Love Cats Card

The cutest kitty cat stamp set is available in the Stampin’ Up! Mini Catalog!  It is callled ‘Love Cats’ -quite appropriate for a title!

I saw a card made by Jenny Boyle with one cat holding the tail of another cat and loved that idea so I changed colors, flowers, background, bling and greeting to make this:

The flowers and paper for the oval frame are from the Hues of Happiness Designer Series Paper.  The flowers are fussy cut and the oval frame is made using the Oval Framelits.   It is amazing how one little idea can lead to a very different card!  I was making this for a get well card and used a greeting from the ‘Beautifully Happy’ Stamp Set in the Sale A Bration catalog:

I was experimenting with oval sizes and had an extra oval so I stamped the third kitty cat on it, put tear and tape around three edges and added it to the inside left of the card for the gift card.

This is the stamp set:

It is a great stamp set, and with the Stamparatus you can get perfect placement of the kitty so that you can stamp a couple of times for a nice black image.

The ‘Beautifully Happy’ Stamp Set is free with a $100 purchase.  It has 17 stamps and is a two step so you can ‘stamp to color’ the  flowers and leaves after first stamping the outside!

Stampin’ Up! has a new set of ovals which you can get separately or as a bundle:

Wow, that is tiny – I need a magnifying glass to see the ovals!

Better?!

Yes!

So let’s look at this from a Sale A Bration standpoint.

-Framed Florets Bundle. $54. #162407.  This has the oval you need, mine is retired.

-Hues of Happiness DSP.  $12.00 #158822

-Love Cats Stamp Set.  $21.00 #160410

-Cane Weave Embossing Folder. $10 #160580.  Mine is the retired basket weave but quite similar.

-Opal Rounds for Bling. $8.50. #159185

If you purchased all those items (assuming you have Thick White Cardstock for the base and a Cut and Emboss machine) you would get the ‘Beautifully Happy’ Stamp Set for free and you could make this card and dozens more with various sayings and flowers and dies to cut out what you need.  Birthday, thank you, get well, friend and generic sayings in these sets cover most times you need a card.

Recipe

  • Base:  Thick Basic White 5 1/2 X 8 1/2 scored at 4 1/4
  • Layer (X2), Inside and Outside:  Basic White 5 1/4 X 4, Emboss with Cane Weave 3D embossing folder for outside
  • Kittys Outside:  Basic White, 5 1/2 X 4 1/4, stamp in Memento Black with Stamparatus so you can stamp twice; fussy cut
  • Oval:  Basic White, 4 X 3 1/4, cut with oval framelit #4 for background of kittys
  • Oval with DSP:  Hues of Happiness DSP, 4 X 3 1/4, Cut with framelits 3 & 4 to make the frame
  • Flowers:  Fussy cut about 3 1/2 X 2 from the Hues of Happiness DSP for front and two flowers for inside
  • Bling it up!

You thought that sheet of DSP was something you would never use and look at you!

Yes, indeed!  Check out the other card I made with this one sheet of paper – Easel Card with Hues of Happiness.

Sale A Bration ends on February 28 so don’t delay!  Check out the Catalog Tab here on the blog if you don’t have a hardcopy of the catalog.

The hostess code for February is C3XMWVCS.  This code is used if your order is under $150 so all the little orders add together to give someone (might be you) hostess dollars!  Over $150 and you get the hostess dollars yourself to spend on anything you would like from the Annual Catalog or the Mini Catalog.  Both these catalogs end on May 1 when the new Annual Catalog comes out.

Click on little Sal in the computer to go to the Stampin’ Up! site and order.   Thank you so much for supporting me!  If you don’t use the host code you will need to select me as your demonstrator.

Surprise!

I have a treat for you today!  I joined a Quill-A-Long event on Facebook taught by Kelly Foulk.  She uploaded clear instructions to a file on her facebook page “Quill-A-Long” and then held the live event which you can still watch on Facebook.  After making the rose from her design, I made it into a card!

I took multiple pictures trying to show you the quills a bit better and wasn’t successful.  I will have to work on my photography or choose quilling strips of a lighter color.

Be sure and visit Kelly Foulk at Quill-A-Long on Facebook for all the directions and the replay of the Facebook live.  Click on ‘files’ in her Facebook Quill-A-Long page to get the directions and a pattern to follow.

I am confused!  Why would you want to do something like quilling?  You are a stamper!

I know, Sal, but check out the card, quilling and stamping can be used together!  Here is a side shot but the dark green is too dark to show the quilled leaves.  I used Kelly’s colored pattern but perhaps if I used the pattern on plain white the quilling might show.

For the inside of this sympathy card I used the retired Thoughts & Prayers stamp set.  The outside greeting is from the retired Many Messages stamp set.

Recipe:

  • Base:  Thick Basic White cardstock, 5 1/2 X 8 1/2, scored at 4 1/4.
  • Layer 1: Hues of Happiness Designer Series Paper,  3 1/2 X 5, Die cut with Ornate Layers Die.
  • Layer 2: Thick Basic White, 2 1/4 X 3 5/8, I printed Kelly’s rose design on 8 1/2 X 11, constructed the rose and then used a ruler and scissors to cut to the correct size since you can’t cut with the rose attached.  In the future I will cut the base of the design first and then build the rose. I corner rounded top left and bottom right .
  • Inside Layer: Thick Basic White, 2 1/4 X 3 5/8, corner round top left and bottom right to match front.  Sponge half with Polished Pink ink and half with Crushed Curry ink.  Stamp greeting in Evening Evergreen.
  • Outside greeting:  Basic White, 5 1/2 X 4 1/4, Stamp Many Messages in Evening Evergreen and die cut with Messages Die which gives you 19 little greetings, a little heart and three stars.   The greeting is sponged on top with Polished Pink ink and half with Crushed Curry ink matching the designer series paper colors.  Pop it up with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  • Pink and yellow jewels were added for a bit of sparkle.

Will it mail in a regular A2 envelope?

No, Sal, unfortunately it needs a padded envelope and the ‘nonmachineable’ postage stamp.  The post office can also stamp the outside with their ‘nonmachineable’ word stamp but you have to have them look for the stamp as many workers forget that it exists.  I’m sure it was in their training but it is used very seldom.

Have you made other projects?

I started a kit I purchased at Michaels that looked intriguing to do outline letters for Joy’s name filled in with lovely quilling.  I followed the instructions from a Youtube that showed putting straight pins around the edge of the quilled strips to make the letters.  The paper showed every single pin mark so it was awful.  The glue technique I used didn’t work either and glue showed everywhere.  Thankfully there was a second pattern in the kit so Joy might get it by her next birthday in December.  Sigh…..

See what I mean….

Ugh… lots of work and no way to fix it with all those holes everywhere!

I saw another technique where the lady used a scoring tool to indent where she wanted the strips for the letters. I’ll let you know how that works!  Hopefully, following Kelly will help me with the art of quilling.

For now, thank you for spending a bit of your precious time with me as I present my very first completed quilling project!

Elephant Parade Pop & Twist Birthday Card

Happy New Year!  Let’s start it out with a Pop Up and Twist Birthday Card.  I used the Elephant Parade Stamp Set and Elephant Dies for Emma’s fourth birthday card as well as the retired Mischievous Mouse Hostess Stamp Set.  I wanted 4 mice – 4 elephants – 4 peanuts – 4 butterflies – 4 balloons and 4 bits of bling.   Thanks to Jaime Marsh for the front design on Pinterest and Teri Pocock of Stampin’ Magic for a great Youtube video showing how to make the card.

.  So…. who couldn’t resist counting?

Sort of like the joke.. “The first sign of craziness is a hair on your finger knuckle, the second sign is looking for it!”

Here is Teri Pocock’s youtube video- you will need this for construction of the mechanism.

  • Outside circles:
    • Basic White, 3 3/16 die cut circle (retired circle dies)
    • Flirty Flamingo, 2 3/4 die cut with layered circle scalloped die
    • Basic White, 2 1/16 die cut with layered circle plain circle die
  • 4 green sequins

Note: The E, M, M, A and the ‘4’ stamped on the balloons is from one of Stampin’ Up!’s very first photopolymer sets- retired.

“It’s your birthday” is from Mischievous Mouse stamp set.

What about the outside greeting?

Oops, I forgot to list that in my notes.  The greeting is in the Elephant Parade stamp set and the die is the Pretty Pillowbox die, stamped with the greeting in Mint Macaron on Basic White and then die cut, and a second die cut with flirty flamingo, cut in half and then layered under the basic white.

The heart for the inside greeting is a retired heart punch.

I love this cute animal card! It could be for an adult with a sense of fun!

That’s true!  “We don’t quit laughing because we grow old; we grow old because we quit laughing.”

May we keep the childlike love of life!
