For The Love of Fall
Hello Stamping Friends,
I do so love fall! However, I would really like fall to come before winter, yet yesterday and today we have had snow here in Castle Rock, CO, so it looks like winter.
Maybe it is all those Christmas cards you are making that brought on winter.
Now Sal, let’s just call it coincidence and Colorado’s unpredictable weather, okay?
We have two fall cards for you today and a Facebook Live video if you prefer videos over words, though the recipes follow.
Someday I will teach Sal to push the ‘Go Live’ and ‘Start Streaming’ buttons so I can look at the camera. I have heard there is a way to edit the Facebook Lives and delete the first part so that is a skill I need to learn.

Recipe for Simply Thankful:
- Base: Basic Black, 5 1/2 X 8 1/2 scored at 4 1/4.
- Barnwood Layer: In Good Taste Designer Series Paper (DSP), 4 X 5 1/4.
- Black Layer: 3 1/2 X 4 3/4 cut with the Rectangle Stitched Die; TIP: use wax paper between the die and the cardstock. Emboss the greeting in white slightly to the right and then use Black Stampin Dimensionals to adhere.
- Pumpkin: Pumpkin Pie Cardstock 2 1/4 X 2, make 2 with the Mini Curvy Keepsakes Die using just the handle section not the slot section of the die. Before trimming down to size and making the bottom and top circular, lay one section 1/4″ over top of the second section and score a line following the curve of the section. Repeat on the other side. Score the line, color it with a Pumpkin Pie Marker and then sponge it. Do the same on the second section if you want to choose between the two sections for which one looks best for the top. Cut the bottom and top of each section to shape the pumpkin. Sponge all the edges of both sections and down the middle of the top section. Cut one section in half and glue each half behind the front section.
- Pumpkin Stem: Cinnamon Cider, 2 X 7/8, Cut with the handle of the Die. (This can be run at the same time as the pumpkin sections.) Cut in half, trim off excess and use a crumb cake marker to add a few lines.
- Pumpkin Vine: Garden Green, 1 X 2, make 2 with the Banner Blooms Dies.
- Medium Leaf: Cajun Craze, 2 X 2, the leaves are all cut with the Gathered Leaves Dies. Sponge the veins lightly and then the edges on all the leaves with their corresponding inks.
- Medium Leaf: Old Olive, 2 X 2, sponge
- Large Leaf: Daffodil Delight, 2 X 2, sponge
- Large Leaf: Merry Merlot, 2 X 2, sponge
- Small Leaf: Mango Melody, 1 1/2 X 1 1/2, sponge
- Black Eyed Susan: Mango Melody, 2 X 2 for each Medium Daisy Punch. You need six punched flowers so a 2 X 8 plus a 2 X 4 strip will work. Sponge the center with Mango Melody. Adhere two together with a glue dot.
- Inside of flowers: Early Espresso, 1 X 3, Punch with 3/8″ or 1/2″ circle punch. Adhere with a glue dot.
- Inside Layer: Mango Melody 4 X 5 1/4
- Bottom Strip on Inside: In Good Taste Designer Series Paper (DSP), 4 X 1/2.
Now the fun part of creating your collage! Start with the pieces on top of the pumpkin and work to the back. I used glue dots- lots of glue dots!
Other options for making a pumpkin are the Apple Builder Punch or using five circles or five ovals to layer together.

- Circle Die for the frame

Recipe for Beautiful Moments:
- Base: Cajun Craze, 5 1/2 X 8 1/2 scored at 4 1/4.
- Aspen Grove Layer: Very Vanilla, 4 X 5 1/4, Embossed with the Woodlands Folder after the folder is inked on the indent side with Crushed Curry. I turn the ink pad upside down and tap it on the folder.
- Tree: Mango Melody, 3 1/2 X 5, die cut with the Sweet Silhouette Tree Die. Tip: Use two folded up dryer sheets underneath your cardstock to make removing the little bits quite easy since they stick to the dryer sheet. The tree trunk and limbs are colored with the Dark Soft Suede Stampin’ Blend. The far left side of the tree has a limb that will need cut off so you can attach the trunk of the tree with a glue dot at the bottom left behind the circle frame. (I glued that little branch in the inside of the card as you see above.) Adjust the tree so that all the leaves will be inside the card borders. When you are completely done, place a small amount of Tombow glue on the silicon sheet and use a toothpick to add bits of glue to the leaves to attach to the circle.
- Circle Frame: Cajun Craze 4 1/2 X 4 1/2, Die cut with two layered circle dies to create the frame. Sponge the inside and outside of the frame with Cajun Craze and mount the tree at the bottom left behind the circle. Use Stampin’ Dimensionals to pop up the frame. You will need a dimensional at the thickest part of the trunk of the tree.
- Green grass and cattails: Pear Pizzaz, 2 1/2 X 3; die cut two grass sections from the Dockside Die. Color the cattails with Early Espresso and sponge the grass with Crumb Cake to give it that end of the summer look.
- Moose: Early Espresso, 2 1/4 X 2, punched with the moose punch and sponged on the edges.
- Greeting: Very Vanilla, 2 1/4 X 1 1/2 , die cut with the leaf in the Poinsettia Dies. Stamp with the “collect beautiful moments” from the Beautiful Moments stamp set, sponge the edge with pumpkin pie, then add an orange rhinestone. Glue to the circle but add a tiny dimensional to the left edge to attach to the aspen grove layer.
- Inside: Very Vanilla, 4 X 5 1/4, the little tree limb is glued to the inside corner .

Paul, my DH, looks at these and says “another Karen card”. I keep telling him someday I will learn to make clean and simple cards but I always want to challenge myself. He suggested I call them Carin’ Cards to reflect a Caring Karen. He got a kiss for that! So I decided our team should be called Carin’ Crafters for the caring and sharing card makers that we are and yet a bit of a spoof on Karen vs. Carin’. What do you think?

‘Sending You Thoughts’ and Kerchief Card Kit

The sun has returned in our beautiful Colorado after a very- windy -snowy- day yesterday! The clouds cleared and it was below zero last night but today looks to be gorgeous. I hope you are getting some sunshine. If not, better double up on those D vitamins! Even our little Ruger seeks out the sunshine!
What he really wants is a nice long walk outdoors!
That is for sure! If we don’t start walking soon we will both just be waddling!
Let’s move on to the Sale A Bration products I have to show you today. First is the Kerchief Card Kit which many of you earned free with a $50 purchase. It was one of my first selections. The kit has preprinted greetings but you can change them up as I have done here. The kit version without changes is on the left. I turned over the label that was in the kit and stamped it with a greeting from ‘Flourishing Phrases’, sponged the edge with Poppy Parade and added Terracotta Tile Faceted Dots. Aren’t the matching envelopes great?
For the Balmy Blue version I used the same ‘Flourishing Phrases’ greeting, cut a label from the Retired Lily Framelits Dies, sponged the edge in Balmy Blue and added a Noble Peacock Blue Rhinestone. The Pretty Label punch works well for the greeting and is still available.

And how far away is spring?March 20th is the first day of spring, Sal, so 24 days; but remember March is generally one of Colorado’s snowiest months so get ready to build more snowmen. My grandsons were here with Amber and building a snowman:

Too late! Let’s look at the ‘Sending You Thoughts’ set and how I used it to make a get well card and a birthday card. The greeting “Another sensational year of you” is in the ‘Sending You Thoughts’ stamp set. The base is Grapefruit Grove with a layer of Tufted 3D embossing on Whisper White and a bottom layer of Gingham DSP. The flowers and vase are from the ‘Vibrant Vases’ stamp set and stamped on Whisper White then cut with the Pretty Label punch, The edge of the label is sponged and then popped up on a doily. Rhinestones were added to the birthday card and Happiness Blooms Enamel Dots are added to the get well card with a tiny little bow for each from twine.
I am sad to have to send a get well card but delighted with the greetings in this set. Take a look:
- Base – Grapefruit Grove, 5 1/2 X 8 1/2 scored at 4 1/4
- Gingham Layer – Grapefruit Grove Gingham DSP, 1 3/4 X 5 1/4
- Tufted Layer – Whisper White 2 1/4 X 5 1/4 embossed with 3D Embossing Folder
- Inside Layer – Whisper White 5 1/4 X 4
- Strips for under the ribbon and inside – make 3 – 3/4 X 5 1/4 – use the backside for contrast on one
- Pretty Label Punch – Whisper White 3 X 2
Stamp the vase in Memento black ink, mask the vase, then stamp the flowers. Vibrant Vases is a fun stamp set that has two step stamping so you can stamp the main images and then use a second stamp to color each image. I used Grapefruit Grove for the coloring of the vase and flowers and Call Me Clover for the leaves. I sponged a little light grey at the base of the vase with a make up brush, a Q-tip would work nicely, too.
I wonder what it would look like with lots of different colored flowers and flowery DSP?
Lovely, I am sure, but I generally lean toward the monochromatic look.

Vibrant Vases Tri-fold card

It probably won’t be morning by the time you get this post in your mailbox but currently it is still morning in Karen’s World!
Don’t you mean Stampalosopher? Karen’s World was your accounting firm.
Yes, indeed, it is a Stampalosopher World! Today I have one of two cards to show you that I created for a stint as a guest presenter in Grand Junction. The first was inspired by Joy Meadows and the very lovely card she sent for my birthday. Thank you, Joy!
Do you see how the front right hand flap is exactly the same size as the left side white layer with the same size black border? So cool! The white flaps inside and out are 3″ X 3 1/2″ with a black border of 3 1/8″ X 3 5/8″. The paper is from the SAB (Sale A Bration) Botanical Butterfly DSP (Designer Series Paper). One side had butterflies and the other had black and white designs like the dots Joy used here. I hope you stocked up on this paper during SAB! Her base is 9 7/8″ X 5 1/2″ scored at 4 1/8″ and 8 3/8″ . This leaves a right hand flap of 1 1/2″. The butterfly is from the Butterfly Gala stamp set which is still current and has a punch to match. See page 46 of the Annual Catalog.
But Karen, you can’t use retired Designer Series Paper!
I know, Sal, so I chose to use the Vibrant Vases and the Pressed Petals DSP with an accent color of Blueberry Bushel, one of the 2018-2020 In Colors that I will definitely need to stock up on before it retires next June.
Don’t you love the Pressed Petals DSP with the Blueberry Bushel? There is even a sheet of the DSP with plain burlap that I used for the right side little panel to coordinate with the background of the pressed petals.
And the Pressed Petals is part of the current “Buy 3 packs of DSP and Get One Free”!

I used the Flourishing Phrases stamp set for the sentiments on the flap and the left side of the card and left the inside blank for a birthday, congratulations or just thinking of you sentiment. I needed a little larger flap than what Joy used for the butterflies so the measurements won’t be the same. The goal was to have the outside vases a bit plain with the inside vase truly “vibrant” to match the sentiments. The Vibrant Vases stamp set is a two-step stamp set with outline stamps for the vases and then a stamp-to-color for each vase and it even has a punch to match! Check out page 61 of the Annual Catalog. The yellowed images show what images are punchable. (Is that a word?)
I stamped the outside vases with the border stamps in Soft Suede and then stamped again with the stamp-to-color stamps after stamping off to lighten the image. I used the “H” acrylic block and spaced out the three vases and stamped with the outline stamps on a 6 X 3 piece of Whisper White. I then placed the (clean) stamp-to-color stamps on top of the images and took another “H” acrylic block and pressed it down on the stamps to attach them to the blocks in the perfect position. The stamparatus would have worked better but it was in use for the other card.

Thanks Sal. That might be a good idea for the next time. To make the inside vase truly “vibrant”, I stamped it in Blueberry Bushel, colored in the diamonds with Cajun Craze and Daffodil Delight regular markers and then took my Versa Mark ink and inked the entire image. I applied “Clear Embossing Powder” and then heated it to make the vase look like glass.
Stamp the greenery and flowers directly on the Very Vanilla card stock pieces – the flap for the outside and the Pretty Label punched piece for the left hand side. Adhere the vases directly to the paper since they are punched out and look 3D without dimensionals. I adhered the two larger vases close enough together so that I could adhere the middle little vase slightly on top of the larger ones and all three would fit on the 2″ shelf that was cut from Early Espresso card stock to a final size of 2″ X 1/4″ with the “Be Mine” stitched framelits. Hint: Start with a larger piece of Early Espresso and cut the scallop edge with the framelit and then place it in the Stampin’ Trimmer to cut to the 1/4″ shelf size. I cut a piece longer than the desired 2″ so I could cut exactly 1/2 of a scallop at each edge of the shelf.
She told me she was a “recovering perfectionist”! Maybe she needs more therapy. SHHHH……

The shelf is adhered with the top of the shelf 1 1/4″ from the bottom of the Very Vanilla layer and 3/8″ over from the left and right sides. Stamp the greeting in Blueberry Bushel under the shelf.
It can be tricky to stamp the greenery at the right spot for the vases so stamp your vases and punch them out then trim off the bottom white edge of the vases. Punches generally leave a little edge all the way around the image just like what we teach in fussing cutting. You want the vases to sit directly on the shelf so trim off that bottom edge.
Temporarily place your vases where you want them on the shelf and use a pencil to lightly outline the top of each vase. Now make three more light pencil marks where you want your stem to attach to the tulip. The tulip is 3/8″. Vary the heights of the three tulips. Use a sticky note to mask the shelf and where the vases will be and stamp the stem and greenery in Old Olive. Then stamp the tulips in Cajun Craze and stamp-to-color in Daffodil Delight. I had a shadow on one of my leaves so I just hand drew another leaf to utilize the shadow.
Sheri always called that “Design Opportunity”!
That she did! And that it is! We sometimes use tiny butterflies or hearts to cover our shadows and it adds beauty to the card. I just ordered erasers from Amazon that are supposed to remove ink without damaging the paper. I will let you know if they work.
A Stitched Labels Die is used for the little greeting that says “so he made you” and the fancy die in that same set is used for the DSP cutout on the left side. The Pretty Label punch is used for the vase and flowers on the left side. This is one of those times when you want to punch first and then stamp so you can align the flowers and vase on the punched piece. Use the same procedure of placing the vase temporarily on the piece, lightly draw the top of the vase, mask with a sticky note and stamp the flowers with Memento Black ink, then adhere the vase, color the flowers in Daffodil Delight and the greenery in Garden Green. Adhere rhinestones colored with Cajun Craze Stampin’ Blends. Sponge the edge of the Pretty Label punched piece and the little rectangle greeting with Blueberry Bushel and pop up both pieces with dimensionals.
Summary:

First Layer on left side and middle: Blueberry Bushel (make 2) 3 7/8″ X 5 1/4″ , Cut out the middle of the inside one. I used a retired rectangular framelit that I use to save paper when I am layering. A stitched rectangle framelit would work as well.
Second Layer on left side and middle: Pressed Petals DSP (make 2) 3 5/8″ X 5″ ; Cut out the center of the inside DSP layer with the Stitched Shapes Die- the fancy one. Use the cut out for the left side behind the Pretty Label punched piece.
Third Layer on left side and the flap for the front: Blueberry Bushel (make 2) 3 1/8″ X 4″. The left side 3rd layer is adhered 1/2″ down from the edge of the DSP and 1/4″ over from the edge of the DSP.
Fourth Layer on left side and the front flap: Very Vanilla (make 2) 2 7/8″ X 3 3/4″
Little Right side first layer: Blueberry Bushel, 1 1/4″ X 5 1/4″.
Little Right side second layer: DSP in plain burlap 1″ X 5″
The Blueberry Bushel Front Flap is adhered 1/2″ down from the burlap DSP on the little right side to exactly match the left side. This is done last! I put two pieces of tear and tape at the far right of the flap and then matched up the flap to the card’s left side and pressed it in place.
Shelf: Early Espresso, 4″ X 4″ Cut to 2″ X 1/4″ with the Be Mine Scalloped framelit and the Stampin’ Trimmer
Vases: Very Vanilla, Use the leftover from cutting the base or a 6″ X 3″
Punched Label: Very Vanilla 2″ X 2 3/4″
Left side greeting and the left side vase: 1 1/2″ X 3 3/4″ , you need it large enough to be able to hold it as you punch the vase. Stamp the greeting on the same piece and cut with the Little Stitched Labels Framelit.
I remember you looking at that little Die and saying it was too little to use for anything.
I did say that! Amazing isn’t it?! I am glad I have that set. I used two of the Dies on this card. I love the one I call the “fancy” Stitched Label Die!

Beauty Abounds And Butterfly Beauty

I have some fun cards today using the Butterfly Beauty Thinlits and the Beauty Abounds Stamp Set. These two sets carry into the new catalog but if you get them now you will get a 10% bundle discount, #150617. See them on page 13 of the Occasions catalog.
Before we get into the club card I want to show you The Vertical Greetings stamp set that I used for the Thank You notes. It is being retired:
I have used this set more times than I can count. In today’s thank you cards I didn’t want to cover up the beautiful butterflies but there was just enough room to do a vertical greeting.
Let’s start with the card I did for my card class:
The little ‘hello’ in the Beauty Abounds stamp set fit right between the butterflies. I stamped the hello in Versa Mark ink and embossed it with black embossing powder and then punched it out. I held the butterflies in place- without adhering them- to determine where to place the hello, being careful that the butterflies didn’t go outside the card.
Note: the double sided adhesive sheets are being retired, #144106, so stock up now. I used a sheet to adhere the top layer of the butterfly to the bottom layer. I put a 5 1/2″ X 4 1/4″ piece of the adhesive on the back of the Gorgeous Grape cardstock of the same size before running it through the Big Shot. After you cut out the butterflies and pull off the adhesive backing sheet, save it! It is shiny and beautiful. I used it on the thank you cards you will see in a minute.
There is a large stamp in the Beauty Abounds set with six bokeh dots and a smaller one with four bokeh dots. I used both and stamped them with Highland Heather. I stamped the dots with Gorgeous Grape. It is amazing how SU can make stamps that get several different shades of color with just one stamp. I didn’t have to do any masking or coloring- it was all in the stamp!
It was a little tedious to put dimensionals on all the butterflies but so worth the effort! These are the small dimensionals with a strip cut from the edge of the dimensionals sheet to put in the middle.
On the inside I stamped another set of bokeh dots in Highland Heather and two of the little butterflies from the same Beauty Abounds set in Gorgeous Grape.
Dimensions & Supplies:

The little butterflies have thinlits to cut them out and Stampin’ Up! has heard our frustrations with the time it takes when we want multiples of a cutout so they are making dies with several duplicates to save us time:

After the card class I had leftover cutouts as well as the adhesive sheet backings and I wanted to use them for my thank you cards. I chose Flirty Flamingo for another cutout and black for some of the backings. From a past catalog I had purchased Calypso Coral embossing powder and it matched the Flirty Flamingo card stock so I used it and ‘Vertical Greetings’ to emboss the thank you on the purple layers. (I showed that set first since I really don’t want you to miss having it in your collection.) I colored the wings with the clear Wink of Stella and adhered Iridescent Sequins, # 144212, for even more sparkle.
In this card I stamped the wing cutouts with the little dot stamp and then did a bit of paper piecing to make the wings.
I wish you could see how the Wink of Stella makes it look like black glimmer paper was used! The Share What You Love Artisan Pearls were used and they, too, are retiring, #146927.

It is another very snowy day here in Castle Rock, Colorado and I am loving it! As a little girl I would get so excited when it snowed, but my dad would look at me and say “If you had to go out and feed the cows you wouldn’t be so happy!” I just have birds outside to feed and they were sure glad we had stocked up the bird feeders!
Today I have a few Thank You cards to show you.
Which do you like better? These were simple using the Lovely Floral Embossing Folder, #148048 and the Banners For You Stamp Set, # 141710, with the Bunch of Banners Framelits, #141488. There is a Heart Epoxy Droplet, #148583, in front of the Thank You and a Frosted Flower Embellishment, #148782, in the center of the flower. The tiny clear droplets are retired as is the ribbon. I am learning to stock those embellishments when they are introduced before they sell out. Hopefully you have done the same.
- Card Base: Thick Whisper White 8 1/2″ X 5 1/2″ scored at 4 1/4″
- Top Layer: Pacific Point 5 1/4″ X 4″ embossed with the Lovely Floral embossing folder
- Greeting: Scrap of Whisper White stamped with the Banners For You greeting and cut with Bunch of Banners Framelits
- Inside: Greeting is stamped directly on the Thick Whisper White. It is from the Spirited Snowmen stamp set in the Holiday Catalog. The bottom design is from the Banners For You stamp set. I had never noticed that little flourish design before.
Stay with me while I show you how fantastic our Stamparatus is for mass production. I have been delighted to use it instead of blocks so I can restamp an image if it is not as perfect as I like, but I never thought I would use the hinge apparatus that lets you move the plate down the base in perfect intervals. It was interesting to watch the demonstrations as the stampers stamped Happy Birthday or a design a number of times down a card but not something I thought I would ever do. However, I tried it for mass producing the banners and it worked beautifully. Tip: Place one of our stamp cases under the plate to give a sturdy base for inking up the stamp.
I inked the stamp and then moved it down one step in the hinges. I had six beautifully lined up banners. I should have stamped the inside greeting first so I could line up the banner over top instead of doing the greeting over the banner. I ruined the first one in my line up attempt but once the stamp was lined up, I moved the plate down the hinges and had a nice set of banners ready to cut out. Tip: Use the acrylic sheet from your Stamp A Ma Jig to test the line up of the stamp. You will save a lot of grid paper and it would have saved me a banner!
Tip: Cut up your shammy to make a great little tool to clean any shadows off the edges of your stamps. It works great for cleaning your stamps while they are on the Stamparatus as well. I cut mine into several rectangles for each person to have at their station instead of a wet wipe. I store them in another of our stamp cases.

The Spirited Snowmen set did not carryover (they didn’t ask me…) but I wanted to show you the Delightfully Detailed Note Cards & Envelopes from the Annual Catalog page 193, #146911. There are 20 cards that are already color-washed. 10 are in Blackberry Bliss and 10 are in Mint Macaron (but I thought Pool Party was a better match and used it for my cards). I embossed some with the Softly Falling embossing folder, #139672, and I used the new Big Shot Embossing Mats, #146327, with the snowflakes from the Seasonal Layers Thinlits, #143751, to emboss the images instead of cutting them. We can do this with any of our framelits giving us a whole new application for embossing. You can see the embossing done on top facing down or on the bottom facing up in these images.
The Pool Party Shimmer Ribbon, #144152, was a great accent for the image which was stamped on a 3 1/2″ X 2 5/8″ Oval. The edges were sponged with Pool Party.

Bonus Card:
I made this card for Paul, my DH-darling hubby- and wonderful helper in this business! We celebrated 43 years of marriage on December 20. The card uses the Sprited Snowmen, the tree from Winter Woods (which does carryover), the Swirls & Curls embossing folder (also carrys over), and the Star of Light stamp set, which I hope stays in the annual catalogs for years. I bought the Stitched All Around stamp set, page 17, # 146632, just because it had a stamp that said “Oh darling you are fabulous” and I wanted to use it on a card for Paul. It made a great inside for this card.
Flashback Fun
When you are in the design zone, don’t forget Vertical Greetings on page 31 of the Annual Catalog. This is another set I hope continues for years. I used the current Vertical Greetings set with the ‘Special Reason’ stamp set and the ‘Stylish Stems’ Framelits that are retired.
The pink strip I cut off the front side was placed on the inside on top of a fun piece of Designer Series Paper.
Another favorite from the past is Paisleys and Posies with the Paisley Framelits:
You could use this as a card layout for a thank you card using a piece of Designer Series Paper, DSP, with a strip of foil paper, a fun framelit cutout and a thank you in the corner. It is fun to challenge yourself to bring in all the colors of a piece of Designer Series Paper. The photopolymer stamps will bend so you can round them into a corner similar to what is shown here using a past Sale A Bration stamp set. Send me a picture if you make a card with this layout, I would love to see it.

Tranquil Tulips
Hello Stamping Friends,
Spring has been gorgeous in Castle Rock this year! Usually our lilac buds get frozen with a spring cold front and we miss out on the beautiful blossoms. Not this year! They are fabulous and I didn’t even have to run out and cover the bushes with a sheet. We have several little yellow finch friends to entertain us as well. One flower I have never had much luck with is the tulip. The green stem will pop out of the ground but seldom produce a flower. So let’s make a paper tulip card!
These tulips have amazing art work built in to the stamps- white stripes on the blossoms, leaves with shades of green and a stamp for the middle.
I suppose with three grandsons I will get used to bugs in a jar but I would rather fill a jar with strawberries or flowers! I cased the layout of the tulips from someone on pinterest but made the bottom a flower box and added the ladybug and butterfly. I stamped the three butterflies on vellum and then rubbed the back of the circles on the butterfly’s wings with my stylus on the foam pad to make them bright white, then colored the back with my Daffodil Delight Stampin’ Blends marker. I was making six of these cards so I folded the wings of the two larger butterflies for a 3D effect like this:
I used many retiring items that you can still purchase for the next five days. The base of the card is Elegant Eggplant with a Rose Red layer. The tulips are Elegant Eggplant, Rose Red, and Perfect Plum with Wild Wasabi for leaves – all are retiring colors.
The label I used to create the stand for the Easel card is from the Label Me Pretty stamp set. 
The “Thank You” comes from another retiring set “Swan Lake” .
Check out that cute little dragonfly! This set has so much potential and makes me feel peaceful just looking at the images. Another of the ‘Label Me Pretty’ images:
The “Love You” is from the ‘Banners for You’ stamp set….. I put a sticky note over the ‘I’ in the greeting, inked, removed the sticky and stamped. I liked the little dots on the stamp set but used a marker to make them bigger and added a few extra dots of my own. For both these greetings I punched a 1 3/4″ circle from the Wood Textures Designer Series Paper to match the flower box. I popped up both the greeting and the circle to have a nice tall easel holder. I tried out the third stamp with all the flowers around the Happy Birthday. I first stamped and colored the image but it lost too much detail so I colored the back of my stamp with regular markers, huffed on the colored stamp, and then came up with an image with more detail that I popped up on an oval cut out in the wood:
Did you notice the Versa Mark images on the sides of the popped up greetings? I used the hearts from the Ronald McDonald set to stamp around the birthday greeting since it is going to my daughter. For the others I used tulip images from the ‘Lovely Wishes’ stamp set in the Occasions Catalog.
I recently attended a Mile High Stamp Camp with amazing Stampin’ Up! demonstrators. I wish I remembered the name of the lady who designed this card using the ‘Lovely Wishes’ set:
I needed a sympathy card so I took her design and used the ‘Petitie Pairs’ stamp set from the past for a tiny greeting to fit between the flowers. I have the old Ovals set so I sponged the edge to get the same look as the ‘Layering Oval’ set used above.
The layering ovals, squares and circles carry over in to the new catalog. I didn’t think I wanted the ‘Ruffled Embossing Folder’ used here until I actually used it in the stamp camp. It is unique and not just for shingles on a house like I imagined and it carrys over. Five embossing folders are retiring but the one that I will miss the most is the ‘Brick Wall’ embossing folder. Remember this card from the past?
Let’s not think fall, let’s think spring and graduation! I needed a graduation card so I used the retiring ‘Marquee Messages’ set and a graduation cap stamp from a previous Paper Pumpkin. There are fun confetti products in the “other” store that you could use for the graduation caps:

And if you need a unique gift box for that special graduate’s gift card, I suggest the Window Box Thinlits dies #142762 topped with a square piece of cardstock, 4″X4″ and a tassle made from our solid black baker’s twine and a 1/2″ punched black circle glued on a large brad. We have a ‘Mini Tassels Assortment’ you can purchase and then dip in a bowl of reinker to make just the right color. Yes, it is retiring as well.
You would need the longer ones for the box above but these would be cute on a card front with a punched cap.
I can’t leave today’s ultra-long post without sharing three other cards. In the last post I showed my favorite retiring stamp set in use on an Eclipse card. Here is another card we made at a past club meeting with the ‘Awesomely Artistic’ set, and the ‘Wild About Flowers’ set which has greetings that are so ideal for retirement or new beginnings.

Awesomely Artistic Eclipse Card

I chose two of my favorite sets to make an Eclipse card – the stamp set “Awesomely Artistic”, and the color Island Indigo. In my usual monochromatic style I did cards for Mother’s Day, thank you cards and friend cards. Her are various fronts and insides of the cards -the inside could just as easily be the outside of a card.
The Glitter Enamel Dots, matched the Island Indigo perfectly and added sparkle. The dragonfly is colored with the Wink of Stella Glitter Brush, and the flower centers are a drop of glue from our Fine-Tip Glue Pen, with Dazzling Diamonds Stampin’ Glitter sprinkled on top. The For You greeting comes from the retiring stamp set “So Many Shells”.
Instead of Glitter Dots you could be a bit eclectic and use the stamp from the “Awesomely Artistic” set that has dots. The greeting, “From Across The Miles”, is a stamp in “Holly Berry Happiness”. I used a sticky note to cover up the Christmas Wishes words on the stamp, inked the stamp, removed the sticky note and stamped. Voila- a greeting to use any time of the year.
Or just stamp the flowers a little on the edge of your front layer:
The insides of the cards were fun to customize. My daughter is expecting her first child so this is her first Mother’s Day. A greeting in the “Special Celebrations” stamp set was perfect:
The Daisy Delight stamp set had the ideal message for the many thank you notes I needed after my father’s passing.
For dear family and friends, the Occasions Catalog “Petal Palette”, has the perfect message:
And of course Mother’s Day is coming up so I went back to the Special Celebrations stamp set for a special message:
Card Base: Whisper White 8 1/2″ X 5 1/2″ Scored at 4 1/4″
Island Indigo Layer: 5 1/4″ X 4″, Make two
Whisper White top layer: 5 X 3 3/4″, Make two
Stamping Order for the top is a bit critical so you don’t have the images running into each other:
- Stamp the greeting at the bottom
- Stamp the dragonfly
- Stamp the flowers
Color the dragonfly with Wink of Stella, then line up the Large Letters Framelits, #141712, spelling HUGS on your stamped top layer and run through the Big Shot. Adhere all your layers and then put Foam Adhesive Strips, #141825, on the back of the cut out letters and glue the letters back in their respective spaces. Helpful Hint: I adhered the letter framelits to a large sticky note and then placed the sticky noted letters on the top layer so I could use it over and over without realigning the framelits each time.
I checked Eclipse cards on Pinterest and found so many words that were used: HOPE, LOVE, YOU, WISH, BDAY, MOM, BABY, BOY, DAD, GIRL, GIVE, NOEL, (NAME), (DATE), JUST, FAITH, JOY, 4EVER, EPIC, BEST (friend). Graduation cards with dates are popular now using the retiring Large Number Framelit set, #140622. The Large Letters framelits will carryover to the new catalog but not the numbers set.

Heartfelt Blooms Thank You!

My daughter brought me “Heartfelt Blooms” and I loved how they resembled our new Sale A Bration stamp set!
I didn’t realize how poorly the pictures of the cards turned out until I downloaded the images, so bear with me a bit. 
It looks like I have an orange filter on the camera, sigh…. the cards are gone and I can’t retake the picture.
The free Tutti-Frutti card bases have a nice designer paper look, front and back, and the envelopes are colored to match with a great inside design as well. I cut the first layer at 5″ X 3 3/4″ to leave a nice designer border from the base card. I used crumb cake to match the two envelopes that had crumb cake linings and black for the first layer on the cards with black envelope linings. The top layer is Whisper White cut at 4 3/4″ X 3 1/2″. The flowers are stamped in Wild Wasabi, Calypso Coral, Pool Party, and Crushed Curry. The Pool Party image is fussy cut and popped up for an extra bit of dimension. A 4″ length of ribbon and three sequins dressed up the card without taking away from the detailed flower image. For the inside I used the greeting from Paisleys & Posies “I thank you for your part in my journey.” since without all of you supporting my business there would be no business.
That little strip at the bottom is black – uh huh. Sad, but don’t you just love the little mums stamped in the corner?
The Wild Wasabi image came out the very best so I made another set of cards using Wild Wasabi card stock as the base and stamping the edge with Versa Mark and the little tiny flowers and leaves from the vine of the Thoughts and Prayers stamp set.
The first layer is black and the ribbon is black- you are wishing you had this wonderful filtering lens right? The dimensions of both layers are the same as above. For the inside I chose a greeting from the Rose Wonder stamp set:
Imagine the possibilities!

May Club Cards and Stamp A Stack Cards

Happy Memorial Day Weekend! Hopefully your vacation day is a sunny one.
This post will include cards from our bimonthly club and the Elizabeth Stamp A Stack. Check back in a couple weeks for recipes. Today I will just show you the cards so you can decide if you want to make that last purchase from the catalog before savings and product are gone forever! Tuesday, May 31, is the last day to place an order from the Occasions catalog and the big catalog. Several items have already sold out so hurry!
My favorite project was the Birthday Blooms Surprise Pull Out card. I saw this card on My Tanglewood Cottage and the directions are on Splitcoast Stampers. Scroll through the Splitcoast Stampers pictured instructions to go down to the video (click here) to get the measurements I used. The greetings in the pull up are in the Birthday Blooms stamp set.
The flower image is stamped with Stazon black on a piece of Shimmery White cardstock and colored with Blender Pens using Blushing Bride and Wild Wasabi Ink. The bottom parts of the image’s leaves are fussy cut and then the oval framelit #4 is slipped under the cutout and run through the Big Shot. When you run the stamped image through the Big Shot you will get a nice indentation to fussy cut the oval between the two large leaves. The little flowers in the corner are the top flowers of the image stamped a second time, fussy cut, and mounted on greenery from The Bird Builder Punch. The butterfly is from the hostess Best Thoughts set. It is stamped on vellum and then placed upside down on the Stampin’ Pierce Mat and rubbed with the Stylus to give a nice white color.
When you pull on the ribbon – Voila!
The inside words come from the Best Thoughts hostess set which has the butterfly we used on the front:
Retiring Products: The Bird Builder Punch (117191), The Best Thoughts hostess set (139234), The Curvy Corner Trio Punch (139683) that made both the corner and the ribbon slider hole, and It’s My Party Designer Series Paper Stack (140552) from which I pulled the green striped paper. You will see more of this paper in another card. The Paper Stack has 48 sheets with 4 each of 12 double-sided 12X12 designs.
The masculine version of the Surprise Pull Out card uses Butterfly Basics, In The Meadow and Guy Greetings stamp sets, all of which carryover to the new catalog- Yay! Once again it uses the “Think outside the Framelit” technique to stamp an image, cut out a little of the image and then slip the framelit under the cutout part and run through the Big Shot.
I will miss the Blackberry Bliss cardstock which is part of the retiring In Colors (see page 137).
Our technique sheet for club was the Mirror Image technique:
We mirrored the little yorky from the Hey Girl stamp set (#138706) which is retiring. I used the retiring Oval Scallop punch(#119856) to create the clouds. Join my team, or the bimonthly club, and you will make the technique sheets at our meetings. If you live far away or can’t make the meetings, I will mail you a completed technique sheet.
The Stamp A Stack held at the Elizabeth library was another fun time of stamping! Here is the first card:
The Sunburst Sayings stamp set and Sunburst Thinlits Die used on this card are currently bundled for a 15% discount. See page 25 of the Occasions catalog. Though both products are in the new catalog, there is no longer a bundle. Blackberry Bliss and Hello Honey are used together on this card and both are retiring colors in only three days. See page 137 for all the In Color retiring products.
The second card: (Stampers make six cards- two each of three designs for $20)
What could be better than Bermuda Bay with a black accent?! The flower is from the Butterfly Basics stamp set which is carried over to the new catalog, however the Honeycomb Embossing Folder (#129378) is retiring, as well as the Honeycomb Hello stamp set (#134075) which has the little “hello” and a cute little bumble bee that a couple of my stampers added to their card front. The Curvy Corner Trio punch is retiring (#139683) and the Candy Brads (page 161) are being replaced with shaped enamel dots.
The third card demonstrates the Drapery Fold Technique, modified from that found on Laura’s Stamp Pad:
Once again I have used the retiring It’s My Party Designer Series Paper Stack (#140552). Sadly, all the Scallop Circle Punches are retiring (see page 165). I used the 1 3/4″ scallop circle punch and punched the white inside layer of the card so that the main card stock showed. I then stamped “make a wish” in Basic Black with the Party Wishes retiring stamp set (#140651). The ‘It’s My Party’ enamel dots (#140554) are retiring as well. The Happy Birthday is from the Rose Wonder stamp set (#140697) and thankfully it is NOT retiring. If you wanted a stamp set with words that fit many different occasions, this set is a must have. See page 18 of the Occasions catalog. The more masculine version of this card:
The balloons are from the Balloon Bouquet punch (#140609) and will still be available in the next catalog but the mini balloon punch in the Party Punch Pack (#140608) on page 4 of the Occasions catalog is retiring. The punch pack and the Party Wishes stamp set used for the “make a wish” shown above is available as a bundle at a 15% discount in a wood mount (#141073) or clear mount (#141071).
The drapery fold starts with a piece of Designer Series Paper (DSP) that is 4″ X 11 1/2″ so you can get three cuts out of a 12X12. Be careful if your design is one that shouldn’t be upside down. (Yes, I learned that the hard way!)
Score your DSP on the long 11 1/2″ side at: 3″, 4″ , 6″ , 7″ , 9″ , and 10″ .
Turn the paper to the short 4″ side closest to the 10″ score line and make a small score mark or pencil mark at 1″.
Use your cutter to cut diagonally from the 1″ mark to the bottom of the 3″ score line. Make a z fold. I trimmed the right side of the top of the folded DSP to 5 3/8″ so I could have a border around each edge.
I love the way the drapery fold shows both sides of our pretty Designer Series Paper. There are many different fold sizes you can make. I would love to see one you have made!
My next event is the catalog launch on June 18 from 10:00 – 2:00, open house style. I will have catalogs, and you can make new In Color sheets, a bookmark for the catalog and a quick make and take with a new product. Retired product will be available for purchase.
