Christmas Ornament/ Party Favor/Gift Tag
One of the projects we made last December at club was this ornament. It could be used as a party favor or a gift tag or……

Recipe
There are six pairs of stars from the Stitched Stars Dies with an Evening Evergreen base and a smaller star die cut layer in the Painted Christmas DSP. The DSP is glued directly to the Evening Evergreen with Tombow adhesive and then the top two pairs are popped up using Stampin’ Dimensionals.
- Largest Star: Evening Evergreen, 5 1/2 X 6, die cut with stitched stars die
- Layer: Painted Christmas DSP, 4 X6, die cut with next smaller stitched stars die
- Note: After gluing on the DSP, punch a small hole for the ornament hanger, down far enough to be covered by the point of next star
- Next Star: Evening Evergreen, die cut with next smaller stitched stars die
- Layer: Painted Christmas DSP, die cut with next smaller stitched stars die
- Top Star: Evening Evergreen, die cut with stitched stars die
- Layer: Painted Christmas DSP, die cut with next smaller stitched stars die
- Gold Stems: Gold Foil, 2 1/2 X 2 1/4, Die Cut with Poinsettia die
- Leaves: Garden Green, 2 1/2 X 2, Merriest Frames Hybrid Embossing Folder and Die
- Poinsettias (X2): Real Red, 1 X 2, die cut with Merriest Frames Die
- Add one large gilded gem to the top
- Greeting: Basic White, 2 1/2 X 1 1/2 stamped with Merry Christmas from Curvy Christmas stamp set in Evening Evergreen. Die cut with Stitched Nested Label die and then sponge the edges with Evening Evergreen.
- Hanger: Red Twine, 12″ for hanger, separate 6″ for bow. Double the 12″ and push the loop through the punched hole from front to back then bring the ends through the loop at the back and tighten pushing the sides down around the point. Tie a double know with the ends. Tie a bow and mount with a glue dot on top of hanger.
That would be a good idea, Sal! I did that one year with a circular ornament that I put in a pocket at the front of the card. I made a longer hanger so it could loop to the inside of the card where I attached it lightly with a note saying the ornament could be removed.
Are you going to make gift tags this year?
You know, Sal, I have trouble with spending time on gift tags since they are thrown away with the wrapping paper with hardly a second look and they are not recyclable since the name is written on the tag. They are pretty and I love getting them on gifts but I am just not into making them.

Today’s inspiration comes from the July swaps! Let’s look at the red, white and blue ones first! I love to decorate the house with cards for the season and now I have some to save forever and put on the end tables and shelves around July 4th. Do you decorate with cards?
Joy’s card feels like a 4th of July picnic with a plate of goodies on a red and white tablecloth amidst a garden of flowers! Love it! She used the ‘Encircled In Friendship’ stamp set and the ‘Encircled in Beauty’ dies with Basic White, Paper Blooms DSP, Berry Delightful DSP, Crinkled Seam Binding and Opal Rounds.
Jo’s card is another ‘save forever to decorate’ card. She used the ‘Ornamental Christmas’ framelits for the stars, the ‘All Around Wreath’ dies for a red and white layered wreath, the ‘Playful Alphabet’ dies for the lettering of July, and ‘Family Party’ for Happy 4th. Inside she used the ‘Celebrate You’ dies. She sponged with Pacific Point ink to get the shaded blue look on the base!
The inside of Sharon’s card was as decorated as the outside and both were beautiful! She used the’ American Celebration’ holiday stamps from Close To My Heart and a 4th of July block stamp for the inside. She used silver, white and aqua tinsel embossing powders with Carousel & silver sparkle embossing glitters. She has a silver star embellishment on the flag, a gold star brad on the fireworks, and blue and red stars from a roll of stickers for the inside. She used a Spots and Dots cuttlebug embossing folder and square dies from Hobby Lobby. Her cardstocks are Whisper White, Cherry Cobbler and blue.
Lori’s swap card would put a smile on anyone’s face! She made watermelons from the ‘Layering Circle dies’ and a ‘Tasteful Label Die’ for the sentiment. She also used ‘Create With Friends’ stamp set and a Close To My Heart ‘August Word Puzzle’ for sentiments. She used a small flower punch and the ‘Pattern Party’ hostess DSP with Whisper White, Polished Pink, Garden Green and Blushing Bride card stock.
Prepare to be wowed, awed and inspired by Ann’s fabulous diorama card! She used the ‘Mountain Air’ stamp set and ‘Majestic Mountain’ dies with a sentiment from Happy Trails by Simple Stories. Her cardstock is Old Olive, Crumb Cake, and Basic White with inks of Early Espresso, Shaded Spruce, Mossy Meadow, Balmy Blue, Pool Party and So Saffron.
My card is a ‘sort of’ case of one I saw Frenchie Martin post at Frenchie Stamps.com. I used her idea of the ‘Stitched Stars’ with the medium ‘Daisy Punch’ and ‘Daisy Punch’ to layer red, white and blue on top of the stars, but I cut the stars in half so they covered more of the card front and I added a different sentiment and ribbon. The dies cut out stars that I used on the top of a 1/2″ Basic White circle and on the inside red and white strips. Do you recognize that Stampin’ Up! red, white and blue ribbon? No? It is the 1/4″ ‘Quilted Ribbon’ in red and green and I used our ‘Dark Night of Navy Blends’ to color the green to make it blue! The sentiment is from the ‘Hey Birthday Chick’ stamp set stamped on a ‘Stitched So Sweetly Die’ with a sponged edge of real red.

Recipe for 4th of July Card:
- Base: Thick Basic White, 5 1/2 X 8 1/2 scored at 4 1/4
- Layer 1: Real Red, 5 1/4 X 4
- Layer 2: Basic White, 5 1/8 X 3 7/8
- Swirly Star: Night of Navy, 4 X 2, cut in half and adhere to red daisy then adhere to card front
- Daisy:
- Real Red 2 1/2 X 2 1/2 punched with larger daisy punch
- Basic White 2 1/2 X 2 1/2 punched with larger daisy punch
- Night of Navy 2 X 2 punched with medium daisy punch
- Circle on top of daisy: Basic White, scrap, with 1/2″ punch layered with a small star cut out from the die
- Greeting: Basic White, 2 1/2 X 2, Stitched So Sweetly Die, stamped in Night of Navy, sponged with Real Red
- Stamp Set: Hey Birthday Chick
- Inks: Night of Navy for sentiment and Real Red for sponging
- Dies: Stitched Stars Dies, Stitched So Sweetly
- Punches: Daisy Punch, Medium Daisy Punch and 1/2″ circle punch
- Ribbon: 1/4″ Quilted Ribbon, 6 1/2″ with the green stripe colored with a Dk Night of Navy Stampin’ Blend
- Inside strips:
- Real Red 4 X 1/2
- Basic White 3 7/8 X 3/8
- 3 Night of Navy stars from the die cut outs used for the swirly stars on front
- Embellishments: 3 holiday red rhinestones

Oh So Ombre Starburst Card and Mystery Card #9

This month has flown by and February is almost upon us — whoo hoo time for valentines!!
You have valentine cards done?
Well, not for this post, Sal. This post will highlight the swap cards and the Mystery Card #9. For those who are new to the blog, each month we have two events- one Facebook Live event on the second Tuesday of each month and one Zoom event on the last Tuesday of each month. Accordingly, the schedule for February is:

My event calendar shows the monthly Paper Pumpkin kit as a Facebook Live for the third Tuesday of the month but since the delivery times are so slow right now I haven’t received my kit in time to have the event.
. Why don’t you do a YouTube live whenever you get the kit?
That is a possibility! Especially with the January kit which has some beautiful valentine cards! Stay tuned!
My swap card for this month is a Happy New Year! card and I used products from all three catalogs!

Recipe:
Base: Either – Blackberry Bliss/Rococo Rose/Granny Apple Green/ Bermuda Bay, 8 1/2″X5 1/2″ scored at 4 1/4″
Starburst Base: Whisper White, 5 1/4″X4″, Mark the center bottom at 2 5/8″ to show the starting point of your strips
Starburst Strips: Oh So Ombre Designer Series Paper (DSP), 1 1/2″ X 6″, make sure your strips are cut to go vertically light to dark or dark to light. Cut each strip diagonally. Line the opposite corners in the track of the paper trimmer and cut. You will use 13 cut strips. Make a pile of 6 light to dark pieces and 6 dark to light pieces and use the 13th piece for the middle
Using liquid glue cover your Whisper White base. I used a sponge to spread Tombow so it didn’t have clumps of glue.
Place your 13th diagonal half with the point at the 2 5/8″ mark on your now ‘gluey’ piece of Whisper White. Work from that center piece alternating light and dark points. Work quickly so you can slide each piece tightly to the previous one before the glue gets hard to work with.
When done, turn the base over and burnish the back to make sure all the glue spreads evenly and the pieces are tight to base.
Now cut all those starburst pieces to the size of the base using the back of the base as a guide. Scissors work fine because you have the base to guide your cuts.
Note: The Oh So Ombre paper is 6″X6″ so you have 4 strips on each sheet. Each strip is cut diagonally making 8 strips per sheet of DSP so you need two sheets to make 13 strips. Do not cut the last 1 1/2″ strip diagonally – cut it in half horizontally to give you a nice 3/4″ strip for the inside of your card. You will have one starburst strip left over.
Star Top, Numbers and Scrolly at the bottom: Pearlescent Specialty Paper, 4 1/2″ X 4″. Use the double back adhesive paper just slightly less than that size and adhere it to the Specialty Paper, Die Cut your images, remove the five stars for the inside, and then place the die cut images on a piece of scrap cardstock and run them back through the Cut and Emboss machine to flatten the little dots that show up in the cuts and to adhere the images tightly to the adhesive sheet. Use a hat pin to remove the adhesive sheet backing from your die cut images by sticking it through the adhesive baking in the middle of a wide part. The stars and the scrolly are from the Stitched Stars Dies, the numbers are from the Playful Alphabet Dies; both are in the Annual Catalog. The Pearlescent paper is in the Mini JJ catalog.
Inside Happy New Year: Oh So Ombre Designer Series Paper, 1 1/4″ X 6″, Apply double back adhesive sheet to the back and then cut using Word Wishes Dies, trim off the ‘s’ on ‘years’ since you are not using the ‘day’ die. The stars are from the star cut out we made for the top. The Oh So Ombre paper doesn’t show the little dots from the die like the pearlescent paper so I didn’t need to run it back through the machine to flatten but you do need to burnish the pieces well to adhere them to the cardstock.
Good question, Sal. I do use that term often. It is a technical way of saying ‘rub’. Sometimes we use our fingers and sometimes we use the bone folder. Most often the term is used when we score a piece of cardstock and want the fold on the score line to be nice and crisp and lay down flat.
Let’s look at this month’s Mystery Card, shall we?
Base: Granny Apple Green
I used the Sale-A-Bration Flower & Field Designer Series Paper which is free with a $50 purchase.
I punched and layered two large daisies in Whisper White, one small daisy in Pool Party and one in Whisper White. Both the small and large punch are in the Annual Catalog.
The bee is from the Dandy Garden DSP in the Mini JJ Catalog, die cut with the Dandy Wishes Die.
The ribbon is the Ornate Garden Ribbon Combo Pack in the Annual Catalog (AC).
The jewel on the little heart is the “Flowers For Every Season Gem” in the AC.
The greeting is from the Many Messages bundle in the JJ catalog, page 35. What an awesome set of greetings all cut out at once with the die!

Beautiful cards! Though the construction was basic, the mystery was in the different designer series paper that each chose!
