Sea Life Dies and Alcohol Ink on Vellum Technique

Hello Stamping Friends,

Hostess Code through September 15:  WKQ6CJ7R

Stock up on stamps before August 29 when prices go up!  Thanks for the reminder, Joy!

August club cards will be posted separately on this blog so the post is shorter, so check the next post for the Shaded Summer partial die cutting and shaded stamping card.

Before we go to the card let’s look at what is happening this month at Stampin’ Up!

We have a sneak peak of September Paper Pumpkin:

I prepay for a three month subscription to Paper Pumpkin and then activate it now for the September, October and November kits.  Even when one of the kits was Christmas tags, I made cards from the tags and had a nice addition to my Christmas cards. I don’t always use the treat boxes in the September kit but this kit will have instructions to turn the box into a wheelbarrow and we can put our pumpkins, apples and jack-o-lanterns in the wheelbarrow for a nice end table decoration.  Love it!  Click the image above to go to the Paper Pumpkin site or place an order for a prepaid subscription and then activate it whenever you choose. PS – Don’t add your credit card info when you have a prepaid plan, just enter the code they sent to your email.

And if you buy a 3 month subscription, you will get a free $50 Sale A Bration product.  Just saying……

Thanks, Sal, for throwing in that tidbit for getting the most for your dollars.  Sale A Bration runs through the end of September with the opportunity to buy $50 and get a level one product for free or buy $100 and get a level 2 product for free.  Here’s another look at the brochure:

Sea Life Dies With A Background Of Alcohol Ink On Vellum

This card and technique were inspired by Patty Bennett.

Here is a youtube video for you:

Recipe:

  • Base:  Just Jade, 4 1/4 X 11, scored at 5 1/2
  • Layer 1 (X2):  Misty Moonlight, 4 1/8 X 5 3/8
  • Layer 2 (X2):  Basic White, 4 X 5 1/4
  • Cardstock Vellum:  4 1/4 X 6 (This gives you 3/4″ to trim off after creating your background and 1/4 for trimming edges)
  • Double Back Adhesive Sheet: 41/4 X 6
  • Front Greeting: Basic White, 2 1/2 X 3/4 (I used a ‘Many Messages’ greeting)
  • Seahorse:  Blue Ombre Specialty Paper, 4X2
    • Note:  you will need to fussy cut two tiny sections on the belly and two sections around the fin since this is a partial die
  • Fish (X3): Blue Ombre Specialty Paper, 1 1/2 X 2
  • Seahorse Backing:  Be Dazzling SAB specialty paper, 4 X 2
    • Note:  Cover the back of your 4 X 2 Be Dazzling paper with scotch tape before die cutting
  • Seaweed:  Evening Evergreen Shimmer Vellum, 3 X 2 1/2
  • Easel (X2):  Misty Moonlight, 2 3/4 X 4, score at 2 3/8 and 1 5/8 and then cut with largest hippo die lining up the middle
  • Stampin’ Blends Alcohol Markers:  Lt Misty Moonlight, Lt Night of Navy, Dk Shaded Spruce, Dk Night of Navy
  • Ink:  Shaded Spruce
  • Tools:  Sea Life Dies, Messages Die, Hippo Die for Easel, Medium Tip Water Painter, Basic Black Journaler to dot the eyes
  • 91% Alcohol
  • Stamp Sets: Many Messages, Friends Are Like Seashells
  • Embellishments:  Three Basic Rhinestones

To make an alcohol ink on vellum background  – Prepare your surface.  I have a thin plastic quilting sheet I use.

  • Place a piece of copy paper underneath your vellum to soak up the excess that hits the edges of the vellum
  • Use a small container with a little alcohol in it for dipping your Water Painter
  • Have a paper towel next to the container to clean the Water Painter often so you don’t mix colors
  • Scribble on your vellum:

Place your copier paper under the vellum and dab alcohol one color at a time on the vellum.  Be generous with the alcohol and dab starting with all the Light Misty Moonlight scribbles, then Light Night of Navy, Dark Shaded Spruce and ending by dabbing all the Dark Night of Navy scribbles.  Use your breath or a straw to blow the alcohol so the colors blend.  Blow any excess build up off the edges so you don’t get a solid line at the sides.

Add additional scribbles if you have areas that are ‘blah’ and repeat.

When you are pleased with the result make it a “wow” by dipping your clean brush in the alcohol and then flick the brush on your finger, staying about 6″ over the vellum.  For small bubbles use just a little alcohol and stay a good distance over the vellum, for large bubbles use a little more alcohol in the brush and be closer to the vellum.  Scroll back up to my card front and you will see I have pretty large bubbles and then as the alcohol in the brush ran out the bubbles are smaller.

Let the vellum dry or use the lightest setting on the heat gun to dry the vellum.

Attach the vellum to the double back adhesive sheet, trim to 4″ X 6″ and then cut 3/4″ off the bottom for an inside strip. You should have a 4″ X 5 1/4″ to mount on the Basic White by removing the other side of the double back adhesive.  If you have trouble attaching it squarely to the Basic White just trim the edges after attaching as needed.

The rest of the construction is pretty basic.  I used Tombow liquid glue to attach the seahorse blue top to the Be Dazzling paper.  Before popping up the seahorse with dimensionals I attached the seaweed at the bottom in just a few places with Tombow glue  and then wrapped the seahorse around the left branch I left unattached.  The seahorse, fish and greeting are all popped up with dimensionals.  Don’t forget to dot little black eyes on the seahorse and fish with the Basic Black Journaler.  Since the fish are popped up, the eyes seem to follow you as you move the card – cute!

You’re making that up…..

I guess they’ll just have to make one to see if it’s true.

Remember to add your three rhinestones for more bubbles!

Lastly I added my new type of Easel to the back of the card using the largest of the Hippo Dies.  I cut two and glued them together for a little extra strength since the front was pretty heavy.

I would love to see what you make using this technique.  Post a picture in the comments section!

These dies are beautiful!  Jo Brooks used the large fish die and the ‘Whale Of A Time’ designer series paper to create this card:

Thank you, Jo!

And thank you for spending part of your day with me!  I hope we have been able to bring you a pinch of creativity to spice up your crafting life!

Sale A Bration Round 2 and a new Mini Catalog

Hello Stamping Friends,

Current hostess code:  WRQKTXMA for use if you are a club member or your order is under $150-(that’s where hostess dollars start.)

To launch the new Mini Catalog and the Sale A Bration brochure I held a Caravan party followed by a luncheon.  Thank you to those who were able to participate.

Caravan is a fun card and dice game that is quick to learn and participants change tables so everyone gets to see each other.  There was a prize for the lowest score, the most caravans and the highest score.  The prizes were from the new mini catalog; someone took home a stack of Designer Series Paper, someone won the Merry Melody Embossing folder and last place took home the Wonderful Snowflakes embellishments.  Such fun!!

Do we get to see some pictures?  I doubt the participants would mind.

I’m sure they wouldn’t mind, Sal, but I didn’t take a single picture – not even of the winners holding their prizes.  It was my intent but somehow the intent didn’t pan out!  Check out these prizes, though…..

Whimsy & Wonder Designer Series Paper in 12X12

Iridescent Foil Snowflakes 2 3/8 X 2 3/4

We didn’t have club or the normal zoom and mystery card event in July since we were traveling to Glacier National Park in Montana for an extended vacation.

Surely you have a picture or two of that!??

Dozens!!  Here are two of my favorites.

It is an amazing place!  We saw a few mountain sheep and two bears. We drove the ‘Going to the Sun’ road twice, the first time it was cloudy but we went again and it was a beautiful sunny day.  We took two boat tours – Mary’s Lake and Flathead Lake, a lake outside the park.  I wish we had had time to enjoy Apgar village on the west side, it looked very quaint and  interesting (with an artisan shop) but we were too tired to stop.  There were waterfalls everywhere and the Mary’s Lake boat tour stopped at a little cove and we walked up to a beautiful one:

The first time we drove the Going To The Sun road we went out of the park on the east side and then drove the road that went around the bottom of the park and back to the West entrance where we were camping.  That road has beautiful scenery as well and that is where we saw a bear cross the road.  Add that road to your travels if you are ever there.

Enough about parties and vacationing!  Let’s look at today’s excitement – the new mini catalog goes live and the second round of Sale A Bration starts today!   Click on the catalog images to view the catalogs by pdf – contact me to get a hard copy if you need one.

.

Aren’t you – like – really late in introducing the Mini Catalog.  It says it started in July.

It was supposed to start in July but shipping delays caused such a problem that the home office thought it would be best to launch the catalog one month later.  There are still three items that are delayed and can’t be ordered.

  1. 156326: GINGERBREAD & PEPPERMINT MEMORIES & MORE CARD PACK
  2. 156327: GINGERBREAD & PEPPERMINT MEMORIES & MORE CARDS & ENVELOPES
    • 156275: GINGERBREAD & PEPPERMINT SUITE COLLECTION (ENGLISH)
    • 156719: PAIN D’ÉPICES ET BONBON SUITE COLLECTION (FRENCH)
  3. 156458: BLACKBERRY BEAUTY 12″ X 12″ (30.5 X 30.5 CM) SPECIALTY DESIGNER SERIES PAPER
    • 156278: BLACKBERRY BEAUTY SUITE COLLECTION (ENGLISH)
    • 156725: AUTOUR DES MÛRES SUITE COLLECTION (FRENCH)

I will keep you posted on when those are available.

In the meantime, grab a cuppa something and sit back to enjoy these videos showcasing the suites in the new mini and a close up view of the Sale A Bration offerings!

What about the new people who don’t even know what Sale A Bration is?!

You are so right, Sal!  I jumped right in without explaining our favorite time of the Stampin’ Up! year –Sale A Bration!   In the past Sale A Bration was held for three months from January to March but this year Stampin’ Up! changed the program to be two months, twice a year- the first in January and February and now the second round in August and September.  During Sale A Bration (SAB) you earn free level 1 products with each $50 purchase, and free level 2 products with each $100 purchase.  If you host a party with $300 in sales you earn a free stamp set and if you join during Sale A Bration you get the standard $125 of products for $99 (with free shipping) and you get to choose a bundle of products free!  I will leave the french sets in the images for those of you who might want to send a card to your french speaking friends!

.

During this round of Sale-A-Bration, some products will only be available while supplies last. This means that once they’re gone, they’re gone for good! The Sale-A-Bration products with limited supply include:

  • 156629 Be Dazzling 6″ x 6″ (15.2 x 15.2 cm) Specialty Paper
  • 156600 Sheep Dies
  • 156618 Summer Shadows Dies

All other Sale-A-Bration products will be available throughout the promotion. High demand can send these products into backorder and delay shipping, but the supply will not run out; all orders placed will be honored except for those three products.

I would love to have you on my team of Carin’ Crafters!  Contact me or click HERE for details.

Our next club event is August 10th at 9:30, 1:30 and 6:30.  The 9:30 is full but I have openings at 1:30 and 6:30.   The morning and afternoon classes meet together at 11:30 with a potluck.  Join us as a guest for $5 or a $25 order; however I need RSVPs by noon tomorrow.  If this sounds like fun contact me to join or gather some of your friends for a get together at your house and they may want to start a club.

I think I have covered everything!  Let’s grab those catalogs and a shopping list!

Catalog Launch Extraordinaire

Hello Stamping Friends,

May 4th marked the debut of our new Annual Catalog!  It will run through May 2 of 2022.

Click on the catalog image here in this blog post for a pdf of the catalog.  The pdf is also posted in the ‘Catalog’ tab on the blog so you can view the pdf anytime anywhere with a mobile device or computer.

In celebration I held the annual catalog launch with lots of goodies for the attendees.

They each received a catalog enjoyment kit – commonly called catalog survival kit, but that sounds like it is painful so I called it a catalog enjoyment kit!

Just playing with words again!  You love doing that!

Obviously, Sal, that’s why I love blogging!

.

Catalog Enjoyment Kit pdf

(If you use this file in another year I suggest changing the green heading colors. I was trying to get Soft Succulent on Evening Evergreen but it was a bit hard to read.)

I found the perfect pouch at Walmart for the catalog and the ‘enjoyment’ kit and taped the above instructions on the outside.  The pouch is the perfect size for the catalogs and it is plastic so it will protect the contents.

I couldn’t find the right size of clear envelope for the goodies so I used a page protector, cutting off the binder holes and wrapping the excess around the back.  The wish list is a supply item available to demonstrators that is a pack of three wish lists.  I used one page from each of the lists.  I also added a set of catalog tabs from the supply items available to demonstrators.

There are lots of perks to being a demonstrator.  Come talk to me!

I cut a piece of cardstock and used glue dots to attach all the goodies.  The pen is from a pack of clear pens (Pentel RSVP brand); a small piece of the new hostess Pattern Party Designer Series Paper with hearts was rolled up and inserted in the pen.  I even found emoji bandaids for a cute little smile!  They do make individually wrapped lifesavers I found out, and of course Ghirardelli chocolates are a must as they are a tradition at my events.

Not to be rude, but why are you detailing all this?

Well, Sal, the joy of Stampin’ Up! demonstrators is that we CASE things – ‘copy and share everything’, and I have copied many many ideas from other demonstrators so it is only right that I provide ideas for my downline and other demonstrators that might be interested in casing what I have done.  Some of my customers might even become demonstrators building a business and need ideas like this.

There are times I think that I am just using my blog as a digital scrapbook for myself and then I realize I haven’t left comments on the blogs that I follow, so perhaps there are those who do use the ideas even though, like me, they never leave comments.

I see, so what else did you do at the catalog launch?

I had a raffle bag, a crossword puzzle scavenger hunt, a make and take card with the new In Colors and the traditional bookmark using the new In Colors and an In Color swatch sheet.

Raffle Bag

The raffle bag included magnets, a shopping bag, a notebook and the bag was a Stampin’ Up! lunch bag.  These are all supplies available to demonstrators.  The punch is the new ‘Elegant Tag’ punch!

To enter they could complete the crossword puzzle, place an order and receive one ticket for each $10 of merchandise purchased, or purchase a ticket directly for $2.50.

Raffle Ticket printable pdf

Who won the bag of goodies?

I will draw on Tuesday the 25th at our Zoom meeting!

Take a look at the new In Colors they are so lovely!  I loved them all this year and had to have all the inks and the ribbons and the markers and the blends and the paper – oh my!  I usually just choose one or two to highlight at the launch but not this year!

This is the bookmark we made using the In Color DSP for little samples on the front.  For the back we colored one of the sheets of the black and white Pattern Party Designer Series Paper available to hostesses.  We colored the top with blends and the bottom with markers so they could see the difference and get familiar with the colors. (and fall in love with them!)

Bookmark 2021-2022 Catalog printable pdf file

We did a make ‘n take using the Color and Contour bundle in the new catalog.  They chose their color.

In the Catalog section of the demonstrator web site is a test to see which color you are.  I am Fresh Freesia according to the test.  What do you think?  Another fun demonstrator perk!

.

Recipe for Make ‘n Take

  • Base:  Thick Basic White, 5 1/2 X 8 1/2, Scored at 4 1/4
  • In Color Layer:  Fresh Freesia, 5 1/2 X 4 1/4, die cut with largest Scalloped Contour die
  • Top Layer:  Basic White, 3 1/2 X 4 3/4, die cut with 2nd largest Scalloped Contour die
  • Ribbon: 8″ of Fresh Freesia 3/8″ Open Weave Ribbon
  • Embellish with three matching In Color Jewels

Stamp the flower from the Color and Contour stamp set in Evening Evergreen then do the second stamp in the Fresh Freesia.  We call this two step stamping – no coloring!   The ‘Thank You’ greeting is from the Pansy Patch stamp set in the new catalog.  Wait until you see what we can do with that pansy set and the ….

Whoa there…..don’t get ahead of yourself!

You are right!  That is for the next post.

Two important announcements from the home office:’

If you hold a qualifying party between now and June 14, you can earn more hostess dollars!

And if you join my team of Carin’ Crafters by May 31 you get $30 more product in your starter kit for the same $99.

Text or call me at 303-815-0838 or email me at stampalosopher@gmail.com.  I would love to show you all the benefits of being a demonstrator.  There is a tab at the top of the blog to link you to Stampin’ Up! with all the instructions to join.

If you don’t have a demonstrator I would be honored to ‘bring a pinch of creativity to spice up your crafting world’!

From what catalogs can I still order?

Good question, Sal.  We have lots of options for tomorrow’s free shipping.  I have linked them up here:

-The Jan – June Mini catalog has oodles of awesome products available until June 30

-The Annual Catalog is valid through May 3.  Though we don’t know yet what stamp sets are retiring, we do know all the In Colors for 2019-2021 are retiring and all their matching products- ink, reinkers, cardstock, and embellishments so you may want to get these retiring products tomorrow with free shipping.  These colors retire:

  • Rococo Rose
  • Terracotta Tile
  • Pretty Peacock
  • Seaside Spray
  • Purple Posy

Stampin’ Up! usually retires all the designer series paper  (DSP) at the end of each catalog.

-The Beginner Brochure is valid through May 3.

-The Hey Chick and Hey Birthday Chick specials are valid through June 30.

-The Butterfly Bouquet special is available through May 3, after which the stamps and dies will be available in the new Annual Catalog but the Butterfly Bijou designer series paper (DSP) and the Natural Touch Specialty DSP will be gone forever. The dies cut out beautiful butterflies from the Butterfly Bijou DSP.

You should post the cards you made at your stamp a stack with those butterflies cut out from the DSP.

Right-O!  Stay tuned for the next post!

  • And there is also the Clearance Rack with a few items still available.

Check them all out and order with free shipping starting at one minute after midnight tonight.  I am going to have my order ready and waiting so I can just hit the submit button.

Creativity hits when you least expect it – look at me!!

Yep!  So you’ll never leave your catalog behind if you have Stampalosopher on your phone. You do have us bookmarked don’t you?

Click on each of the following screen shots to see a Youtube intro to the new product suites:

I like the little cups of cocoa best!

Me too, Sal, and I ordered enough to do neighbor gifts and coworker gifts for my husbands crew!  I will fill them with the mini chocolate pretzels that I make:

  • Square pretzels
  • Hugs candies (one package has about 75 pieces)
  • M&Ms

Preheat oven to 200*.  Place parchment paper on a cookie sheet and then carefully line up your square pretzels on the pan. (Just eat the broken ones; you need the whole ones.) Place one hug candy on each pretzel and place in the oven for 2-5 minutes.  Time varies depending on the temperature of your candy; if it was frozen it will take longer; if it has been setting out it will take less time.  Watch for the tip to start melting down.  Remove and promptly put an M&M in the center of each hug.  Place in the refrigerator to cool.  Here is a picture of some I made in Thanksgiving colors and mixed with a batch of Rice Krispie treats for neighbor gifts.

Contact me if you need a catalog – the annual or the mini.  If the catalog got thrown out with the junk mail I will get you another.  email:  stampalosopher@gmail.com or text 303-815-0838.

I need orders by tomorrow if anyone would like card kits for the August 11 Facebook Live.  Club Members receive them automatically.  We will make two cards for club and two extra projects to celebrate products from the new catalog.  Kits are $10.

These are the products I will be using on August 11th.  The kits won’t have stamped images but I will give you die cuts that you can stamp with your own Christmas greeting.  You do have a stash don’t you?

We will play with decorating the envelopes:

And make cards with fun cutout borders:

And make a little gift box:  (I have seen five different ways to make this little box)

Mark your calendar for August 11 at 9:30 and join us for a Facebook Live.

The New Annual Catalog Premiers

Hello Stamping Friends,

(Remember to click on the heading to go to the full blog–videos I post work better there!)

Isn’t it beautiful?!!   The photography is fabulous and when you see some of the DSP – designer series paper – made from live photos you will be amazed!

Ordering began today at noon!  A BIG thank you to those who have already jumped to the task of ordering before anything sells out.   My task was to get catalogs into everyone’s hands.  If you would like one please contact me.  Text: 303-815-0838

We hope to see the new cutting machine by Christmas if all goes well!

I talked to Santa and he knows it is on your list.

Thanks, Sal!

My catalog launch this year is a Facebook Live Event happening twice:

  • Tuesday morning, June 9th, 9:30 AM
  • Saturday morning, June 13th, 9:30 AM

This is the link to my Facebook business page.  If you would like a kit with the projects we will be doing give me a shout out!  The kit is $5 and you will make a card, a bookmark and a color sheet with the new In Colors.  There will be a catalog scavenger hunt with prizes!

What’s your favorite in the catalog?

That is so hard but I think it “might” be the Peony Garden Suite on page 82. Here’s a video:

Maybe it is just because I have been looking for a peony bush for my yard and they sell out so quick that I haven’t found one.

Better hurry before this sells out!

But then there is the Bird Bundle on page 120 and you know how I love birds!

No-really?  I couldn’t guess with all the bird pictures and figurines you have everywhere.

Sarcasm doesn’t look good on you, Sal.

Let’s go away and let our stamping friends enjoy the catalog.

SAL,  Sending A Launch memo

I wasn’t being original.  Paper Pumpkin has a special kit this month and they used that pun to describe it:

This month’s kit makes 20 treat bags and 10 mini cards.  Order two and you will have enough for everyone in your student’s classroom plus all the neighbors or your coworkers!  The stamp in the set coordinates with the heart punches so you could get even more use of the Paper Pumpkin supplies by purchasing the heart punches from the Mini Catalog, page 10.

Don’t forget to sign up for Paper Pumpkin by January 10th, just click on the above image.

Stay tuned for more videos in future posts.
