Lisa Christensen September Shoebox Event

(If you are opening this post in a mobile device, be sure and click a second time on the header to go to the blog where the pictures are shown correctly.)

It is almost time for the November Shoebox Event so I had better get the September and October events journaled.  Lisa Christensen was our hostess and we made two cards.  She had numerous stamp sets from which we could choose our greetings, so I made one card a wedding card and one card a birthday card.  Take a look:

.

.

Isn’t that a beautiful card?!    The colors Lisa chose and the variety of dies she used to make a bouquet are just wonderful!  I think it is the Big Blossoms Dies from Scrapbook.com.

.  You should take a notebook to the scrapbook events so you can write down the products they use.

Should a – would a – could -a!

Lisa’s second card used Designer Series Paper to make a beautiful statement with strips on a panel to bring in the base color.

I can’t even guess the products used on this card but the idea is awesome!

Thank you for stopping by.

SAL,  Send A Lot of handmade greetings

Karen

Riddle of the day:

Question: Forward I am heavy, but backward I am not. What am I?

Answer:  Ton.

Ninja Turtle Birthday Cards & Gift Card Holder

Hello Stamping Friends,

Would you like to look at December’s Mystery card?

  What happened to January?

Ahh, January!  Snowstorms caused us to cancel club twice but finally we had club on the last day of January. Obviously no days left for a Zoom meeting with a mystery card.

January 4th was my daughter Amber’s birthday and the 9th was Emmitt’s 4th birthday so we celebrated with a Ninja Turtle party!  Paul had to be both grandpa and dad since dad was in Seattle.

.

Of course, he had to have a Ninja turtle card:

.

The little dog looks just like Ruger don’t you think?!  I used the ‘Back on Your Feet’ stamp set and the ‘Ready For Christmas’ stamp set and ‘Christmas Staircase’ dies.   I cut the curves with the ‘Polar Bear Dies’ and punched out a balloon.  The number ‘4’ was die cut with the ‘Playful Alphabet’ die.  I hand drew the Ninja mask!

Jaxson’s birthday was just two weeks earlier so he received a Ninja in red – I think that is Michaelangelo and the blue is Donatello.

.

Then January 7th our fifth grandbaby decided to come early and was born to Stacia and Jonathan. Emma became a big sister!  Josephine Jasmine Whitehead entered the world weighing 5 lbs 13 oz.  She was named after Paul’s mom!  She was born one day before her daddy’s birthday on the 8th!  Very special in so many ways!

. .

And if that wasn’t enough we had sold the motorhome after Christmas and in January Paul found a new truck and camper to make our travels better!  It is an Arctic Fox 811. They sure make them better than the two cab over campers we owned in the past and it is a four season so we can take it to Steamboat to see the family!

Wow, that was quite the month! Now can we see the mystery card?

Mystery Card Challenge #18 printable pdf file- click on the blue

I needed several cards so I changed the front word die cuts to suit the situation:

    .

I used a Crumb Cake base with a layer of Evening Evergreen, the gorgeous Ever Eden DSP-Designer Series Paper, another layer of Evening Evergreen with a Soft Succulent layer and then the Basic White for the art work.  The middle card has an extra layer of the Ever Eden cotton paper that is very like tissue and made a nice background with a bit of a different texture.  The gold is from our laser cut gold DSP and layered on top of stamped greenery and cut out greenery from the Sparkle of the Season bundle.   Happy New Year and Happy Day are from the Word Wishes dies.  Happy Birthday is the retired Birthday die.

The front is a flap that opens and has a pocket for a gift card.  The greeting is from the ‘Celebrating You’ set in the mini catalog.

Jo Brooks participated and made a birthday card with lots of cool balloons!!

.

Joy Meadows also made a birthday card with a fun look of flowers and no need for a separate pocket!

Sharon Fincham made the card going vertically.

.

Don’t you just love those little bugs!!   Thank you ladies for participating!

SAL,  Share A Love

Karen

Hand Drawn Blooms and Prized Peony

Hello Stamping Friends,

Today’s Facebook Live event was successful!!  For those of you who have done this for a long time I’m sure you are shaking your head but it was my third Facebook Live and the second one crashed and had to be abandoned.  So two successful events feels rather nice!

Club members received two card kits for this month’s club and we joined together with a Facebook Live followed by a Zoom meeting.  We created an Easel card with the Hand Drawn Blooms bundle and a Tri-Fold card with the Prized Peony bundle.

What you still need is the specific recipe for each card.

Easel Card with Rainbow Glimmer Paper:

Color #1, Daffodil Delight and Melon Mambo

Color #2, Granny Apple Green and Bermuda Bay

The Banner Blooms Die was used to cut the beautiful bouquet from the Rainbow Glimmer Paper.  Since the paper is multi colored the cards were different depending on where the cut was made.

Recipe:

  • Base:  4 1/4 X 11 scored at 5 1/2 and 2 3/4
  • Layer 1:  5 3/8 X 4 1/8  Make 2 and Corner Round the top of one
  • Layer 2:  Shimmer White,  4 X 5 1/4 , Corner Round the top
  • Easel Holder:  Shimmer White, 4 X 1
  • Scrap of Shimmer White on which to stamp the words to put on the banner 3 X 1 1/2
  • Rainbow Glimmer Paper:  6 X 4, cut one bouquet and one butterfly
  • Twine: 10″
  • Jewels to embellish: 3
  • Ink:  Bermuda Bay or Melon Mambo
  • Stamp Set:  Hand-Drawn Blooms
  • Die Set:  Banner Blooms

Gosh, you didn’t post for a month and now you made a video! When do I get to be in the video?

Patience, Sal, I have been working with an animator and soon you will be joining the videos.

Prized Peony Tri-Fold Card:

I just received my mini catalog preorder and added a stamped image to my wedding card using the Little Treats Stamp set:

Isn’t that just the perfect addition?

Here is the original one I did in the Facebook Live Video:

Recipe:

  • Base:  Whisper White 12″ X 6″

To cut your tri-fold follow these step by step instructions:

  1. Place the base on the Stampin’ Up! Cutter the long way – (vertically) on 2″ mark- and cut from the 2″ to the 10″ mark on the cutter
  2. Move the base to the 4″ mark on cutter and cut from 2″ to 10″
  3. Turn the base the short way-(horizontal) and place it at the 2″ mark of the cutter and score from 0″ to 2″,  lift the scoring blade and move to the 4″ mark on the cutter and score from 4″ to 6″
  4. Move the base to the 4″ mark on cutter and score from 0″ to 6″- top to bottom
  5. Turn the base to the other side and place it at the 2″ mark of the cutter and score from 0″ to 2″, lift the scoring blade and move to the 4″ mark on the cutter and score from 4″ to 6″
  6. Move the base to the 4″ mark on cutter and score from 0″ to 6″- top to bottom

Front Base Layer:  Whisper White 5 1/8 X 3 5/8

Layer #1 all in Basic Gray:

  • (1) 5 X 3 1/2 for front base
  • (2) 5 7/8 X 1 7/8
  • (3) 3 7/8 X 1 7/8
  • (5) 1 7/8 X 1 7/8

Layer #2 in Designer Series Paper (Note: two of the top layers are whisper white)

  • (1) 4 7/8 X 3 3/8  for front base
  • (2) 5 3/4 X 1 3/4
  • (2) 3 3/4 X 1 3/4
  • (4) 1 3/4 X 1 3/4

Whisper White – all three pieces are embossed at the bottom with the Peony Edge Die

  • (1) 2 1/4 X 4 1/4  Front Banner
  • (1) 3 3/4 X 1 3/4 for stamping greeting
  • (1) 1 3/4 X 1 3/4 for stamping peony

Envelope Punch Board – Whisper White Envelope Paper 8 1/4 X 8 1/4 with 3 3/8 score line starting point

Envelope Decor – Designer Series Paper 6 X 3 1/2, glue to flap and then fussy cut to fit

Ribbon – 1/4″ Gray Granite Shimmer Ribbon- 10″ for knot, 12″ for bow

Elegant Faceted Jems – 3

Peony (4) –  Petal Pink  8 1/2 X 3 , die cut the four parts, each piece slides into the next largest piece matching up the notches.  Use a bone folder to curl the edges and then sponge with Blushing Bride for a darker contrast.

Stamin (1) – Scrap of Daffodil Delight at least 1″ square

Leaves (3)- Garden Green large sections 2 X 3, die cut one of each size

Leaf accent (3)- Granny Apple Green 2 X 3, die cut one of each size

I used a glue dot to attach each piece at the notch and then added dimensionals in between the layers.

Here is the base with the gray granite layer and the DSP layers, the white part of the base is where you will glue the front base so it does not need a gray layer:

This shows the front base added and the die cutting at the bottom of each edge of the white pieces:

Obviously, you want to stamp the white pieces before you adhere.

I stamped the greeting in Basic Gray and then colored the back of the peony stamp with Stampin’ Write Markers – Petal Pink, Daffodil Delight, Garden Green and Granny Apple Green.

Note:  Do not use Stampin’ Blends – they will stain your stamp.

Prized Peony Suite Card

Here is a card I made using every single one of the Prized Peony Suite products for a thank you card.  I am casing Mary Deatherage of Stampsnlingers with this one:

Recipe:

  • Base:  Gray Granite  4 1/4 X 11  scored at 5 1/2
  • Front Base:  Gray Granite  4 1/4 X 5 1/2  Embossed with the Dainty Diamonds Embossing Folder; it might need shaved a hair on the edges if it stretches
  • Front Mat: Petal Pink  2 7/8 X 5 1/2
  • Cross Panel Mat:  Petal Pink  2 1/8 X 4 1/4
  • Inside Mat:  Petal Pink  4″ X 5 1/4″
  • Front Vertical Top:  Peony Garden Designer Series Paper (DSP) 2 3/4 X 5 1/2 colored with Stampin’ Blends Petal Pink and Granny Apple Green.  Don’t panic as you color the DSP flowers pink, as they look an ugly dark pink from the grey on the back of the DSP showing through.  Once it dries it is a pretty petal pink!
  • Front Horizontal Panel Top:  Peony Garden DSP  2 X 4 1/4
  • Inside Liner Top:  Whisper White  3 7/8 X 5 1/8
  • Sentiment:  Whisper White Scrap stamped with Hand Drawn Blooms and fussy cut
  • Ribbon – 1/4″ Gray Granite Shimmer Ribbon- 4″, glued underneath peony with glue dot
  • Elegant Faceted Jems – 3
  • Peony (4) –  Petal Pink  8 1/2 X 3 , die cut the four parts, each piece slides into the next largest piece matching up the notches.  Use a bone folder to curl the edges and then sponge with Blushing Bride for a darker contrast.
  • Stamin (1) – Scrap of Daffodil Delight at least 1″ square
  • Leaves (3)- Garden Green large sections 2 X 3, die cut one of each size
  • Leaf accent (3)- Granny Apple Green 2 X 3, die cut one of each size

There you have it folks, recipes, pictures, a video and everything you need to create some beautiful cards!

SAL,  Such A Lot (of pieces)

Wedding Wishes Card & Mother’s Day Box

Hello Stamping Friends,

It’s May in the Rockies!  I think we started the fountain a little too early.  No, that is not a real jack rabbit, but the garden statue sure shows up nicely in the snow!  The sun melted every flake the next day and the lawn loved the moisture so we are thankful!

Thank you to those of you who ordered in April with the hostess code!  Sharon did earn her Big Shot and if you missed her party with all the fun thank you gifts, I will be mailing you a thank you gift for your online order!

May’s hostess code is:  29SANZNQ   It is the last month for the Occasions Catalog and the Annual Catalog and many items are already sold out. You can go to the online store and click on Retiring items on the left side to view images of the retiring items.  The Clearance Rack has been stocked with other items as well so stop by there while you are visiting to see if anything is a must have!    Online Store

Use the hostess code and receive a gift from me if your order is under $150!  Order over $150 and you earn the hostess dollars!

Sharon’s party focused on the Floral Boutique Suite on pages 76-77 of the Annual Catalog.  The bundle is still available at 10% off and the Designer Series Paper (DSP) is still available, though inventory is low.  The Washi Tape and Baker’s Twine is sold out – so sorry.

For Sharon’s thank you gift I used the gift bag punch board and made a medium sized bag with the Floral Boutique DSP and then filled the bag with the Washi Tape and Baker’s Twine.

Sharon had recently purchased the Pansy Punch, #130698,  and the Flower Shop stamp set, #130942, so I made her a 3D flower using those products.  I will explain how to make a pansy punch flower later in this post.

For her thank you card, I used the Detailed Floral Thinlits Dies with the Floral Phrases stamp set.  The border stamp was a great way to enhance the greeting on the inside of the card:

Would you like to host a party?  I will plan something special for you as well!

Thank you card:

  • Base:  Thick Whisper White Card Stock 4 1/4″  X  11″  Scored at 5 1/2″
  • Top Layer:   Night of Navy 4″ X 5 1/4″  with thinlits positioned on each end and cut,  then each end cut with the border thinlit.

We made two projects at the party, a wedding card and a mother’s day box using the Window Box thinlits on page 43 of the Occasions catalog.  The bundle is still available and, though the Window Shopping Stamp set and Window Box Thinlits carry over to the new catalog, they won’t have the 10% discount.

The little blue flower on the top of the box is from the Flourish Thinlits set #141478.  It coordinates with the Flourishing Phrases stamp set which has greetings for many occasions.  Check out page 49 of the Annual Catalog. The 3D flower is made using the pansy punch.

3D Flower:

  • Using regular Whisper White card stock 2″ X 7″ punch four pansies
  • Sponge the edges with Night of Navy ink
  • Punch a hole in the center of each flower.  I used a business hole punch and punched about three times to make a nice hole
  • Using your bone folder curl the petals a bit for softer looking petals
  • The 5 petal pansy becomes the base, the first layer
  • Make a cut between two petals to the center hole and then glue one petal on top of the other; this is the second layer-4 petals
  • Cut out one petal, save it for the center, and glue one petal on top of another to make the third layer-3 petals
  • Cut out two petals, save them, and glue one petal on top of another to make the fourth layer – 2 petals
  • Roll the two petals you cut out- 1 petal
  • Roll the one petal to make a center
  • Place a glob of hot glue on the Silicone Craft Sheet #127853 and quickly layer your flowers, the glue should come up through the holes in the middle of the flowers. (Some crafters layered the flowers first then placed them on the hot glue.)

Wedding Wishes Card:

  • Detailed Floral Thinlits #141482
  • Floral Phrases Stamp Set #141767    (Can be bundled for a 10% discount through May 31)
  • Card Base:  Thick Whisper White #140272 cardstock  5 1/2″ X 8 1/2″  Scored at 4 1/4″
  • Night of Navy cardstock #100867 cut at 5 3/8″ X  4 3/16″  ( I call it 4 1/4″ (minus a hair))
  • Use the smaller thinlit and the border thinlit and cut the right hand side of the Night of Navy
  • Glue the cut piece to the card base flush to the left
  • Using just the border thinlit, cut the card base to match the Night of Navy top
  • Fussy cut along the fold line to make it a bit neater
  • Cut an outside 2 1/4″ circle with the circle framelits and a 2 3/4″ X 2 3/4″ piece of Night of Navy
  • Using a 2 1/4″ X 2 1/4″ piece of Whisper White stamp your greeting, then cut to make a 1 7/8″ circle with the Stitched Framelits specialty set #145372, the 2nd circle in from the center
  • Cut a piece of  the Floral Boutique Designer Series Paper at 4″ X 3 1/4″
  • Layer the circles and then center them on the DSP and attach
  • Wrap the DSP and circles tying a bow with 14″ Bakers Twine and then attach to the Night of Navy layer
  • As you trim the Bakers Twine save a little bit and separate the strands to make little antennae for the butterfly
  • Stamp a butterfly with the Papillion Potpourri stamp set #123759 and punch with the retiring Bitty Butterfly punch #129406
  • I put one glue dot on to attach the antennae and then another to attach to the card
  • The inside is the Standard Layers (click here) Night of Navy 5 1/4″  X  4″
  • Whisper White top layer of 5″ X 3 3/4″
  • Helpful Hint:  Mount all three of the stamps on one block to get them nicely squared and then stamp the inside greeting

Imagine the different Designer Series Papers we could use to make this a birthday or graduation or………

Mother’s Day Window Box:

  • Window Box Thinlits #142762
  • Flourish Thinlits #141478 – use Night of Navy 2″ X 3 1/2″ and cut one flourish
  • Pansy Punch #130698 – see instructions for flower above
  • Thick Whisper White cardstock 11 X 6  (cut two box bases) See prior post instructions by clicking here
  • Designer Series Paper; start with 3 3/4″ X 4″ and then cut just a top with Window Box Thinlit then cut off all the tabs; I had several to make so I used grid paper and made a template of just the top so I could quickly cut off the edges-store this template with your framelits for the future
  • Every other side, three of the six sides,  was made using #2 of the Stitched Shape square specialty framelits and a piece of DSP that was 2″ X 2″ (Note:  #2  means the second one from the center)
  • The other three sides used the # 2 Stitched Shape square and a 2″ X 2″ Night of Navy cardstock for the back border
  • The top of the Night of Navy used a 1 7/8″ X 1 7/8″ piece of Whisper White and the heart cutout from the Window Box Thinlits layered with the retired #2 Regular Square Framelits Die.  You layer both on the Whisper White and only need to cut once.  The magnetic platform really helps with this cut!
  • Before gluing all the pieces to the top of the lid, cut a 2″ piece of ribbon, fold it in half and glue it to the box lid.  I used the retiring 5/8″ Organza #114319
  • Cut a Delicate White Doilie # 141701 to fit the left edge of the top and attach your layers: the DSP, then Doilie, Flourish and finally the rose. I made an extra to store with the framelits for a template so future projects will take less time.
  • I didn’t want to clutter the top with a greeting so I used the 2 1/2″ circle punch to punch a circle, sponged the edges and added a greeting.  My Mother’s Day greeting comes from my stash of Paper Pumpkin stamp sets but the retiring Oh So Succulent stamp set on page 21 of the Occasions catalog #142992 and the That’s The Tag # 142755 retiring set on page 23 both have Mother’s Day greetings.

So now lets go find a beautiful piece of Navy satin and a lovely necklace, or perfume, or gift card to put in the box.  Then let’s make a graduation box with a graduation cap instead of a rose what do you think?

SAL,  Stamp A Lot this wonderful May month

Double Z Fold Box Card & Clearance Rack

Hello Stamping Friends,  (Click little SAL to go to the full blog if you are on your phone)

Salt001Stampin’ Up! just added lots and lots of goodies to the clearance rack.  They will be available while supplies last.  I will post screen shots at the end of this post to entice you!  If your order is $150 you earn hostess rewards; if it is under $150 use the hostess code FCZSQ336 and get a treat from me!

For now let me show you my version of a Double Z fold box card.  The standard double Z fold card base is cut and scored like this:

imag0535Do you see how the base is a Z fold one way and then the 1″ on the bottom is Z folded the other way.

Base card is 9 3/4″  X  4″   (This gives you the option of adhering the entire card to a base of 5 1/2″ X 4 1/4″)

Cuts:  Using your Stampin’ Trimmer, with the 4″ side on top, cut at 1″ starting at 3″ to 7 1/2″.  (I love how our Stampin’ Trimmer has the inches marked on the vertical bar to guide us.)   Turn to long side and score at 3″ down to the cut line and then score at 5 1/4″ all the way top to bottom.  Lastly, score at the 7 1/2″ from cut line down to bottom.  That is a standard Double Z fold.

I chose to do a Double Z fold “Box” card instead of having an open middle as shown above so I could add a middle box strip to put on a jar of flowers.  Our stamping friend, Terri, is getting married this month and her colors are gray and hot pink.  Congratulations Terri!

floral-flourish-wedding

Base Card:  9 3/4″  X  4″    Score at 3″ and 5 1/4″ all the way top to bottom. Basic Gray used here.

Bottom Strip:  9 3/4″ X 1″   Score at 5 1/4″ and 7 1/2″.  Basic Gray.

Box Strip:  4 1/4″  X  1″.  Score at 1″ and 3 1/4″.  Basic Gray.

Front Panel:  2 3/4″ X 3 3/4″  to glue on before the 1″ bottom strip is adhered.  Pop of Pink Designer Series Paper (DSP).

Back Panel:  4 1/4″ X 3 3/4″ to glue on before the 1″ bottom strip is adhered.  Pop of Pink DSP.

Bottom Strip DSP:  9 1/2″ X 3/4″  Score at 5 1/8″ and 7 3/8″.  Pop of Pink DSP.

Whisper White cardstock was used for all the embellishments with the bow on the heart stamped first in Melon Mambo then cut with the bow framelit in the Everyday Jars Framelit set .  I cut one full Flourish Thinlit for the front, and for the bouquet I used the top of another full Flourish thinlit for two of the flowers, one of the single Flourish thinlit flowers and one of the single stem bud Flourish thinlits.  I cut off a few of the extra buds that made it a bit too busy.

The jar is stamped twice from the Jar of Love stamp set and cut out with the shortest of the Eyeryday Jars Framelits.  I stamped the bow in Melon Mambo on one of the jars and then put sticky tape/glue dots on the top of the back of the jar to hold the flowers as I arranged them, being careful to not place a flower too far to the left where it would be crunched in the fold.  I attached the back jar to the front jar just at the top and slid the two over the middle gray box strip adhering both sides with Tombow glue.

The border comes from the Flourish Thinlits set.

The Heart and Congrats are from the Sunshine Wishes Thinlits.

I found it easy to adhere all the thinlits by putting a few drops of Tombow glue on our Silicone Craft Sheet and then using a toothpick to put glue on the thinlit.  The glue in the new Fine Tip Glue pen has a tendency to dry too fast for my slow speed.

floral-flourish-rose-wonderThe greeting comes from the Rose Wonder stamp set.  It should be stamped on the middle of the base before adding the embellishments.  I had to add a 3″ X 2 3/16″ panel with the greeting.  Design opportunity…..I could have used a different cardstock,  but you know how I like the monochromatic look.  (If you don’t get the card mailed in time for a wedding, you could easily add a panel that says Happy Birthday!)
