin Dimensionals to adhere.
- Pumpkin: Pumpkin Pie Cardstock 2 1/4 X 2, make 2 with the Mini Curvy Keepsakes Die using just the handle section not the slot section of the die. Before trimming down to size and making the bottom and top circular, lay one section 1/4″ over top of the second section and score a line following the curve of the section. Repeat on the other side. Score the line, color it with a Pumpkin Pie Marker and then sponge it. Do the same on the second section if you want to choose between the two sections for which one looks best for the top. Cut the bottom and top of each section to shape the pumpkin. Sponge all the edges of both sections and down the middle of the top section. Cut one section in half and glue each half behind the front section.
- Pumpkin Stem: Cinnamon Cider, 2 X 7/8, Cut with the handle of the Die. (This can be run at the same time as the pumpkin sections.) Cut in half, trim off excess and use a crumb cake marker to add a few lines.
- Pumpkin Vine: Garden Green, 1 X 2, make 2 with the Banner Blooms Dies.
- Medium Leaf: Cajun Craze, 2 X 2, the leaves are all cut with the Gathered Leaves Dies. Sponge the veins lightly and then the edges on all the leaves with their corresponding inks.
- Medium Leaf: Old Olive, 2 X 2, sponge
- Large Leaf: Daffodil Delight, 2 X 2, sponge
- Large Leaf: Merry Merlot, 2 X 2, sponge
- Small Leaf: Mango Melody, 1 1/2 X 1 1/2, sponge
- Black Eyed Susan: Mango Melody, 2 X 2 for each Medium Daisy Punch. You need six punched flowers so a 2 X 8 plus a 2 X 4 strip will work. Sponge the center with Mango Melody. Adhere two together with a glue dot.
- Inside of flowers: Early Espresso, 1 X 3, Punch with 3/8″ or 1/2″ circle punch. Adhere with a glue dot.
- Inside Layer: Mango Melody 4 X 5 1/4
- Bottom Strip on Inside: In Good Taste Designer Series Paper (DSP), 4 X 1/2.
Now the fun part of creating your collage! Start with the pieces on top of the pumpkin and work to the back. I used glue dots- lots of glue dots!
Other options for making a pumpkin are the Apple Builder Punch or using five circles or five ovals to layer together.

Dies:
- Circle Die for the frame
- Poinsettia Die for the oak leaf greeting
- Sweet Silhouettes Die for the tree
- Dockside Dies for the grass and cattails
Recipe for Beautiful Moments:
- Base: Cajun Craze, 5 1/2 X 8 1/2 scored at 4 1/4.
- Aspen Grove Layer: Very Vanilla, 4 X 5 1/4, Embossed with the Woodlands Folder after the folder is inked on the indent side with Crushed Curry. I turn the ink pad upside down and tap it on the folder.
- Tree: Mango Melody, 3 1/2 X 5, die cut with the Sweet Silhouette Tree Die. Tip: Use two folded up dryer sheets underneath your cardstock to make removing the little bits quite easy since they stick to the dryer sheet. The tree trunk and limbs are colored with the Dark Soft Suede Stampin’ Blend. The far left side of the tree has a limb that will need cut off so you can attach the trunk of the tree with a glue dot at the bottom left behind the circle frame. (I glued that little branch in the inside of the card as you see above.) Adjust the tree so that all the leaves will be inside the card borders. When you are completely done, place a small amount of Tombow glue on the silicon sheet and use a toothpick to add bits of glue to the leaves to attach to the circle.
- Circle Frame: Cajun Craze 4 1/2 X 4 1/2, Die cut with two layered circle dies to create the frame. Sponge the inside and outside of the frame with Cajun Craze and mount the tree at the bottom left behind the circle. Use Stampin’ Dimensionals to pop up the frame. You will need a dimensional at the thickest part of the trunk of the tree.
- Green grass and cattails: Pear Pizzaz, 2 1/2 X 3; die cut two grass sections from the Dockside Die. Color the cattails with Early Espresso and sponge the grass with Crumb Cake to give it that end of the summer look.
- Moose: Early Espresso, 2 1/4 X 2, punched with the moose punch and sponged on the edges.
- Greeting: Very Vanilla, 2 1/4 X 1 1/2 , die cut with the leaf in the Poinsettia Dies. Stamp with the “collect beautiful moments” from the Beautiful Moments stamp set, sponge the edge with pumpkin pie, then add an orange rhinestone. Glue to the circle but add a tiny dimensional to the left edge to attach to the aspen grove layer.
- Inside: Very Vanilla, 4 X 5 1/4, the little tree limb is glued to the inside corner .

Paul, my DH, looks at these and says “another Karen card”. I keep telling him someday I will learn to make clean and simple cards but I always want to challenge myself. He suggested I call them Carin’ Cards to reflect a Caring Karen. He got a kiss for that! So I decided our team should be called Carin’ Crafters for the caring and sharing card makers that we are and yet a bit of a spoof on Karen vs. Carin’. What do you think?
